Hooking batteries up a 24 volt motor

Post by Marone »

I was lucky enough to be given a motor from a friends ,girlfriend's father. FOR FREE!! No more running out of batteries on the delta, no more lack of power and not being able to go against the wind!

A sweet *** 80 lb thrust Maxxum Pro with a built in transducer.

I mounted it yesterday. Now all I need to do is hook up the batteries. I've seen schematic diagrams on here before. I think Gator posted those up.

Any help or info on doing this?

I know you can hook 2 up Pos to Neg, but I don't know if there's a sequence you should follow to not blow up. Does anyone make a 24 V battery?

You may have to re cable the power cable running from the TM to the back depending on gauge. I would defiantly speak to Sunny's or another trolling motor person prior to wiring this up.

What Hawghunter said. Make sure you have adequate cable size to handle the added amperage of the 24V system. After that it's pretty simple. Connect the positive cable from the TM to the #1 battery connection. Conncect a short jumper cable of adequate size from the #1 batt negative to the #2 batt positive. Then connect the TM negative cable to the #2 negative. Always make the last negative connection the final step.

May your TM live long and prosper. (Trying to do the Vulcan finger thing, but it ain't happening.)

Don't forget to upgrade your breaker or fuse/fuse holder as well!

Take two 12 volt batteries; connect the positive post of one battery to the negative post of the other battery with a jumper cable. Connect the negative trolling motor cable to the remaining negative battery post. Connect the positive trolling motor cable to the remaining positive battery post.

I recommend the use of an inline fuse or circuit breaker. Use the same or larger gauge wire that you motor has connected to the pedal.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the help guys, and BTW, the person who was so gracious to supply the motor was Bill Spence. May he win his next tournament and catch the BIG FISH of the year.

Thanks Bill! The BassTurdz owe you one!
