Re: The Petersons went straight from DVL
Good morning....or afternoon I mean. Being almost 50 I am not used to staying up all night and all day. sorry for the delay in posting the results. I did try to post the results this morning around 8:30 but I am unable to connect to the internet with my laptop which is where the program is with all of the results.
First however I would really LOVE to thank all of the 64 teams that showed up and fished this event. There were 41 pro teams and 23 semi-pro teams. Megan from Last Chance went far beyond and got "goody bags" for each team member when they signed up and also a raffle ticket for even more tackle. (55-60 more bags for raffle). The sponsors are numerous and I'll ask Megan to come aboard and post them for all to see. Additionally, I would like to thank our staff for helping run a good tournament. The weigh-in went well with no back-up to speak of. We started the weigh-in at 2 a.m. and were driving away from Diamond Valley after the awards ceremony to run a tournament at Lake Hodges by 3:35 a.m.! Gotta love a great staff and also the anglers who were very prepared when they came to the scales for weigh-ins. It makes such a huge difference to have your fish already in the bags for a drive-up weighin.
I would like to offer a public apology to George Fedor. I totally forgot to call up Margaret during the raffle and give her a card from George for their wedding anniversary. I was absent minded is the only truthful excuse I can give. I did see the joy in her eyes when she did get the card following the raffle drawing before the event. From the depth of my soul, I am very sorry George.
In all, having a $300 entry on the pro side we were able to payback $9,260 back to the anglers.
On the semi-pro side with a $180 entry we paid back $2,370.
Total payout to the combined teams was $11,630.
The best thing of all is that we are going to be given to Valley-Wide recreation somewhere around $4,000 that was raised from this charity event.!!! The kids from Valley-Wide are going to be so happy because of the generous donations from sponsors and the participation of the anglers.
So here are the top 5 teams on the pro side.
Larry Cross/Art Berry weighed in 18.91# for $3,335
Jae Cho/Soon Chul Lee 17.18# for $1,235
Jeff Van Nimwegen/Shawn Cooley 17.12# $1,250
Chris Galvin/Daniel Mogines 16.93# $1,130
Jay Wright/Joe Payne 16.85# $580
and the top 5 teams on the semi-pro.
Rickey Graham/Todd Bigalke 18.93 $1,195
Steve and Kendra Morovich 15.55# $475
Rick Reynolds/N. Roger Pluff 14.82# $330
Lance and Belen Ladd 14.81# $235
Timm O'Donnell/Jason Shull 14.31#

Looks like the Semi-pro winner
should have paid the extra $120.00. Cost him $2200.00. Great job to all, especially "Big Daddy Art Berry" and Larry Cross. Rick G.

Re: The Petersons went straight from DVL
Lynne,
Thanks for putting on a great event
Aaron and I had a blast fishin' it. We finally figured things out around 10:30 and managed to put together at 16.36 limit good enough for 8th place (not bad for only our 2nd tourney on DVL, 1st night event). It was kind of wierd throwing back 4 1/2 pounders (Hmmm...3 fish limit better than a 5 fish limit at Castaic...I'm Lovin' It!).
We are looking forward to this weekends derby now that we "think" we have a better idea of how to fish the lake

Re: The Petersons went straight from DVL
We heard today that the first place team on the simi pro side screwed up!!! they or one of them cashed last year on diamond valley teams which according to the rules , thier 18+lbs should not be counted on the simi side as a rules violation. what do you think...hmmmmmmmmm
I say, mistake maybe, but its over so
close it.
just my thought.

Re: Whats the deal with DVL night derby?
It has been brought to our attention that the first place team on the semi-pro side cashed a check for $75 last July at the DVL night tournament. This team member interpreted the rules to read that if you cashed a check within the last season instead of if you cashed a check in the last year which included last years night
tournaments, that you could fish as a semi-pro. This was an honest mistake. We did contact each of the other teams affected and each and every teams gladly said that they wanted the tournament results to stand knowing that this was an HONEST mistake, nothing was done intentionally and this was a charity event to benefit the children from Valley-Wide Recreation.
However after speaking with Dan and Megan from Last Chance Bait and Tackle they feel even though it was a honest mistake they are sending National Bass West a check for $1,195 so that the tournament can be recalculated and the money distributed. This money is coming directly from Last Chance though they made no money from the event.
We all enjoyed putting on the event and appreciate the positive response/feedback we are receiving. We appreciate your continued support of both organizations.
Thanks again to all that participated in raising $4,450 for the kids at Valley Wide Recreation. We mailed that check to Valley-Wide Recreation today.

