How do you know when you got bad gas

Took my boat out today and it just started to stall for reasons unknown when idling forward in low rpm's. The boat has sat for a month and the last two times I took it out was the FOCL events (putting around). Could it be bad gas or gas that has lost octane.

06 175 optimax. 1/2 tank of gas, oil fine, batteries fine, water pressure fine.

I was looking forward to fishing the Pudd event too. If any one needs a partner at Pudd let me know.

I would also pull a couple of plugs to see if they are fouled up

When you turn around , hang up the nosle and your partner says " you dident put that 100.00 dollars of deisel in the boat did you ? " Not that I would do anything like that
By the way I have about 35 gallons of weed killer for sale .
Any ideas on how a guy would dispose of " bad fuel " in the case a guy would do such a thing ?

That's what I would suggest, but I would add that you probably should make sure the other tank is dry before you put the new gas in it. Hope it isn't a serious issue..

If it was me I would go get some sti-bil or some sea foam and add it to the gas you have and then full up the tank with some new gas that should take care of the gas problem.

I think its allready braking down they say that gas now adays starts to brake down in weeks and to ALL ways use something to keep it fresh

also it maybe a good idea to take the plugs out and clean them

if its not mixed gas it shouldnt go bad. You may have fouled the plugs. a couple a high speed WOT runs will clear it. Or cleaning the plugs.

It was a broken spring somehow connected to the air intake or soemthing like that. So this broken spring was restricting air flow through the motor, causing it to stall and hiccup. It is a warranty issue luckily and it will be ready tommorow in time for the pudd event. I will eat some soft boiled eggs, raw onions, and drink a glass of whole milk to spread some love out there for all

The simple way to restore your gasoline, if for some reason water is in the gas or old gas is to add a fuel additive.
Take a look at http://www.priproducts.com/recmarine.htm
PRI-G works good and there are others available at RV stores.
Lots of reason why you may have fouled a plug, check the bottom cyclinder plugs on each side first, or simply change all 6 with new plugs and go fishing.

Hey DB,

The problem was a pretty stout spring that is used to hold up a belt connected to the air pump busted off, so the belt was flappin around in there and the engine was smart enough to shut itself off because of no air. No damage to the belt and it was a quick and easy fix.

My friend just had a similar problem with the Merc on his Champion. Marine guy said the problem was the throttle position sensor. Unfortunately not a cheap fix either. Just something to add to the potential problem list....
