I use 1/8 oz. heads 99% of the time, with 6 pound p-line flouroclear line.

I'm throwing them on a drop shot rod and spinning reel.

Robo worms are my choice 4 - 4 1/2 straight tail I use a lot of MMIII's (That color just catches fish every where!)

Unlike so many I don't use the traditional darthead, I use the 1/8 oz. Zipper head it has a wide gap gamikatsu hook and I rig it texas style so I'm fishing while others are getting hung up in the rocks etc.

You may hook more fish rigged open hook on a traditional head but they won't be the better fish your looking for, and you will lose more gear.

The darthead will become your "save your bacon" option when it gets really tuff out there.
You will just have to experiment with how you fish it - drag, hop, shake or nothing at all.

Have Fun!

I primarily toss a 1/16 or a 1/8oz head depending on what depth I'm fishing at. the spiral effect you get with the 1/16oz head is important imo..looks like a dying baitfish on its way down to the bottom. roboworm and pro worms both make a sweet worm for d-heading and don't get crazy with the color selection of yer worms ya dont need them aLL..keep it simple baitfish and craws bright colors in low light and more of a natural color selection when the sun is up. 4-8 lb fluorocarbon

My go to weight for darter is 1/8th oz and I will scale down or up from there.

I really like the Pro-Worm's paddle tail in Hologram Shad and their version of Aaron's magic. Reaction Inovations Flirt and Robo Worms Strait Tail.

I typically like this bait when fish are suspended, I meter fish throw the dart head and feel for weight. If it gets to the bottom its shake shake shake with lifts and drops back to the boat.

I use the lightest weight conditions allow...usually 1/16 or 1/8th. I like to use Robos and Magic worms in 6" for better fish, but my favorites are baby brush hogs and 5" single tail grubs. These two baits just flat catch'em!

This is one of my "go to" baits (in Folsom)
3/16 Gami 4 1/2 curly tail roboworm, 4 1/2 fat robo or 6 and 7" fat for bigger fish. I use 6# test fluoro a 7 ' shimano ML and a quantum spinning reel that they don't make any more (5.8-1)
drag it and bump it around rocks.
There was a great article written by Scott Shambre on his FBS site, but the site is gone.
Good luck, have fun and catch fish.

1/16 or a 1/8oz works best for me. 1/16 gives the bait a real look. Cast out and let it sink. Twitch it like its swimin. I wont go into worms because the guy that told me a swore I would never tell, lol. But whenever I NEED to catch a fish I use this setup. Its never let me down!

Yes Sir.. :D
most of the bites occur when the bait is falling, so when you lift the rod if you feel some weight just reel down and lift your rod tip while reeling. With the exposed hook you will stick most of those fish. I love to darthead... :P :P

I agree with Kap just you reel in fast when you get a bite instead of a big swinging hook set (like regular jigs). More like what works well for dropshotting. I also like to work the worm back really slow sometimes, like you are trying to sneak it back to the boat with out any fish seeing it (but they do).

1/16, 6lb Maxima, 4" or 6" straight tail worm, count it down to the level of life while shakeing the rod and then reel in, 6" tip movement, crank in as slow as you can and then even slower.
After a while you will know...... then reel set.

i would start dart heading your favorite finess plastic worm. it could even be aa favorite worm you drop shot or split shot, up to you.

in the beginning i would go with a little heavier line, maybe 8lb test you will be doing some dragging, swimming, it may not be as weedless as your similar texas rig.

usually i like to twitch, drag, hop or swim this rig, like a ripbait or anybait there is not wrong way to fish this thing.

start with the lightest dart head you can get away with and go from there.
