delta help

Post by redneck078 »

Ive been to the delta about 4 times fishing for bass and I havent been finding numbers or size. ive been to a few places and just havent seemed to find them. Ive fished little franks, north side of franks, sycamore slough, and docks east a bit from russos. I realize I havent scratched the surface of areas in the delta so I am lookin for some help. Anyone have any ideas where I should look? Not askin for secret spots but I would like some ideas of what sloughs to check out. I have heard alot about places like sherman and mildred but I havent been there. Are these any good or are they hit pretty hard by tournaments? Also when I read reports such as fish sniffer where would the line be crossed between west and east delta. Reports seem to say east is doin alot better. I usually launch at russos or sometimes B&W depending on what areas I want to check out but im open to other choices also. Thanks a bunch!

Good luck getting any info right now. Stren Series is next week and alot of people dont want to give anything. I would say shermann doesnt get the pressure of franks or mildred. There are fish in all three of these places. Probably the best bet is to pick an area, stay there, and learn it well. Fish different parts of the same area to find the sweet spots. Also fish it on different tides to see when they are feeding most. Hope this helps.

hmmmmm, simple answer: there's big fish all over the Delta. I've bagged DD's this year north, south, east, west and central. Don't worry so much about finding "better" areas cuz there's giants where yer at. Spend your time focusing on learning an area rather than running around too much,, the delta is soooo huge it'll just confuse you more...... break things down: flooded islands/lakes; dead end sloughs/marina's; low flow sloughs (ie: woodward, fishermans, railroad) where there's main channels at either end; and main channels / current... figure out how to fish each type of area at different phases of the tide. Once you get comfortable with your area of choice (this can take years) you can expand yer patterns to other similar areas throughout the system...... and then you can really start putting it all together.

When in doubt, if you launch at Russo's and never travel more than 15 minutes in any direction you'll be around plenty of giants.

Because the Delta is so huge,, the fish in different areas can be a month or more apart in term of their seasonal patterns... seasoned guys know some areas at certain times of the year are definetely better than others..... it's gonna take time to figure it all out, there's no way around it.

I'd strongly recommend you book a trip w Cooch, Bobby B, Rich, or any of the other Delta guides.... Those guys can definately get you started off in the right direction..

Bite is CRAZY out there right now ! -- Had a 40+ fish day alone and with My Bro's later today.

No big Momma's for me - but had one that was #7 and ready to squirt at any time ! ~~ I could not get her back in the water fast enoufgh - cause she looked like my wife when the water broke with both son's .... and 3 minuets later there is a kid, an embilicle coard and an after~birth in your hands at the same time ~!!

Search out and book a guide for a day on the water -- not only will you learn what is happening then -- They will show/tell you what all is happening in every season for the fish. -- Just bring a pad/pen ... ALOT QUESTIONS !! .. and a mic and recorder to remember everything that you forgot already . :D
You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

Just fork over tha cash on a zillion guide trips. Its worth every penny and will kill the learning curve it takes out there. Trust me. I learned the hard way and when I got a guide trip my eyes opened and a lot more made sense to a stupid lake rat. Cooch Bobby and Rich are all very knowledgeable and lets not forget Randy as well! If you insist on learning yourself stay in one area and grind hard as hell and see what happens. Remember the fish are always moving somewhat so things will continue to change throughout the day with the tide. Good luck out there!
