Where Do The Fish Go at Noon on a 100 Degree day?

Post by FIVEtenthz »

Boat Docks? Deeper Tules? Far Back in the Mats? Something I've never really figured out. What about in lakes?

That is a good question. In places like the Delta I think that most of the water is the same temp minus really deep holes. It does not stratify like water does in lakes. I know in lakes that they head for deeper water and take a break. In the delta I think they head for deeper water, maybe with some shade. Then again I have rocked em in 6" of water in 105 temps before. Just remember there are only three places a bass can be top, middle, or bottom. On days like that I say fish at night or early and late.

Shade, deep water, under mats, docks. Sounds like you do have it figured out.

Ditto Rich Look for current where the river bends fish the ledge also on the delta they can be up shallow as well but I bet 9 out of 10 you catch shallow there is fast moving water unless your fishing mats or thick weeds. Point is bass dont like the hot weather no more then you or I so find deeper water or inlets on lakes and cover ambush points on the delta I would be working that double buzz and a frog but thats me. There are so many veribles on the delta you can fish so many tech. right now and catch fish find that cut near current and flip a big sinko in there let the current carry it past the ambush spot and hang on or fish a jig or crank the key is finding the best deep water, ambush points cuts, breaks thats were the big fish will be. CUrrent current current, mats, weeds, rip rap take your pick but find the good stuff. a deep rip rap bank on a bend "Money!" throw some current weeds and a shelf bigger money! hope this helps

I agree with Johnny C. I would pull out my frogs, buzzbaits, spooks, lunker punker and wakebaits and start covering water and hold on!
As rich stated as well the crank is a proven bait of choice in these conditions. I would pull out the 6 to 18 footers!!! 8)
Then of course there is the jig. Which you cant go wrong with!
Theres still big fish shallow and deep!
Its just up to you to fish what you really want to and the style you prefer.

An oldie but a goodie is the video Hot Summer Days. It is a video w/ Dave Tencati and Bobby Barrack fishing the delta in the summertime. Great stuff about water temps below mats and stuff like that. It might answer some of your questions.
I would rather jog home from my own Vasectomy than spend Saturday at the mall.

I caught a nice one today on a frog.

Felt like I blew it, late to blast off. Big full moon, fish can eat all night, combined with clear water conditions on the river.

It can be tough, it was for me.

I thought about busting out the WRATS but did not. Too busy farting around with frogs, or trying to swimbait. Messed around a lot with Zara spook type baits too.

Was this the first full moon Andy ?

DeltaALuke and I put togther a great bag all in 20 minuets yesterday just messin around. Prolly #20-#22 ....

Did not fish today -- but the boys and I went up and watched the weigh-in's for the 100% at Russo's. I was really suprised at the weights weighed today compared to what happed for us yesterday.

Yesterday when Luke and I got on them it was a falling tide - Witch really explained alot taking in and analizing the structure, cover, location, presentation, time and tide. And most of the fish were still bright silver meaning .....

But we never think about what is going on the night before cause we are not fishing it !!

Got one was still ready yet to spawn-- and a Jack that had milk on it as well.
