Diesel in Mexico?...Watching the evening news...

Post by Shad*Wizard »

last night, a guy that owned a trucking company in S. California was crossing the Mexican border with an outfitted truck he could use to buy diesel for his fleet...He was tapped out of his savings and just trying to make it...The price down there was $2 and change for diesel and they said the Mexican government controlled the fuel prices...Hmmm?...

May be time to move to Del Rio!...

I dont know but in Castro Valley the price I saw yesterday for the diesel was 5.24  Man am I glad I went with the Tundra and not the Ram. If Dodge had what I wanted on the lot I would be in one now looking at that price rather then 4.09 for regular Arco. If this nation doesnt do something about this crisis soon I see a huge jump in the crime rates in every town in the nation because of this fuel mess GWB got us into

Bet he won't be doing that for long. The guberment doesn't like people not paying taxes. Just ask the folks running engines that uses used cooking oils. They're getting hefty tax bills now.

I know someone that converted to propane in the seventies. He never reported it to the state for years - no taxes. Finally his mechanic called the state with a question and accidentally turned him in.

The guy was fined $10,000 and the mechanic lost a fleet of 25 trucks to work on.

Don,
If you really believe GWB is responsible for the price of gas, you are either really nieve or just grossly mis-informed........well maybe I should just ask you to explain to us how he is responsible.

he is just the first and easiest to blame.
in the 90's gas was 2$ and under.something has changed in the past
10 years.no one has really said what it is though.people just blame the oil company.no one gives any answers.its always well its raining in texas so that will push the price up,or we had to repaint the fuel refinery or something that pushes it up.it wont change until the people that we vote for actually do what we want them to do.not just get in office and hang out for awhile.it wont be a relief untill is back down to under 2$...dont fall for the well at least its back to 3$. just my 2 cents

I heard that Border Agents are turning back vehicles with auxiliary tanks starting a few days ago. Enforcing some EPA policy. I do like the George Bush comment. If that guy is so powerful that he can singlehandedly manipulate the price of oil on the spot market we have the right guy in our front seat. Maybe he can give us each 600,000 instead of the 600 we got to prop up the economy. That should do some damage in cleaning up the Country. After all he can do what ever he wants right? Personally I think you might do well to look at the tree-huggers (political and public) that have not allowed a new refinery to be built in this state since the 70's.

Or maybe the fact that China is subsidizing gas so that more people can afford to drive which creates more demand and less supply which last I heard, makes the price go up. Ultimately the price wouldn't go up if there weren't people willing to pay the price.......

Now that we have that all straight.....I actually know how to fix this problem.....Here it is....

Choice #1- Reduce the demand for the product. This will cause there to be an excess supply which will bring the price down.

Choice #2- Increase the supply at a rate greater than the increase in demand. This will also create and excess supply which will bring the price down.

I guarantee you that those are the only two things that will change the situation that we have for the long term.

as a small business owner I know what an increase in product cost can do to your bottom line.I dont know how some of the trucking companies are making it.the mom and pop teams.some are probably shutting down.

Choice #1

Free Caribou and Liberal tags to all Americans and then we drill in Alaska, California and the Florida Coast.
Gas will be back under $2.00 a gallon in no time.

Easy quick draw. Who is going to eat all that corn and wheat the government is subsidizing with the Colorado river water? Besides hunting tags will bring the DFG in to this solution. That's a sure way to get to 5 dollar gas.

The demand for gas has deropped 1-3% in the last few months
the refinerys cut probuction 2-4% to maintane there profit margen so much for price and demand

Choice #2- Increase the supply at a rate greater than the increase in demand. This will also create and excess supply which will bring the price down.
The oil companise will not do that until some one forces then to.
The way to get the price of oil down is to raise the value of the dollar. with us spending 12 billion a month on a war with the people supplieng us with oil the price of oil will be high. now don't think I think that the war is a wast of money. But something has to happen to resolve the matter before we end up in a resesion tring to save someone elses butt.......

Check out what happened to the economy when the World Trade Center was attacked. I would rather have a war there than here. We do need more control over refinery production. As well there needs to be a requirement on American companies to provide adequate stock of any goods they produce before they are allowed to export. Steel has been out of hand for a few years. The past couple of months have been especially crazy.

The war is probably the only thing keeping us out of a recession....What do you think that 12 billion is being spent on? Someone has to make the tools of war and supply the troops. That means American jobs and increased GDP. There are really only two ways a govt can stimulate an economy. Loan money or spend money. The fact the Fed cut interest rates to stimulate the economy made for cheap money but also devalues the dollar.....And that's why counts are down at all the tournaments. James...DITTO to all your comments...

