ugly lookin bass
ugly lookin bass
what is going on with the fish in the river system right now.Every fish i catch that is over 3lbs is ugly and lookin like they are starving.Ive been fishing mostly in the franks tract area this year and all the fish have looked this way.I first thought they were just post spawners but im still catching them this way it seems to me that the spawners arent coming out of the shock of the spawn.Im a little concerned about the delta right now i also have noticed the lack of bluegills in the area.Is all this spraying for the weeds killing the food source for the bass or am i the only one catching these kind of bass i hope it is just me but i would sure like to see a healthy looking fish sometime this year

Re: ugly lookin bass
I would buy into the fact there has been a super late round of spawners this year due to the weather staying so damn cold all spring. But, I also have concerns about the lack of bait and, the overall management of the water system. I would love to see less spraying of veg and mesquitos, and I would love to see more patrolling by DFG and checking those igloos and licenses of the people anchored on the points and on tule lines raping the bait fish without regulation! I feel robbed when it comes to hyasin bloom this year, there isnt but a few good patches to speak of and the rest are so small or so shallow they useless. I understand they need to be controlled, but not eradicated. It all contributes to the big picture, Spraying, bag limits / poaching, tournaments, weather, and I hope it was just a late round of spawners cause I have also seen my share of pretty sick lookin fish as well this year.

I've been wondering about the skinny fish too. There was a lot of them at the Snag Proof that should have weighed a pound or two more than they did. Some of them may be late spawners but the ones I've been getting have perfect fins.No signs of spawning, just skinny.

Take a look at the link below. I guess this happens at a lot of lakes in the summer. I think they stayed on the Jenny Craig program too long after the spawn......trying to get there figure back...har!
Quinn Granfors (Kwin) has been studying the Bass at Diamond Valley Lake. I went out "shocking and counting" with him and DFG
He knows his "stuff".

If Bass Fishing was a drug . . . . . I would need rehab.

Re: ugly lookin bass
The problem is'nt a late spawn. It's the lack of shad in the system. the bait shops are haveing a hard time finding them and when they do there all small..... Don't know what happend to them but there just not there

Re: ugly lookin bass
fished a tourny at pedro on sat nite. me and my partner caught over 20 fish all night. the same thing they were long and starved looking. even fish schooling shad they were skinny too, caught a couple of bucketmouths that looked liked they havent ate since may. how long does it take after a fish is caught and released before it will feed again?

Re: ugly lookin bass
I was out two weeks ago with 2 other fishing buddies. Caught a couple of fish that i thought would have gone 6.5 to 7lbs. the scale hit 5.3 on one and the other 5.7..hummmmmmmmmm
well i guess it's because of all that current that keeps then trim.
but these fish looked healthy and ripped drag a few times. we all were usuing braid with locked down drag and a flipping stick.
these fish were damm good looking to. clean, no scars
Franks does have some funny things and funny fish. This spring my buddy got one that looked close to 8 - 9.5. but this fish had a wart the size of a tennis ball on it's tale. that fish was disgusting. the center of the wart was pink with a little opening for a worm.
i hear a lot of good things about franks but maybe frank's got problems now?
