well at about midnight there was a big meteor, or something, that flew over us and lit up the area far brighter than the moon. It was an omen that many would lose nice fish.
That was an unbelievable site ! At first it was like sombody lit a flare or somthing . Just got brighter and brighter than one big ball of sparks and it was gone . By far the largest falling star I have ever seen . All was fallowed by a big cheer from the campsites . Pretty cool !
Yeah.. But how was the fishing??? What was working, and what wasn't? I am going ot be in my first night tourney on the 19th of next month, and I could use all the help I can get...
I came. I caught. I released. Life is good! -Saul-
That was some serious fireworks....I thought the same thing....Somebodies fired off a flare because I could see my shadow illuminated on my partner when I said something about it we both watched the spacejunk tumble though split up and burn coming in. I told Doug later that I kept waiting for it to hit the ground beyound the rise and glow and pulse real green like....Just don't walk up on it waving a flag.... ...Saul...However you catch your fish right now is a good start for the over three hours of light you'll have. Some guys had trouble when it got dark...we caught them good until after the shooting star episode and then zip for the last few hours. Others caught fish the whole time....My partner and I are still trying to figure out how it was that we caught so many without a kicker to our name....sorry I can't tell you what our newest revision on our gameplan is but I'm sure that you will have the most fun you can have with your clothes on at the next shebang whether your holding five bags or one!

Hmmmm ...Cheer from the campsites ay??? hmmmm....I know what side of the lake Ron was on
Saw that same thing at the DVL tourney. I thought people were starting the 4th early. It was like 3-4 seconds long before it went behind the hills (well not literally) on the Northwest part of the lake
I was there durring the day on Saturday and the crankbait bite was good, I caught only 1 on plastics. All 8 fish I found were 12 - 14 inches with only 1 @ 3lbs.
I fished the tournament. The first place we went for reaction bites was dead. So was the wind. We split and went worming. After we put 4 in the livewell my partner had to retie....Better weigh those fish and get culling balls on em I tell my partner....He was back there for 20 minutes while I caught our 5th fish and culled three more....Poor Doug was back there weighing as fast as he could and I'd put on a new worm and spank another and another... ...Next time I will be practised at the art of using his bitch'n cul-m-rite scale. The plastics bite was simply awesome for us. We really don't know how many we caught.....Due to some errors on our part and simple luck we lost some bigger fish at the boat but nothing that would have put us in the top 8 so go figure. It was truely an e-ticket for us and was the best night time worm bite for numbers that I believe I have ever been in. I'd say it was in my top 20 of worm bites for all time. So that's how our bite was. Fish were caught on everything I believe I could have tossed out a shoe string and got bit so hard to narrow down specifics as to baits. Color has been something I am working on!

Remember what the Dormouse said. Feed your head!
Remember ...What the Dormouse said...Feed your head!
ya, I definately need to teach you how to work the cul-m-rite.
My shoulder hurt from setting on so many fish, hard to believe that none of them were bigger than 3 lbs. But, talk about a FUN night, we are talking about over 50 fish, long stretches of a bite on every cast, burning through 3-4 bags of worms...
I can't remember such a hot worm bite, worth the entry fee right there. Woulda been nice to have hit a wolfpack of bigger fish. but whatever, it was a total blast, and the meteor was insane, almost as good as the one a few years ago, and maybe even a bit brighter. It was like someone struck an arc with a welder...
amazing what goes on out there....
What else crazy has people seen at the night derbies ? Not just Casitas . Other that the fireworks last week the coolest thing I have seen at night was a Black bear stand upright looking at us from the shoreline on the big island . I had my head light on and watched the eyes reflect the light and rise streight up as he stood about five feet . Kinda freaked my partner a little .
