STEEL PRICES GOING UP, WAY UP

Post by XMAN »

i work at a local steel plant and we are going to get our incoming steel priced about 50% higher in the next six months--it could be 100%--chinas cost from brazil went up 20% to 70% recently--get ready for anything steel related in fishing--hooks, sinkers, line guides, knives, reel seats, boating hardware, trailers, wheels and rims, and the list goes on--also just talked to a guy who has a machine business and deals with 7 steel brokers, they told him his price is going up 100%--he said he cant pass on the cost increase and will probably go out of business----ahhhhh nothin like a float tube as long as rubber or vinyl dont go up too bad---------xman

Tell me about it!! I own Jay's Mobile Welding and Fabricating-the steel prices are changing so fast, when we bid jobs now the bids are only good for one week. Last week I bid a job,got approval and steel prices were up 22% from the beginning of the week. Losing more money than making seems like.Crazy huh??

I just started my own Metal Shop this Year, Sparks metal works. Were putting a bid together for a job in Tiburon right now and same thing. We had to tell the customer get on it!

China, Japan and Korea signed contracts this Feb for 65% price increase for iron ore with a large Brazilian miner. Negotiations are ongoing between the Chinese and the Australian miners who are demanding a premium above the 65% because they are closer and so it costs less to ship the ore to China than from Brazil and South America. Spot prices for iron ore (outside the contracted rates) are already up 100%. This is the third year of double digit increase for Iron ore.
