Starting to Feel Like Deja Vu All Over Again!

Post by tunaman »

First off, I'd like to give kudos to the folks putting together the Wounded Warrior Fishing Tournament and the Lake Elsinore Bass Club - they're doing an outstanding job as far as I can tell!

I'm starting to get a sinking feeling, however, regarding the hoops and hurdles that they are having to go through with the water board to make it happen, and it is really starting to sound much like the earliest days at Lake Casitas  They are having to have the boats pressure-washed before being allowed on the lake, and it sounds like they are expecting to conduct the 'rubber-glove' inspection reminiscent of those initially conducted at Casitas. Many have been asked to bring their boats down on Friday, have them inspected and washed, and leave them overnight on premises.

While I believe that this is a measure that the guys in LEBC are trying to use to mitigate the expected delays in the inspection process, there is significant potential for liability which I doubt the water board is prepared to assume. It is unfortunate that the folks involved with putting on this extremely worthwhile charity event are caught in the middle of ignorance, and again kudos to them for their persistance in ensuring that these heros are able to enjoy this special liberty.

I'll be there early on Saturday morning, hoping for the best, and doing what I can to make it a day to remember for the heros involved. Best of luck to all those involved with organizing this incredible event!

Just to let you all know that some of us at DFG are going to be there tomorrow (Friday) around noon with our pressure washer to help inspect and wash boats. We may also be there first thing Saturday moring to help out. I check with the organizers and you do not have to leave your boat there on Friday night. The lake is allowing any of the boats that come down on Friday to stay overnight for free. If a boaters want to go home they can and worse case scenario may be a quick wash on Saturday but it really isn't needed.

We are going to try and make this go as quickly as we can. It will be really helpful if all the boaters show up with their plugs pulled and any place that might hold water dry. Clean, Drained, Dry.

I wouldn't worry Roger. I've been checked twice in 2+years of going there.

Thanks Kev... I'm not really worried for myself as I always make sure the boat is clean and dry, but I'm concerned about the potential of impact for the full field. It would be a shame to have some guys left behind because of inspection failures. Also, if the inspection process takes as long as they were warned (up to 30 minutes per boat) it would wreck their logistics. You know they are having to decontaminate every boat (with the high-pressure hot water sprayers), right? Have they done that with you during that time? I got the impression this was new and special to this event.

But, since Mike chimed in I know there will be some logic and sanity to the process.

Roger,
If they do the same washing process as the Rangers at Cachuma, it'll only take 15 minutes a boat. All they wash is the hull and trailer.

Your right Mark but with 50 plus boat at 15 minutes each it would take us the better part of the day to get them on the water. That is why they are trying to get as many boats done on Friday as possbile. I don't see the washing taking more than 5 minutes a boat.
