Where to take a 5 year old bass fishing

Post by underwaterparadise »

Hey folks been a while since I have been here, even had to change my user name :D

Any way, I need to find a nice honey hole to take my 5 year old. Since I opened my own Salt Water Aquarium store my fishing time is down to 6-8 times a year VS 100+ times a year. All my old ponds seem to have been overfished by people taking anything over 3" for fish soup :x

I have 2 boats but these days I only take out the 12' Alum with electric troller for ease of use. I take my boy to the Sutter bypass a lot and we hook up with Sunfish all the time but I want him to catch more Bass! He is only 5 but can cast better then some of my 30 year old friends and he all ready uses a normal spinning reel!!

Any advise on any ponds or small bodies of water would be greatly appreciated. We are catch and release so there is no worry of us drying out your honey holes hahahaha.

We tried a nice little Plae called Lake Francis that was nice and very peacful. he locked on to about 5 sunfish but no Bass and he has been begging to catch a pig!!

Thank Folks

While at the School of Bass a guy mentioned that Rollins Lake is putting out numbers of fish (nothing big) and is a great lake for a beginner. Personally I have never been there. I do know that Collins lake is a great family lake, with trout and Bass in it.

Del Valle in Livermore is fun, close and safe. 10mph speed limit so no huge boats.
I think therefore I fish.

Hey Rob-

If you want to catch a ton of fish, Melones is absolutely ridiculous right now. A shakey head or drop shot will catch an abundance of fish. Stay on the main lake, and concentrate on points and shady sided banks. Colors will vary from craw colors to shad immitations. I can guarantee there will be no slow moments in your fishing. If you want to catch the bigger 3Lb and up, you will need to slow down and fish some bigger baits.

Actually we will be heading up to Rollins next month.

I was hoping for some thing smaller then one of the local Lakes. We live in the Marysville/Yuba City area and fish most of the Lakes and the Sutter bypass. I just know there have to be some nice ponds around here!!

Thanks for all the tips!

Hey Rob,

Have you tried the dredger ponds off Hammonton-smartville rd., they are open to the public again and still produce some nice fish. Summertime is better at night. You can also try the ponds in Gridley.

Good fishin' to ya', Don Petty

I would go walk the bank at Camp Far West. I was up for the 4th in Roseville and took my Nephew and niece to CFW and I was able ro darthead a few fish for them. Being 3 and 5 years old they cant cast but they can reel em in. Caught a spot on the 1st cast and ended up with 3 fish in 1 hour.

Good luck,
Kap

Thanks Again. I will have to find out where those ponds in Gridley are.

We go to CFW all the time but during the summer there is too many skiers, etc. for me. We are the type that go camping the weekend before or the weekend after a big holiday!!

I am going to search out the dredge ponds as well.

Thanks again

Ya but I wanted smaller bodies of water. Something I don't always have to drag the boat out to.