Thanks to all that fished! My daughter play's bball at one of Valley Wide rec center in Menifee and also we have many parks through out the area that VW takes care of. Wish I could have been there with you all but sometimes things get in the way of fishing. Great job to those that did well and I'm sure if you didn't get a check you had fun on the big pond.

Re: Whats the deal with DVL night derby?
Thanks to NBW for a great event.
I know it was a honest mstake and nobody feels worse then they do. After all it was for the kids and I for one DO NOT have a problem with it. It was a great warm up for next week and it gave all the teams some idea what was going on and what it would take next week. And it gave me a chance to check out a new partner that I had never fished with to see if we could put up with each other, which worked out pretty good, So looking forward to another great event

RULES are RULES....where could the confusion be. IF you don't deserve a prize and you keep it what does that say . I 'm fairly sure who did, what when it was realized a violation occurred, will be remembered far longer than a "semi-pro" win. Whether I catch hell or not, I'll ask....who can define INTEGRITY?
Re: Whats the deal with DVL night derby?

Re: The Petersons went straight from DVL
I was part of the semi pro team that won the event. I caught 2 of the 3 fish we weighed including the 8 ponder. Here is my past experience so the group can see why I think of myself as not being a pro. I am 44 years old and have fished for bass a total of 3 times in my life if you count Saturday. I learned how to tie the knot I used for the hook the week before when I went for the second time. I think I was using drop shot as my method but I'm not sure. They where caught on a rubber worm. No idea about the color or type, they all look the same to me. No idea on the location. Only been on the lake a few times but it was some place near the shore. The best pole I own came from Wal-Mart and was $29 with the reel. It still has the line on it that it came with. Are these the makings of a Bas Pro? I don't think so but if it is, post an address and I will send you by plaques. They must mean more to you then to me although my kids where pretty excited by them.
I think that every one who thinks we cheated needs to go and take a tour of an old folk’s home and experience some of the things that are really important in life. From my experience fishing isn't one of them.
My goal for the night was to have fun and not embarrass myself of which both goals where meet. My odds of coming back, not so good.

Re: The Petersons went straight from DVL
Todd, first of all congrats on the win. You smoked em! Don't worry about some of these guys who post on this board. They have way too much time on their hands and are jealous types. You did nothing wrong at all, so please don't let them dictate your future tournament participation. Again congrats and I hope to see you at the next night tourney.
To those who wonder why people are falling out of this sport, here is a prime example.

WOW!! Last Chance went too far for you fellas! That's a great gesture from them. Todd, good job! Nate was just kickin' ball's on another team, funny one Nate. US OPEN and Stren event pro's fishin' as semi-pro's, that's classic!!!! I don't think someone winning 75 bucks last year is killin' anyone Todd. I'm sure you wish you were in the pro-teams side after the fact. Way to get them! Hippie, keep it down! See you all Saturday night!

trust me im not affraid to tell the petersons how i feel matter of fact im not afraid to tell anyone how i feel. NO i wasn't talking about the guys who won as semi thats there own doing i just laugh how some guys not talking about the 1st place team spend alot money fishing the open as a pro and then trhey show up to DV be cheap and fish as an amature don't get it. I personally think the semi - pro thing for team tournies is just dumb to hard to police and takes to much money from the top watch NBW will get a good draw sat. without 2 classifications .
Re: The Petersons went straight from DVL
I'm with you Kevin - AMEN brother. 2 much bitchin & not enough fun fishin. If increasing participation is a goal of an organization, have a low $ entry side for all the tournaments. I think a lot of us go to participate, get away from the crap we deal with all week & enjoy ourselves.
I don't even pretend that I have the skills to compete against the big sticks at DVL. I don't know all their names, but for instance: Berry, Cross, Grovers, Will, Frank, Morrows, Cory, Josh M., Pet M., Phua, Uribes, etc., etc., etc. I admire their abilities, but I'm a realist. 99 times out of 100 they will kick my butt and that 1 time I might out weigh them - hey, I think I got lucky, not I out fished them.
Like I said, I go to get away from it all & have a good time. Donating $300 for someone like me gets real old real quick. Donating $100 ain't so bad. And we had a great time & caught quite a few fish.
Lynne & crew did a great job running that tournament & I would do it gain in a heartbeat. I liked the 2 tier format & who cares who fished the low money side?
You want to complain about something - how many night tournaments have there been at DV where there is a special event fee you have to pay - when are they going to put some lights in the parking lot?
Kev - where u been? You've been mia on here. We need some pictures.