Its a supply and demand thing. As a former military member I can tell you the price of gas in other contries (on either side of the ponds) is MUCH, MUCH higher...how bout...S. Korea...$6 a gallon...or even in the middle east...(UAE)...$5 a gallon....and still I dont hear anyone complain about a $6 Venti crap in a cup or what ever you call a large coffe now a days...heck even a gallon of water is more than a gallon of gas...

How this relates to fishin...instead of buyin $60 dollar lures...buy a pack of worms...wait...I better practice what I say....LOL.

In a free market gasoline prices are related and effected by four major factors that actually determine the cost of gasoline:
1 – Cost of crude,
2 – taxes on the sale of crude and gasoline at the pump,
3 – refining or the lack of, and
4 - distribution and marketing.

In a control market (which we are in) you have to add another factor
5. Manipulating by external forces (as in our Government, OPEC, and special interest).

There is plenty of gas selling on the open market, more than enough to meet the worldwide demand. The price of oil, which everyone must agree is a commodity that seeks out the highest dollar buyers that are willing to pay. Supply and demand should determine high and low prices. To get lower prices you can either reduce the demand (highly unlikely since we Americas love our cars and boats) or increase the supply and providers which has been controlled for the last 35 years by external forces. So rising gas prices is not a supply and demand issue like it should be because it is controlled by our Government, OPEC, and special interest and not by the free market.

There are different solutions that could work and some are not worth our time or resources. What we as citizens of this Country need to use is our common sense to enact the ones that would be best for our Country. To start I have to say we all have a responsibility to take care of what we have and that includes our environment. But our environment is not the only reason we should be supporting. This all or nothing attitude is causing damage to our economic that is just starting to show.

Also I believe our science, technology, and innovation will prosper in a society that uses a free market to allocate resources and “respects the virtue of individual accomplishmentâ€

Marty and I’m mad!
And there you go. The one thing that most people do not understand. We, as a democracy are not controlled by one man as many want to believe in placing blame. We are the largest component on the government. Unfortunately "we" have become a divided group of special interests only worried about our one little project. We need to speak up for all of our needs not just one. I have one little issue with your post. I doubt that the government is happy with increasing gas prices. Most fuel taxes are fixed per gallon and this increase in price has lowerered demand. That lowers the government take. Fuel prices in Mexico are subsidized. All fuel stations are run by the government owned Pemex. Our fuel distribution system is probably too large to bring under government control. In Mexico you can drive for hundreds of miles before you find a station. Would you be willing to lose all of your neighborhood gas stations to lower the price?

Being new to posting on this site, I'm a little hesitant to post this, but I believe that Marty is right on in his comments. Rather than post my personal comments and reveal my ignorance, I received an email a few days ago that made a great deal of sense to me. I thought I'd share the web address then you guys can make of it what you will. It is simply another person's opinion. I'm frustrated like the rest of you as the cost of fuel has cut into my fishing to the point of being non-existant!

My dad went to do some work in Prudhoe bay Alaska , he noticed all these fires burning from large pipes . So he asked one of the guys there what the deal was , he told him they were burning off all the natural gas , there is so much of it that if they tapped into it and brought it down to the rest of the states it would flood the market and the price would be too cheap , so they just burn it to get rid of it . Isnt that jacked up ?

Probably tic off anyone that trades stock but WTH. If the butts on wall st. quit buying futures on an inflated dollar they would have a major impact on the price we are paying at the pump. supply and demand my aching arse, the US has both, and as long as the traders use crude as a commodity you and I are going to be paying dearly. Case in point my cousin just bought futures for late July, so he would be assured of having fuel for his harvest fleet, are you ready, 156.00 a barrel, personally I hope he loses his butt and the fed investigators find conspiracy to manipulate then crude will take a major tumble, we can then afford to fish on a regular basis again.

In truth, the commodity traders have little to do with the overall price of oil. They are just riding the wave created by this shortage of oil. In the past, the US demand did drive the price of oil but the oil producing nations are looking at the next 20 to 30 yrs not the next 6 months. With nations like China and India growing at an "alarming" rate the US is left to play 2nd fiddle and get in line hoping to "get ours".
Because of the external demands, people like your friend, have to buy futures to guarantee that they will even have a slice of the pie.
We drove the Soviet Union out of business with our ability to outspend them, now the Chinese may do the same to us with oil and steel!
We have to start facing a reality that we may not be the biggest kid on the block any more in this "global economy". There are forces at work that we can no longer control or have the biggest influence over.
It's time for us to quit relying on outside energy sources and tap into our own. Being self sufficient is the only thing that can guarantee our future.

