Clear Lake

Post by Ray Vanacore »

I haven't been to Clear Lake in about 7 yrs. and was wondering whats the fishing is like in August, I have never been there other then Jan, Feb, March and April , and late winter. Since Folsom will be out of water and I can take some weekends off, I was thinking about going there for a week on the 2nd thru 8th. I do realize that there might be a weather problem as there is here, smoke and now heat. But lets say the weather turns for the best. Also where is a good place to stay, other then Konocti. Any one stayed at the Lake Escape Resort? I want to be by the water , where I can leave my boat in a slip . Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Ray,
Fishing in August is usually great. You can catch them on topwater, jigs, cranks, or finnesse. Actually they usually eat anything. Clear Lake fish love the heat and the hotter it gets the better they bite. There is some smoke there now and probably will still be some in August. Other places to stay on the water are Konocti Vista Casino, Lake Place Inn, Skylark, Or Anchorage Inn. There are tons of lake front options and some houses that at times can be rented at a decent rate. Make sure you are not going on a concert weekend as the rates go up. For off the Lake lodging I like the Kelseyville Motel, which is safe, reletively clean, and inexpensive.

The county just bought Holiday Harbor in Nice and had got rid of the weeds Deepest ramp in the lake, protected slips. Call 707-263-2580 about slip rental.

Hey Ray,

I am going this week end for 3 days, from Ed's report at Tackle its up in Lake Port (North End) and Bob's report Lakeshore bait and Tackle (South End) it's very good, call them up for the latest but last August they were eating the prop off my Ranger!!:) For some reason the bass have got more and more aggresive the hotter the water got in the last few years., August 2006 I was using all my ugly can not catch a fish on it lures and they were eating it, I was using an orange only grub about the size of a dill pickle and they were eating it.

Good luck and look for my report on the reports page:)

Ray, a lot of guys (including myself) stay at Ferndale Resort. Great Slips, restaurant, fueldock, centrally located and management who cater to bass anglers. Prices are reasonable.
Their website is under construction but here is some info http://ferndaleresortandmarina.com/

A little belated, but we stayed at Lake Escape Resort in April this year. Nice cabinlike rooms, very quiet, but the boat access sucks bigtime and there is only one plug to charge your batteries if you do not want to leave your boat in the water overnight. Ramp is narrow and is hard to get to. If the motel is busy you will not be able to turn your boat and trailer around in the lower lot!

Not great, I will not go back as the access is not good!
So much tackle, so little money!
