Word in the Rumor mill is 63. But this is the fishing industry so who knows. Rick G.
Anglers Marine has been serving Southern California boaters and fishermen since 1981, with the West's largest bass fishing tackle store and the best boat dealership on the west coast.

Well, if that is close then those are darn good odds of winning a $150k prize package! Maybe this is the year I should have considered going Pro...Rick G wrote:Word in the Rumor mill is 63.

Oh, and last I checked with weather.com, looks like it is going to be pretty mild out there... temps are supposed to be under 100 at Henderson.

Re: anyone know the Open numbers
I don't know about 90's Roger.....it is pretty darn hot right now, and doesn't look like it will cool down in the next two weeks, but that is a ways away to predict.....I would expect 100 plus on the lake, it is always much hotter out there.....I will give you a few conditions as well.....the lake hasn't dropped as much in the last month, and the grass has grown in most coves......not too many fish shallow though, but there is a ton of bait in the grass.....stripers are scattered and pushing shad from coves to the middle of the lake, and visa-verse......water temp is in the mid to upper 80's and I have found the fish to be scattered, which is pretty typical for this time of year.....I'm not fishing the Open (work
) and haven't been on Mead more than once a week, when I go, I'm just messin around, so I am by no means a wealth of knowledge....good luck to all of you, should be very exciting!!

Re: anyone know the Open numbers
Brent, thanks much for the local info. I'm just going by what I saw on the weather site, and it looked like a slight "cooling trend" was on tap. I'm sure it is still going to be hot - usually is! Just might not be 115 degrees again like last year! 100 plus is doable for sure!
Can't wait to get up to your neck of the woods and get back on Mead - love that place!
Also, good to hear that the water level is fairly stable and that the grass is filling in... the reports I've seen are promising.
Sorry you aren't able to fish it this year - should be a good one!

Re: anyone know the Open numbers
Roger,
I know what you mean, I look at weather.com daily....but it is/was supposed to be dry and hot all week (this week), now this morning we have a good shot at some thunderstorms tonight and tomorrow....forecasting is the only job you need to be only 10% correct to be good......I want that job
.....bottom line, it will be hot, and the anglers will feel it.....a true test of endurance!! push this thing back one more week and I can fish it....one of these days, I hope!!! Don't hesitate to fire me a PM if you are coming this way, hopefully I can give you some recent info on conditions.....

Boy, isn't that the truth! Anyway, it wouldn't be Mead if it wasn't hot and testy!B Becker wrote:Roger,

I'll only be backseating, so I think I have enough to prepare between my previous experiences and the few goodies you mentioned above... I'm just ready - is it Wednesday yet?!?

Take care Brent!

Re: anyone know the Open numbers
I'm not gonna be able to fish it Roger, between the entry fees and trying to get 3 days off w/ out pay (no more vacation time) I would be pressing it although if I could pin some decent fish out there it would cover.... i gotta be sensible at this point.
I'll be down to buy you a beer at some point I'll give you a call.

OK - sorry you can't fish it... lots of great Pros to get matched up with this year. I understand though... I'll be tapping my vacation time myself.
Look forward to seeing you out there... we're staying at the Silverton for the duration again, so call me any time you're in the neighborhood.

Re: anyone know the Open numbers
If the Open was tomorrow, somebody else would win it. Launched from Callville about 5:30 and there were 3 bass rigs launching about the same time. Tom Matsunuga from Anglers Marine was right in front of me. About a dozen rigs in the parking lot. Park Service has "sorta" fixed the ramp and re-installed the courtesy dock. They are still working on the left side and have it blocked off.
Not too windy today...Temp maybe 110. Put 2 dinks and one almost legal size in the Skeeter for all day fishing. Rather discouraging...I feel clueless
Ran a milk run of several proven over time areas and found the bass scattered. Brent has it right. Very few fish shallow and those that are shallow are dinks. Water level is about what it was 3 weeks ago. Some of the weedbeds are topped out. A mixture of coontail and Sago pondweed
Saturday was windy 10 to 20 out of the SW. Took some friends striper fishing. After that window, I got on some exposed points in the lower basin, .throwing crankbaits and swimbaits, but the bass weren't there
I'd venture they are deep. I drop-shotted today from 20 to 35. I think I should be going deeper. The drop shot fish came out of a cut between rocks on a secondary point in about 40 ft. The rest of the time I was fishing primary points.Pulled a smallie(maybe 2#) up out of 50 ft following a CA swimbabe tiny E. I think the bass are traveling a lot. No rhyme or reason to their location except for the homebodies""
Ran to South Cove and as you might expect the water was muddy from Saturday nights storm. Visibility about 16". A lot less weed growth around the lower end of South Cove and the reef areas. The current was strong in the Narrows upstream of Temple Bar today
Seeing few bait balls on the graph and the arches I do see in 'bass" areas....those fish were suspended.

Re: anyone know the Open numbers
John no it does not but that is something that I'm going to do next year (money is alittle short right now to spend it on that right now) I do take it easy but the last time I was over they had the little dock there when I went out and when I came back it was gone and they had the back hoes and etc dumping fill in and they made me go on the side that looked like sh*t when I went out that morning and trust me when I say my motor was up and it still messed up my newlly B&B prop
I'm having my 25T-1 B&B from Mark right now and that is part of the reason I'm going over, is to get the boat dialed in right so I'm not looking for a ramp that I have to mess around on to much
Sounds like the other ramp will be better for me Las vegas wash I think is the name of it, I forget the name but I have never had a problem there
Echo also got a prop messed up last year for me that was the 1st time out after I got it back from Mark and he had just B&B it, Mead ramps just LOVES my Props

Re: anyone know the Open numbers
dont go to the wash on a weekend or bring a crate of snickers you arent goin anywhere for a long time.
I'd still go to calville and bump it off tie a rope launch it then walk it to the little pier. That or go to echo and do the same. Its eyegouging to wait and watch people attempt to launch on the weekends. At least you can sit and watch the wake boaters dump thier bilges and ballast into Mead.

Re: anyone know the Open numbers
The park Service contractor fixed the angle of the ramp at the load point so if you are trimmed up a bit it's OK to power load. I had to get my prop fixed twice! (the Prop Works in Las Vegas) They restored the courtesy dock so you can launch off a rope or drive off the trailer. Sunday, 4 bass rigs were launching simultaneously, but that is not the "normal pedestrians". Someone had sunk their inboard right at the ramp, but fortunately on the right side.
I'd launch at Callville before 6:00 AM .... taking out, expect maybe a 1 1/2 wait in line.
Echo is crowded, but less so. About 15 to 30 minute wait Weekends unless there is a ringer present. I think the fish sizes might be larger in that area anyway...Wind from the SW, I'd launch at Callville or Echo.
It's starting to feel a little like fall patterns - cooler in the mornings - even though temps are hot. Be prepared to go searching.
