Re: Berryessa?
Rick,
Bit dated report but thought I would throw it out anyway.
I was on Berryessa a few weeks ago and it was slower than expected.
No reaction bite at all. Fished points and secondary points with plastics (drop shot and tx rig) in 15 to 25 feet and caught em'. We primarily fished the narrows.
Good luck

hearing rumors that the lake will be closed to all public use including fishing.

Re: Berryessa?
Hey Rick,
I would try the narrows going toward the Dam and hit the main points in the narrows, the cool thing about the narrows it has everything you want for summer fishing, steep drop offs so the fish do not have to travel far and chunk rock, pea rock and a good amount of lay downs, I would do some popper and sammy fishing before sun up and say 30 min after and than do some ripping with a lucky craft stacy 90 and than start going deep with yamamoto hulla grubs and 4-6 in worms drop shotted or split shotted. For poppers and any reaction baits I would use shad collors and for plastics watermellon candy or natural colors also.
Hey if the bass are not biting don't forget your rainbow power bait and #18 treble hooks on a mini carolina rig, I did this with my 4 year old son last week end and Del Valle and had a ball with trout, easy for kids to catch fish on bait:) I have caught alot of trout on rubber worms in Berryessa also:)
Good Luck!

Re: Berryessa?
If you are going to fish Berryessa this time of year you might want to go during the middle of the week to avoid the crouds . If you can't launch early and leve early. If you are looking into just getting on fish you cant beat a drop shot with a 4" worm in some shade of green or a carolina rigged baby brush hog also in green. Fish the top of the points and breaks in the morning in 10'-15' as the day moves on they will drop off into as much as 35'-40' off the edge of the breaks and the sides of the points. Now if you are looking into getting a little better fish and avoid the crouds head to the north east end of the lake. Set the boat just outside the weedline and let him drag the brush hog while you work a top water (Vixen or popper) over the grass. If they are not on the topwater try a spinnerbait or a Voo-Doo just over the grass. This has worked very well for me and my sons. Good luck.
