I like to use a snap or a split ring for extra freedom of movement. Sometimes I will use a loop knot which is quieter. BTW Caps are like yelling.

I like the Rick Clunn oval split rings from BPS, and use them often on topwaters to aid the action... they prevent the line from walking around and getting between the ends, which can weaken or damage the knot.

Try both and see what your personal preference is. It’s more about what you are confident in than what “worksâ€

The line will not foul on the hooks as much without the split ring .

I personally do not use a ring. However I do use a loop on jerk, crank, swimbait, and topwater baits. Poppers, frogs, spinner, and such do not really require the freedom of movement the others do. But Jason said.. It's really a matter of personal preerence. You are going to fish the lure better if you are confinent with it's movement.
