Clear Lake North end
Good grief the north end sucks. There are weeds 1/2 mile out and thick. I had both motors wrapped up so tight that my boat wouldn't move 3 or 4 times. Managed three fish to two pounds but the weeds distribute the fish out so much it took the fun out of fishing for me.
You can't even drag a T rigged Senko through this crap.
Its a minimum of 8 miles to any good areas to fish and thats a minimum of $54 in boat gas.
This just sucks, I can't afford this. I'm depressed. To tow my boat there might save a little getting there but by the time I run the boat around I'd still spend that much.

Re: Clear Lake North end
Greg we were on the lake two weekends ago (had not been on in a month and a half) and we found the same thing. It was so thick that sizmic toads, senkos nothing would penetrate it. We eventually headed south to some better fishing. We caught two on the north end, both right at 2-21/2.

THERE'S NO BIG FISH IN THE NORTH END OF THE LAKE...
YOU MUST RUN SOUTH TO CATCH FISH....

3/4 oz Johnson's Minnow Spoon(silver) with a little twin tail grub as a trailer and hang on. You can cover a lot of water and locate fish fast. It's an old lure, but still deadly and they absolutely destroy it. My best topwater bite ever came on this lure. Make sure to sharpen the hook and use 65lb braid. D.B.COOPER

Yea was just wondering if the silversides or shad were making a comeback? I hate to see all those 1st year class bass eaten as baitfish. maybe that inspection moola can go to restore the bait population? I realize biologist want the lake to run it's natural course but it could get ugly.

Well they have plenty of hiding space. Lion Killer says he's seen silver sides. I found out he doesn't lie.Rich hamilton wrote:Yea was just wondering if the silversides or shad were making a comeback? Re: Clear Lake North end
We were just up there about 2 weeks ago for the AC tourney and had 22 pounds. We were there a week ago at the same spot and had a sixty fish day. We were throwing wake baits on weed edges in low light and flpping senkos on edges and holes. All right around long tule point. Hope this helps.

Re: Clear Lake North end
The Baitfish verdict is in. I saw SOOOO many bait fish. More than I saw last year at this time. They arent huge yet but there were tons of em. Young Threadfin??? I have seen a few small schools of silversides too. saw the big threadfin schools in a few different areas and heard about other areas they have been seen too. Just look for the birds. They are back.
Re: Clear Lake North end
I have heard tale of puked up catfish fry in fishermen's livewells recently at Clear Lake. The variety of forage in that lake is amazing.

Johnny C,
That wasn't nice to remind Martino about "his" five pounder. At next year's rally he'll be pitching his frog inside the harbor!!!

Re: Clear Lake North end
We did some electrofishing around Redbud, Anderson and Rattlesnake first week of July and every spot we hit was loaded with bass fry from several days to a couple weeks old. Did our main "spring" e-fish in mid June and pretty much only got males up protecting beds with just a few clouds of fry here and there. The bait fish capture was fairly low both times, but I think it was probably more likely they weren't in the area we were fishing with all the aggressive males up shallow.
Most of the small fish your seeing are probably baby bass, but could also be sunfish or catfish.
