After doing the swimbait thing for some time now, I was going "Old School" for the next Night tourney. I wanted to get a good one to see if it would shake me up in a tournament. It had been sense 2002 that I got one at 9 lbs in a tourney on light line, it shook me up back then.
I have got a bunch of nice fish in the past few years swimbaiting and it did not bother me if a 10 got off any more. But I thought..." What about in a tournament?" Would it still shake me up?
I did get that chance that I asked for this last weekend. I tossed out my 8" bait, had a thump and set hard. I was using a Shimano Jimmy Houston 6'6"MH

with 12 lb P-Line PF on a Curado 200.
"This fish felt good" I said to my partner when I set the hook. It then came up and jumped, it was 9 PM , you could still see just a little to know it was a good one, plus the water thrash sounded good too. At the first jump we both said...OH.................

. Then she went down striping line seemed like she went down forever. I brought her back up about half way and down she striped line again. At that point it felt like something else was there , Rock? branch?

I was not sure but I put more pressure to get her up out of there. Got her out but she was staying down there. Then she started going shallow again, striping line
I was not used to this kind of butt kicking from a bass after swimbaiting

.
So then she went shallow and I went to the back of the boat, I put the pressure on her and up she came again

. After some close to the boat fighting she was in the net. She was only 8.8 lbs with the head of a 10. Let me tell ya... I was jacked up

I could hardly retie my line after that

I was shaking for some time. It had been a while sense I got shaken up from a fish. But I guess it will always be there when big fish come in the boat in a tourney after a LONG..................fight

That was the hardest fighting 8 lb fish I had ever caught.
I thought I would share the moment.
It was a fun night, I got what I asked for. They still shake me up in a tourney
