They are not the same lure. It's clear from the two photos, one over the other. At least to my somewhat trained eye.
I wish Bill would post the photos here, so it can be put to bed once and for all.
I'm sure Matt worked hard to make his lure, and Bill worked hard to make his lure.
Matt may have had the original idea for a full size soft plastic bluegill swim bait first (I have two for bed fishing), but the two lures are different, clearly.
Bill's isn't the first or the last to copy the idea.
But he didn't copy the lure.
Guys like Matt will always have a niche, boutique market for their specialty hand made lures. I hope he makes a ton of money for all the hard work he obviously puts into each lure.
Guys like Bill are geared toward the mass market. I don't think Bill wants to hand finish lures for sale.
Different strokes for different folks.
Not better or worse, just different.

They both look great to me. I already have one of Matt's. I'll probably use it this week, Finally getting out.

are you saying it doesn't look exactly like a 3/4 size matt gill?

I dunno biteme.... i think its more telling than the previous photo

but it is a prototype... I'm certain bill would at least consider some changes first to make sure he isn't creating a bait that is too close to Matt's

Biteme I did not say Bill molded my bait. Please do not make things up. What I said was that he had one of my baits scanned onto a computer. Like I have said before. Once the bait is scanned you have several 3D images of the bait. From there you can make changes. It is obvious he scaled the bait down to make it slightly smaller. I also said that the scan does not pick up the scales and those are cut into the mold afterwards. At least my own baits that I have had scanned did not pick up the scales. My scales were all hand carved and his were machine cut. After viewing these pictures I can see there are a couple very minor cosmetic changes.
So they take my bait scan it make a few minor changes to get a 10% difference. They are not stupid and they know as long as they change a bait by 10% they wont get into legal trouble.
Bill has never denied that my bait was scanned.
I aslo find it odd that it took soo long to get "his" pics up.
It is still obvious that Bill made no atempt at anything resembling an original design. The pictures definatly support that.
I have said all along he did not make a copy of a bluegill. He made a copy of my bluegill. Of all the bluegill baits on the market, only mine and bills require close inspection to tell them apart. Maybe I should just be flattered that he chose mine, but I am not.
Man I was soo done with the bickering but you keep it going.

Having nothing better to do than wait to go fishing and knowing about computers, I took these images and did vector outlines of them. I showed the original size, then after getting exact outlines I scaled them to be the same size then overlaid them. You guys decide.

You know this lake better than I do Bill. I'm going tonight at 11:00 p.m. and fish until 9:00 am Tuesday. We'll see... Heading south.

I have a Bait my Grandfather gave me from back in the 50's?. It's in the box and it's simply stamped "GOO GOO EYES". It's a jointed top water bait that has a squeak and knock to it.

I just wanted to reinforce your point Dan. I don't knew either of you personally, but I know who you are. You are embarrassing yourselves and not doing either one of your businesses any good.

Good luck to both of you in the future, seriously!

Sounds like a couple guys have been hitting the HATERAID pretty hard this week.

Bottom line is that if you don't like having your baits knocked off then stop producing them for the public. The history of the sport proves that this has, does and will continue to happen to EVERY bait that catches fish.

Sounds like you guys are the ones that need to get over yourself.

Will those without ANY faults cast the first stone.

There are people out being killed and you two are arguing about a darn fishing lure. Sounds like you guys need to go fishing a little more often

After reading these posts I will NEVER buy a Black Dog or Matt Lures bait. To stand up and actually point out a fellow angler for something that happens thousands of times a year is a joke.

Deal with this BS off-line like men and let the rest of us get back to fishing.

Yes the resemblance is amazing. Both these bluegill have bodies. eyes and fins. It just freaky.

I tried my crappie and bluegill swimbaits tonight. No hits on either one.

However I did catch fish on Mark Inman's Jigs with a Sweet Beaver trailer. I have to pull weeds off with my teeth and let me tell you... That Procure Craw might taste good to bass but it takes about 30 minutes to get that awful taste out of my mouth. Now I know what Clay Dreyer goes through.

Seriously has anyone ever tried Marie's Blue Cheese salad dressing as a scent?

MATT LURES , Great product. Bill, good luck, another great product.......seems to me if we don't get spin off's or copies/variations from one lure to another, we would still all be using; creme worms / Warden lures, lucky 13's poppers, sassy shad's etc. We would not have no Hud's, no Robo worms, no Sammy's, no Lucky crafts's and so on...................so why not enjoy the tackle/lure market we have to fich with and stop all the poking, shoving, bitching, complaining....just go out and get the lure you like and prefer and use it...............wow, what a great choice we have...........

only my (2) cents worth without caps.
