Fluorocarbon help

Post by edge »

I just went to the tackletour.com review of fluorocarbons and it left me with a lot of questions.

I am curious what everyone uses for their spinning rods and baitcasters. Of course price is a factor but so is quality.

Your thoughts are appreciated.

I've experimented and asked a lot of questions and found Seagar InvisX the best.

Ditto on the invizx. So far so good. I use it on a spinning reel in 6 or 8 lbs test. I've gone up to 10 and had serious line twist and line jumping off the spool issues with the 10. It's just too stiff with anything over 8 for a spinning rod. IMO

I like the Trilene 100% Flourocarbon. Its really good stuff. Its sencitive really strong and fairly priced compared to all the other brands out there. Its what I use for spinning gear and bait casting gear.

Another Im sure you will read about on here is Sunline. I hear its REALLY good stuff. I have only tried one brand of their many many kinds and I found it to be pretty sencitive but it was one of their cheaper models that isnt very abrasion resistant. It was the "Bass Special" but I heard that kind isnt even close to the shooter! They are a bit pricey but from what I hear its worth it! I hope this helps!

For baitcasting Gamma Edge is very strong...watch Big Show Scroggins catch those Falcon giants on 20lb. Gamma when all others are using braid.

I should mention, I only use fluorocarbon as leader material. I have no experience with casting reels.

I agree with Jason C. on the Trilene. Just spooled some up last week and its grrrr-eat! It's pretty limp for flouro and it's VERY sensitive. Not sure about how it would do off a spinning rod, but I think it would be fine. Don't forget to only fill 2/3 of the spool so it (flouro) doesn't jump off the reel.

That Trilene and Stren Fluoro is purty awesome stuff. It's what I have on my boat to respool my clients when ever we need to do so. I use strictly the 20 or 25# Sugoi on my jig rods, and the 17-20# Trilene or Stren on just about everything else!

I don't know if this is correct or not. But I read an article on Fluorocarbon Line that indicated that there are only three factories in the world that manufacture fluorocarbon line. Two are in Japan and one is in Germany? So I am thinking that there are at least 10 or more companies that seller the line under their brand names. the lines can't be to much different from each other. Unless you buy a package of line from each company and test them. Lots of bucks. I think it's a brand loyalty that most folks depend on. I use the P-Line brand. I really find that all fluorocarbon line is a problem on spinning reels. Ok Casting reels. The only time I use fluorocarbon now is if I'm fishing really clear water and feel the fish are line shy. Other wise mono has work for me
for years.

Actullay Jigs, PureFishing, with their two by Stren & Trilene, are indeed now making their fluorocarbon lines here in a factory in the USA. Many of the Fluoro brands we see here are indeed OEM'd out of Japanese factories, coming to us under a variety of labels. In as much as there indeed is a lot of brand loyalty, there are a wide range of fluoro grades being put out by these Japanese companies, that are not equal.

I would give the p-line halo fluorocarbon a shot. I love this stuff. I use 10# max on my spinning outfit and whatever will do the job with my baitcasting.

Good luck!!!

I use the 6-8 Fluoroclear P-line on my spin outfit and it is without a doubt strong, limp and sensitive. On my baitcasters P-line 15-20 100% fluorocarbon for jigs and worms.

Berkley Trilene 100%Fluorocarbon

I've been using the #12 & #15 pound test. I have been abusing this line in some of the nastiest places on the river in Fresno. This line has held up very well and for alot longer than other fluorocarbons. This line is very soft, supple and limp and has great abrasion resistance.
I was a Vanish and Vanish Transition user but now I'm completely sold on this stuff.

I've just started using vicious line about a month ago. Filled all my bait casters with it and very happy with it so far. And it is very affordable.

Cooch - where are you finding Stren Flurocarbon at ? I remember a few years back when Wally world stopped selling them and had a fire storm on them for like 2-3.00 a roll. Well, I just spooled up my last roll of 14lb and would like some more. Do you have a stock pile like dem Bo-Hawgs or is Stren Still makin the stuff?

That's exactly where I've seen it Johnathan, Wally World, up on Lonetree here in Antioch. Gene down at Hook Line & Sinker also stocks the Stren Fluoro. Keep in mind, since Pure Fishing purchased Stren, what is being sold today may no be the same, as the Stren and Trilene 100% Fluoros all come out of the same plant here in the US now. I actually like this new rendition much better than the older Stren Fluoro.
