Berkley Big Bass Challenge comes to the Delta!

Post by AnglersPress »

BETHEL ISLAND, Ca. - The Berkley BIG BASS Challenge is coming to the California delta this fall, and will be an event that is sure to help us close out what has been a great year of fishing.

That’s right! This fall, October 18-19th, at Russo's Marina, you will have the chance to see if you can be one of the hundreds of anglers that will be lucky enough to catch a BIG delta bass and grab one of the five BIG fish CASH awards given away every hour - for six straight hours! This event will be a two-day affair, so if you don’t get a big fish on day one, you still have another day to get a big fish and your share of cash!

The Berkley Big Bass event, started three years ago in Texas and has become hugely popular, as it is hosted on Lake Fork, a lake well-known for its big bass. But western anglers know that it doesn’t get any better for “big bassâ€

Interesting that the "Hook" is sponsoring this event seeing as there is a "Hook" tournament going out of Russo's also that day(Sunday 19th)...thought the DFG permitted only one event per county per day on the delta? Something isn't right?

The Hook tournament has moved to October 12, still out of Russo's Marina.

I see that it is an individual entry, so is this a draw event like a Federation event? or is it single person per boat?

Thanks,
Randy

Form what I understand you can fish it solo or you can bring a fishing buddy along but it's a man on man event. Not a draw. Vince might come back with more info soon.

This event will be held in an individual format. Meaning you enter as an individual, paying your own entry fee. No draws, Pros vs Ams, or teams.

It's every man (or woman) for themselves, making a run at the hourly cash, and the $10 g's!

If anyone has any questions please don't hesitate to call me ANYTIME.

This event is going to be alot of fun and good for everyone. AND...If it fairs well...Berkley may want to make it an annual event like they do in Texas - where boats are given away every hour for the big fish!

Hope to see you all there.

Looks like the October tournament for The Hook will be moving again as the Oct. 12th date also has a conflict. As soon as Gene has more info we'll share it with all here.

The Hook tournament has been changed to October 5th.
Vince and I worked on the dates together I have always been willing to move any of my tournaments if it is good for the sport and Berkley has always been there for us. When I moved it to the 12th there was no mention to the top 6 on the same day and it wasn't in the calender I found out a week later so I have moved it to the 5th hope this doesn't mess anybody up.

Do you come in each hour to weigh in or only at the end of the 6 hours?

If you have a big bass that you think may big big enough to grab one of the five checks given out each hour for the five biggest bass - you can weigh it in during any of the 6 daily weigh-in periods.

It will automatically be placed in the OVERALL big fish pool, and if it holds up for the two days of the event as the Biggest OVERALL bass you will win $10,000 cash! 2nd overall wins $2,500, and 3rd oveall wins $1,000.

You can then continue to fish with the hopes of upgrading your overall big fish pool weight, and getting closer to taking home the 10 G's - just two months before Christmas!

This will be a fun fall event on the delta.

Does this mean that you can weigh in a different big fish each hour if you catch them or is it just one weighin per fisherman?

I have fished these before in AZ they are a bunch of fun. You weigh in a new big fish every hour. You weigh in your fish and take off then at the end of the day you find out if you won any of the hours and/or are the current big fish of the entire day so on and so forth.

Just curious. Why does the flyer say 10K, 2500,1000 and the official rules say 10K, 3000, and 1000? $500 missing on the flyer.

The 2nd place OVERALL big fish prize is $2,500 as stated on the flyer (sorry about the typo).

Every participant enters as an individual. You can be the boater, non-boater or whatever. You can even have three in a boat - it doesn't matter.

Every angler that enters will only be allowed to weigh in one fish each hour, in hopes of winning one of the hourly big fish cash prizes.

The whole idea behind this event is for everybody to have fun to catch the biggest fish they can on the Delta using Berkley baits.

Anymore questions...please let me know.
