Chine Walking????
Chine Walking????
I have a chine walking problem when I hit @70mph. I have a manual jackplate. I am running a 250 Verado on a Triton TR21X. What is the best way to play with the jackplate?? Should I go up or down, in what increments, and how is the best way to mark my adjustments? Can this be easily done while the boat is in the water? Are there any other suggestions other than the jackplate?
Thanks!!
Thanks!!

Chine walk
If you're hitting 70mph when it starts to walk then the setup sounds like it is right there.
All tritons walk at those speeds, my trx20 starts at around 68mph when I'm at full trim, ya just have to learn to drive through it by playing with the wheel, it takes a little practice but it becomes second nature.
If you need more detailed help let me know.

In my limited experiance
Tritons are squirly boats. My hats off to Triton owners because you have to DRIVE those boats. I'm spolied in my skeeter, but then again Tritons probably ride the rough water better. I'm lazy though, so I'll stay with the Skeeter, HA!

I have had the same problem in the high 60s. All you have to do is trim down just a little bit. Try it the next time you go out or just play around with that. It works fine with mine. All your boat is doing is trying to decide on what side of the bottom of the boat to be on, so if you trim down a hair it should solve it.

Buy a Ranger!
Like I did. They never go fast enough to chine walk!
Okay, I lied. My 482 will walk. But only if I don't pay attention.
Remember that setup is critical. Heavy stuff in the back, light stuff in the front of the boat. Remember to balance fuel loads as well; draw from the starboard side first if you're fishing alone.
After you get over the shock/surprise when chinewalking starts, as the fellows who've posted before have said, you just gotta drive through it. Drive with a very slight left turn dialed in. If that doesn't work, if it starts, don't freak. Work the steering wheel with very short but quick and positive movements, back and forth, IN THE DIRECTION OF EACH TILT.
Do all that, and she'll settle right down. A lot quicker than your heartbeat, in fact.

Rod has THE slowest Champion on the water. Challenge him for a pink and find out (psst Rod, I get 40% for setting you up)

Steering
Be sure to check your hyd steering for play in it. Not just air, but look for play in it while trying to push the motor with your hands.
Mine was walking due to a loose plastic nut on the steering. The second time it started getting shaky, it was loose bolts on the jackplate.
