Bait Casting Reel/ rod combo

Post by underwaterparadise »

What is the best all around combo for around $300. I used to have the older model Curado so I'm looking for something that compares.

Thanks

Try the new Curado E-7 and Crucial Rod. Your looking at about 300
for the pair, or you could opt for the new Clarus Rod and be at $260.00. Lifetime over the counter warranty on the new Clarus.
Either way you won't be disappointed.

Yeah I would go with the new currado e-7 and a powel 734. Best all around rod and reel set up I think thats in that price range, or any range for that matter.

6'6" or 7' Rod? I have a decent 7' Lighting Rod and Mitchell reel I use for pitching or throwin senko's. And a cheap 6' Rhino I use for a back up.

I like to use my bait casters for Spinners, buzz baits and jerk baits.

Well I went with the Curado 300 and a Shimano Compre rod. The rod is a little small for this big reel but I will get a lil bigger rod down the road.

Thanks for suggestions (what little there were hahahaha)

$300 is right about where a good combo starts. Always tough to decide to spend the money on the rod or the reel. It depends on what you really want to do with the setup. If you are flipping or something where sensitivity is paramount then spend the money on the rod (Loomis BCR 874 is my fav),(Revo S reel). A rod you would say go crankin with can be less sensitive($$$) and I would spend the money on the reel for the casting aspect(Quantum Tour Edition reels cast like champs). The new Curados look really cool, a vast improvement it appears over the last run. As mentioned above the clarus rods are a great value and the shimano warranty can be nice. I have heard the the Crucial rods can be fragile but that they rock. Not all retailers do over the counter on them so look into that aspect before your purchase. Loomis still has the best warranty in the business, but you pay for it. Just my .02.

Thanks. I really wanted it for all around fishing but mostly I will use it for Spinnerbaits and Crank Baits. I'm still not skilled enough to pitch with it so I use a 7' spinning rod and reel for that.

The rod and reel were on sale so I think I got out the door for $240+ tax. Sportsmens warehouse was cheaper then Cabela's. I all most went for a G Loomis but my wife gave me a crazy look when she seen the price tag
