Boat tax?

Post by split172 »

Is there a boat tax when you buy a used boat in california? If so what %? Is there an annual luxury tax on the boat as well? Again, if so what %? Thanks for all the info, Rob.

Yes, yes, and yes. It all depends on what you pay for it(sales tax) then there is a luxury tax if you live in LA or Orange County(which I I think is 1% of the asessed value of the boat.) Just get ready to pay...the man will get you no matter what you do. :x

Yeah, and if you're a homeowner, they'll attach the assessment to your property tax. It comes as a separate bill though. Advantage of that is you can write it off at tax time since it's charged to your prop tax.

It's more serious than that!
