That guy was way too tentative. The barb on a hook isn't that big. Even without the line, just using needle nose pliers, when you decide you're going to do it, do it. Pull for real. There isn't that much meat in the way, and getting it out is what you're after, not a perfect exit hole. Quick equals good.

Last summer I ended up with a crankbait buried in my lower lip. It didn't hurt but I pulled like hell trying to get that thing out with pliers and it wouldn't budge. I had my 8yr old son do the line trick and it popped right out. I won't hesitate to use the line next time first off.

I was hooked in the chin by my partner with a worm hook. Past the barb. So I turned the hook and pushed the point out, so he could cut it off.
That's when I grew a beard.
Quick is hard to do when you're doing it yourself to yourself. I was lucky. There aren't that many nerves in the chin. But the lips have a ton! Glad your son was able to get it out for you.
Whether your use fishing line or pliers, the secret is the angle you pull from. If you push the hook shank down toward the skin, it kind of curls the barb behind the hook point, so it won't catch as you pull it out, if you pull from a place close to the skin. Kind of like getting a hook out of a fish.

Dont throw the spook while intoxicated. It never works out. Mr Striper is angry when he hits the deck.

I have had hooks in that would'nt come out with a pair of pliers. So why try it and go through the pain if it does'nt come out. Just use the line method.

I recently had to use one of these that I was carrying around for over a year. It worked great!

I have no affiliation with this manufacturer, other than keeping 1 kit in each of my boats and one in my truck, for those rare times I am without a boat.

Gary,
That's because you use good hooks on your lures!
