to be honest I catch and release everything even the one over 10 that I caught, but its your right to keep what you catch as long as you did it legally which I'm sure you did. But you will here different views on here about that.sheldonbisbee wrote:sure is

While yes it is a nice fish, it would look alot better swimming away to be caught again by someone else.

Sheldon, Congrats on the first Big Fish and PB. Too Cool, I did the same exact thing, first really Big Fish was a 7.6 lbr, took her home...of course couple years later go out with G-Man Catch a 9.5 lbr...then break that with my first dd all in the same year. Congrats again and dont let no one give you any garbage about keeping it. Keep at it, they will come a lot easier.sheldonbisbee wrote:I know those ones are by the way nice fish

Scott you have to look at it like deer hunting, sometimes you have to cull the dumb fish out of the breeding pile so that smarter and bigger fish can grow and spread their genes, besides I eat every bass i catch....sometimes i keep double my limit.Scott Shambre wrote:While yes it is a nice fish, it would look alot better swimming away to be caught again by someone else.

Re: LOOK AT THIS BASS
Nice fish bud.
Just so you know for the future. You dont have to keep the fish to have it mounted. All you need is some pics and weight.
That way you know for next time.

Re: LOOK AT THIS BASS
Actually, you really want to get lots of pictures, the length and girth measurements, and as accurate weight as possible. You can then get a fiberglass replica mount, which is better tha the real thing and will last your lifetime, while still letting them go to get bigger and caught again.biteme wrote:Nice fish bud.

Re: LOOK AT THIS BASS
I might tend to disagree on this statement Roger. I know it's a personal preference, cause I ain't seen a replica mount, of any kind of fish, that has wow'd me like a real fish mount. I've visted with many a friends and folks who have had real mounts and replica mounts. I've had more of them, who had a replica mount, tell me if they had it all over ta do again, they would have gotten the real fish mounted as the one ya see up there is not even close to what that fished looked like when I caught it.tunaman wrote: You can then get a fiberglass replica mount, which is better tha the real thing. Roger
Either way, it's all about how the individual chooses ta fullfill his own personal ego. A trophy fish is just that, a trophy fish. And like you and me, it ain't gonna live ferever, and the many that have made it to the walls of so many anglers over the past 60 years, hasn't really hurt the fisheries themselves, as much as it hurts the ego's of the guy who live, Catch and Release under all costs". That's just a choice, some choose to make.
Nice fish Sheldon, be sure ya wrap it in a wet towel, then roll it up in newspaper and stuff her in the freezer. This will keep that fish protected for the short spell you have it. Then find you a taxadermist and git it to him with in the next week. If ya don't, two things will happen, it's gonna git freezer burned and ruined, or yer gonna leave it in there fer ever and never git it mounted. Now that would be a waist fer guys ta really be upset at ya, even me! Don't waist her, follow through with yer intentions.

Re: LOOK AT THIS BASS
That's interesting... I've seen some beautiful replicas, and I've seen some horrible skin mounts (mostly those which are many years old). The glass seems to maintain its color and shimmer, while the skin mount just seems to become dull and drab, as well as subject to cracking or other damage.Cooch wrote:I might tend to disagree on this statement Roger. Re: LOOK AT THIS BASS
I've seen both, and a replica looks really nice. But as I said its the catchers choice. but just make it one.tunaman wrote:That's interesting... WORD !! DeltaLuke and I were with G when he cought a spotted bass last Fri on the Delta even ~!!

You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

Nice fish Sheldon Congrats now with that being said I know whats done is done but the next big fish you catch snap a pic instead of killing it, a mount is nothing more then somthing to show off to friends ,etc.. show off with a pic. The fight was the prize and you won, its a fight you will never forget. why not give someone else the chance to have that same fight? Just a thought its your fish to do with what ya want.
