Gabe was injured in an accident up here at the FLW Series today.....I guess both he and Co angler were thrown from the boat and I haven't heard how they are doing.......I heard rumors of broken bones.........thought you guys would like to know and if someone finds out maybe post an update?

Fishing was slow for this area.....slick water...high sun and little to no current .......not the best conditions.

I also wish the best for them .....

This River is pretty treacherous .....it goes to show you that even the best are vulnerable to those big Rocks...

Our prayers go out to Gabe, his family and his co-angler.

Michael Bennett was injured before the tournament, and is also in the prayer book for a speedy recovery.

You guys rock, and we all wish you well.

God Bless,
James

Mike slipped in the shower and hit his face on a granite counter and broke his cheekbone and has a few stitches. RJ said he probably won't need surgury. He drove home on Monday and is back in Roseville.

Hope Gabe is ok

I heard at the weigh in that they were both ejected....the motor was torn from the boat.....and that there were some broken bones......and it happened down by Crowe Butte 60 or more miles by water from Kennewick. ( which is a lot of shallow Rock out in the middle of the river that is not obvious to see without map study ......I don't know about the new GPS maps)

Just talked to Gabe and brought CO up the ramp after weigh-in. No broken bones for either. Prop threw a blade without any impact. Gabe was sore but still talking about fishing tomorrow.

How do you and what does threw a blade mean? Is this a total freak thing that could happen to any of us or what? I can understand a rock deal, but getting thrown for no reason is new to me. Can someone explain? any further details?

Woohoo, good news. Alive and able to recover is excellent. Who is Gabe? Glad he's okay.

Mike it was not a Z520 thing. Gabe threw a blade on the prop that took out his gear case, when you basically lose a gear case you have no rudder, no control, and boat hooks and it doesn't matter what decal it has on it's side. I heard that he didn't hit anything the blade let go and yes this can happen to anyone.Heard Gabe was shook up pretty bad and pretty sore and will be much worse tomorrow I am sure but at least he and his partner are ok and will fish another day Gabe. Probably messed up the pretty boys hair pretty good all that river water in it.......nothing a trip to the salon won't fix Gabe    Glad someone was looking out for you today buddy couldn't handle not having you around to pick on......you are way too easy!!!!kb

I threw a blade there last year. Luckily it dod not impact the lower unit.

Tonkakid - If a prop gets damaged or has a manufacturing defect it can case a blade to fly off. It usually happens under hard excelleration or at high speed. If the trown blade impacts the lower unit it can cause a lot of damage. If it doesn't it just causes a bad vibration and can bend the prop shaft.

That is one spooky pond to fish. I wish Gabe and Mikey speedy recoveries and hope this is the llast of the bad new from Columbia River.

I lost a blade off my prop at the Clear Lake Pro Am the first day. It came off and I did not even know it until I came off plane and the motor had a bad vibration.

I was doing near 70 when it came off on a long run north.

The blade nicked the cavation plate then took a chunk out of the lower fiberglass case on my motor.

Upon closer inspection the other blade was cracked as well.

lots of us throw blades and have nothing like that happen. Good buddy of mine threw a blade and drove home on 2 averaging about 65. He runs 90+ in his 250xs 20Xd bullet.

We throw Trophies all the time, because we surface them and noone hooks.

I'd take a serious look at the case.

Has anyone read the article on Gabe's accident on BassFan? I don't understand why he would hit his head on the passenger side gunnel if the boat made a sharp left turn. BTW is this common on outboard propelled boats? I know it happens on jet and v-drives, but there are devices available to prevent it for those drives.