Remember the Industrial Revolution. This helped put the USA on the top shelf and no one could touch us. Remember the History lessons. Well We sold our industry or gave it away and now we are going to $&^% Now the super power is shifting to the main Industrial power and thats China. They dang near make everything. Look at basically every thing you buy from your socks and shoes to everything we own. WHY is that. You guys here is an investment idea. Invest in gold and silver because I see China buying all prescious metals not just the small stuff. They are buying all the copper, steel, and oil now and look at the prices for that. We may be able to double our money because of this. Gold closed at 885.00 an Ounce and silver 17.00. I bet gold gets 1300.00 and silver 60.00 by this time in 2010. Just a thought.

wow, you have figured out a way to blame the entire mess on Democrat's-ha ha ha. Your obviously an intelligent guy, but nowhere do I see anything regarding mid-east termoil having any part in the rise in oil prices. Is it just mere concidence that oil prices started and have continued to rise along with war and tension in the middle east? I think there is enough blame to go around for all, including democrats, republicans, environmental groups that'll sue at the drop of a pin, war, speculators, government regulations that strangle industry expansion, auto industry that pushes their giant gas guzzling suv's because the proffit margin on them is better than any other vehicles. blah blah blah, oh yea, us the consumer and our wastefull practices. even in the midst of record prices there is a 1/3 mile long line of parents dropping their kids of at a school that is more than likely just a 1/2 mile or less from their homes-in a yukon no-less. there is a whole lot more too it than just a bunch of democrats.
there is something else at work here, and we all need to wake up to it. the organizations like sierra club and save our whatever, these groups have mastered the art of lobbying, they know how to put a kamora on legislators. the squeaky wheel gets the grease, it's been like that for centuries. we all need to take a little blame and man up, this didn't happen overnight, it started a long time ago and it's now coming home to roost.

If you really honestly believe that, then pull over and get out of the way. There are still a lot of manufacturers and others in this country who don't see it that way. labor intensive work will always migrate to the countries with the cheapest labor pool, that's natural and actually good, if other countries reamain poor, then we have no place to ship and export our goods and services. There are massive looming problems ahead for china, 900 million baby boomers nearing the end of their productive (working) lives, so what kind of bill do you think they're facing with so many aged people? china also doesn't have the natural resources we have, and against the wishes of some, we still have a substantial amount of natural resources should we need them in the future. I see an huge future in front of us, technology, bio-medical, alternative fuels, new aged weaponry, and still the worlds most productive workforce-even with all of societies distractions-we are the worlds most productive.
Sure prices are high, and none of us like it, but face it people make a heck of a lot more money these days, would your Dad have paid 60 dollars or more for a single bait, would he have gone out and purchased a 50 thousand dollar boat, even if you adjust those things for inflation, our parents and their parents didn't spend money lavishly the way our generation does.

Gas in Mexico? No thank you. I did a stock market project earlier this year. South American gas was one of my mainstays in the "fake" investments. I "invested" in the standardized oil company for Brazil. Pemex, the Mexican standardized oil company, suffered many losses over at month period. Much of the oil pipelines and rigs run through the south of the country. At one point in my time investing the in the gas down there, groups of Mexican insurgents were attacking the friggin' pipelines and put the oil production out for a week.
Gas is lower in Mexico because the government controls everything. No gas taxes= no revenue= less money for the people. So, yes, while the Mexican and many others in South America pay lower rates for gas, they also make less. The wages in South America are much lower than here in North America. They can't afford to pay $4 a gallon. Look at Venezuela. The oil companies were nationalized, and Chavez put it all under govt. control. Now the wells that made up the backbone of the economy suffer and the average living standards have dropped drastically for Venezuelans. So yes, while we may bore the brunt of government regulation and private interests, the tradeoff is huge revenues for the public and better living standards.

Good thing all you guys brag about that 20mpg diesel mileage  You don't need a 3/4 ton diesel to tow a bass boat. You wanted the $7000 option and the 20mpg and the big "safe" truck.

Guy at work wouldn't drive to lunch anymore because of "gas prices". I told him someone who ownes a Cadalic shouldn't complain. A bass boat is a luxuary, PERIOD. Stop bitching about the price for something that is a LUXUARY!

BTW, diesel will go down after the 2008 Red Chineese Olympics. They have been running diesel gennerators like gang busters to prepare and to run the event.

One last correction, someone mentioned below $2 in the 90s, it was more like 99cents in 1999
Don't be lame. It's just fishing; you are not the new mesiah you know! Check your attitude at the door Mr. Spinners on da boat trailer.

sure it is. it takes fuel to tow your fishing boat, no? if the fuel costs you so much that it impacts your fishing, isn't it related?
since much of the tackle and supplies that go into your boat are indirectly or directly related to the cost of oil, isn't it related?

Isnt that jacked up ?
Same with propane. Its a waste product. When I used to drive across america, you'd see huge fires shooting out of smoke stacks at refineries at night, burning it off.
