Had a nasty incident with a treble hook myself last Sunday... thankfully it wasn't in the hind end, but it was bad enough as it was.
I went out to DVL and threw a spook for quite some time in the morning for nada. Caught fish on everything else I threw after that, so was determined to get a spook fish before I headed off the lake. I got a couple of casts off, and about the third cast I had a blow-up and waited for it to load up. The fish was about 3 1/2 pounds and hooked really good, and I was using 65# braid, so when I got it next to the boat I lifted it up by the braid with my left hand and started to reach for its lip with my right... right about that time the fish thrashed and impaled my right ring finger with the Owner 3X near the middle of the first pad of the finger!
I sat in shock for a few seconds while what happened sunk in, and about that time my phone in my pocket rang. Couldn't get to it at the time, as I was still trying to determine what the heck I was going to do, then remembered that Hub Spinner was supposed to be on the lake and I hadn't heard from him yet.
I figured the first thing I had to do was get the fish off, as it was still pissed off and thrashing about, so was able to get the hooks out of his jaw and side of his face, then dug the phone out of my pocket. Gary had called, so I called him back and explained my predicament. He was across the lake from where I was, so I asked him to come and help do the braid removal procedure.
By that time, I noticed that the hook point had finally been driven through and I had a nice exit hole about 1/4" from the entrance hole, so I pushed it the rest of the way past the barb and grabbed my dikes (always keep a pair handy!), cut off the end and backed the hook out. Right about that point Gary pulled up and we had a little laugh about it!
Thanks Hub for coming to my aid, and thanks for not blasting me here on the forum with my stupid angler story!!! First time in all my years that I've been actually hooked.