For next years event
if this format is to be continued, there needs to be much more stringent rules. Way too much "Gray Area", when that kind of $ is involved. I am sure that the fine people at Last Chance and NBW will have it much more fine tuned by then. Glad this weekend is a normal tournament. Night events are a rookie's best chance at high finishes so they should come out for sure. If you feel uncomfortable with the $, leave the options to the veterans. Have fun. Rick G.

your welcome for my 2 cents. They are always available. Not trying to single you out but the bitching nowa days is f@#^ing pathetic.. every tournament there is some sort of controversy.. Its a joke. If all the whining and foot stomping isnt enough at weigh in, people come on here and contiue their tyrade. Its a joke. Too many haters these days. Dont hate, Congratulate.
Way to get TODD, whether you fished 3 times or 3 years that's a very impressive bag you brought in. Good Job!!

Re: Whats the deal with DVL night derby?
Todd, sounds like you made an honest mistake. Nobody is perfect. I figure that’s just part of the growing pains with this not often used format. Congrats to you and your partner on the catching the fish.
For whomever it was that supposedly fished the US Open and such…….., who cares. If you followed the rules and hadn’t cashed a check at DVL in the last year then you followed the rules and you could fish the Semi-Pro side.
For some folks it’s about fishing and for some folks it’s about winning money. I don’t hate the guys who just want to fish.
Like Rick G. wrote in a previous post, with the rules the way they were, Mike Long and Kevin Van Dam could have been out here fishing the Semi-pro side.
Kevin is dead on (along with Rick G. from previous posts on similar subjects)
Sounds like Lynne did a good job with dealing with the aftermath.
Meagan and Dan; WOW!! way to go to try and make everything right with the participants. I can't say enough positive about what you did.
The Pro-Teams and Semi-ProTeams idea is a real good concept to try and grow the sport in my opinion. I know that some folks will be disappointed because they won't win as much money if there is a semi-pro division but maybe in the long run……...
I think we just need an organization to pick up the semi-pro idea and run with it. That, along with a well written eligibility rule and time for folks to figure out how to implement it to make it work.
It never ceases to amaze me all the folks whom seem to need the drama. A lot of haters out there behind the keyboards.
Nor do I ever fail to be amazed by those folks (or the number of those folks out there) who would rather be negative and bash and drive people away from the sport than to offer up real solutions to real issues. Get a life. It’s only fishing. Remember the big things in life like your health, the health of your family and friends. There are folks out there in Iraq getting killed and people losing their jobs because of the economy.
Dan and Meagan offered up a solution to the short-term issue. As I wrote above, WAY TO GO Dan and Megan from LAST CHANCE BAIT AND TACKLE!!! What an example for the rest of us.
Respectfully submitted,
Robert Schneider

I shy away from the semi-pro idea. But I do like the idea of a low cost trail..... and anyone who wants too can fish it. Heck if people HAVE to have big money options offer an additional 100.00 top 3 option, an additional 100.00 big fish option and a 100.00 winner take all option... but make a base tournament and a few options like big fish and top 5 right at 200.00 per team and I think you will see a better turnout.

Noluk,
I hear what you are saying (keep the basic costs down) but I think that there would still be a bunch of folks out there that wouldn't fish tournaments because of the perception that 90% of the money is won by 10% of the teams (I don't have any real data to support that so I call it a perception).

Great, another tournament trail. Hey, I got one. Everyone give me 100 bucks cash in the morning and then at 3pm I'll cut everyone a $100 check. Everyone will be happy. Just fish guy's. 80 boat feilds will never happen again! Take some advice from me. This is what I do at every tournament. I pay the entry and write myself a $50 check. I also bring a random plack from the stack at home. Now I get a check and a plack at every tournament. It works every time! Mama thinks I'm the shanizzle!

Still too many events
way too many permits issued. That will solve the low entrants problem. Just like the boat shows, too many=low attendance. 1 Fred Hall LB=packed. Has to be exciting and different. Rick G.

Wow Rickey such passion
Make sure you get your FACTS straight before you hide behind your keyboard. Lynne and your boss Dan called the attention to your rules violation. I sent a PM to Lynne on a friend of mine who fished the semi side and won a night event last year. He got no money, but according to their rules was a violation. She and Dan took it the rest of the way. Why dont you ask her tonight. You want to follow me and Kyle, GET IN F,N LINE. We win at times because of hard work and time on the water. My suggestion is follow all the Guides, they are on the water every day. Congrats on your win last weekend, Rick G.
