Dobyns Rods situation
Dobyns Rods situation
My 703 broke on Saturday. Obviously a defect of some sort. It broke under the first guide while throwing a weightless Senko. I didn't even know it was broken until the Senko came back with the tip of the rod attached. So now what to do? Wait for the newer, improved models to come out or go replace it with a model off the dealer shelf? I bought it from Sportmans Warehouse. If the break is a defect in the rod does the dealer replace over the counter or is that the $50 charge? Would I be better off sending it in? With gas prices like they are, I want to get this figured out before I go driving around. Thanks for the info.

I work at a sporting goods store
We use to do over the counter exchange, the other day I saw a note that said rods had to be sent back to Dobyns rods

Gary Dobyns will stand by his rods.
You guys can send your rod in for a replacement and I am certain Gary will stand behind the rod 100% for any manufacturing defect. That said, I have seen his newest prototype rods and they are unbelievable! If I was you, I would send the broken rod in with a note asking to wait for the new designs for my replacement. It might take a few months, but I am sure you will be glad you waited.

~ I have been waiting since the end of Febuary. It ain't my rod anymore -- It is DeltaLuke's now....
Hopefully it will make an awesome Christmas presant for him.

You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

If you bought it from a dealer, it is the dealer's responibility to handle the warranty on the rod. With that said, if you can wait until the new models get here, you won't be sorry. Right now it is looking like a couple of months. We know it is an imposition, but Gary will stand behind all rods 100%. Should have more news right after he finish's the U.S. Open. He's out of pocket until then.

As per Gary's instructions on this in an earlier post email Sheri @ Lamiglas ( smeyer@lamiglas.com ) and she will take care of it-I had 2 break and once I talked with her I had them on the doorstep in 3 days. And yes Gary personally stood behind the rods and made sure I was taken care of-all they want you to do (man its hard to do too!) is cut the rod in about an 8" section just above the handle to above the logo and model # and send them that section showing the logo and model #. It was explained to me as a blank problem several other manufacturers are also expeiencing-the difference is all in how they will stand behind their products and Gary (and Lamiglas) did me right! Good Luck and Tight Lines-

That was the case but isn't the case anymore. All rods have been returned for credit. You can still return it to Sheri if you want, but you will get a credit for it until the new rods get here. That is also "as per Gary" as of yesterday. If you need the rod before the new rods get here, you will need to work with a dealer. Again, until we get this issue worked out, please bear with us. We will stand behind each and every rod sold. Thanks

I believe Sportsman's warehouse replaces them free of charge if they have the same rod in stock. I'd call to make sureNoCAL wrote:My 703 broke on Saturday. Obviously a defect of some sort. Re: Dobyns Rods situation
Just got an answer from Sherri at Lamiglas. I need to send the rod in and it will be replaced with a comparable model as soon as the new ones begin shipping..............around the first of the year! Sportsmans Warehouse is out of the 703 so I guess that rod is toast for this year. At least I'll have a new rod for spring!

Pretty much the same answer I told you. I figured since I work for them that made me a "we". Still just a fisherman trying to help another fisherman. Sheri is a very nice lady that is always willing to help, I just knew the answer and was trying to save a call is all.
