West Coast Bass is back, Go Lary

Post by russ@russmeyer1.com »

Finally we are going to get something Great to fish.I have enjoyed fishing all events out here. But the one I am looking forward to the most is the New WEST COAST BASS TOUR. I have seen it before and what I most remember about the circuit is how professionally it was run. This guy knows how to put on a event for the fisherman and their sponsors. You know ,I can remember going to sign ups and holding up a empty bag and by the time you got to the end of the line your bag was full of new products (free)from the sponsors. Then go to a Free barbecue put on by local sponsors at the local boat or tackle dealer. Then sharing information telling stories and or Lie's about how fish went. Some of us talked maybe to much like me but that was others win maybe my loss and I learned a lot but it was part of the fun.. I was so excited after that I could hardly sleep the night before the tournament started..You know this was the kind of stuff that got all of us into the sport. Some of the most memorable experiences I have ever had were from pre fish and the barbecue's.You could count on awesome Championships (Classics ). I still have all the Jackets and hats that were free.If you ever have a chance to fish one of Lary Viviano pro Am's you won't forget them they are the best (WHICH BY THE WAY HE WAS THE ORIGINATOR OF THE PRO-AM CONCEPT.) I hope to see everyone who loves to bass fish there ,supporting one of the best guy's and director you'll ever meet and the best tournament ever. Tight line's Russ Meyer

You know i have heard nothing but good stuff about this circuit , even though it was way before my time . Now that is is coming back i cant wait to fish it and be a part of something good for tournament bass fishing !!
I hope everyone takes a serious look at this circuit and decides to fish it , im sure it will be great from what i have been told of the past events , it seems like this circuit brought fishermen togeather not separated them like some are trying to do .
Im also curious to see how the offlimits works out , i have always wanted an offlimits in the local circuits even though i have taken some criticism from some over it , now i will see first hand how it works out when i fish these events .
I know by talking to a bunch of "working guys" like myself that want to fish and be competitive they just dont want to go up against the guys who are camped out at the lake the week befroe the tourney , they cant afford it . I know for sure with this offlimits the week of the tourney the fish will be way less pressured and so everyone will have a better chance at winning , i know i like to catch a bunch of fish and feel i have a shot at winning .
Im just pumped up about this circuit and finally getting to be a part of it is great !!! :)

Hey Russ, do you remember that West Coast bass tournament on the delta the fall of 99? It was the "Shimano Corsair Classic". That was my very first pro am event I fished and you were my first day draw! I remember that day clearly, especially that big ole bass I lost in the bamboo thicket while fishing that slough off the deep water channel. I vowed never to pitch plastics into heavy cover like that with 15lb mono again...ha ha.

Hope Larry gets this circuit off the ground. It's tough with the economy and saturation of trails out there. Time will tell.

Russ,
You and so many others have had such great things to say about WestCoast, that its almost too much to wait for the new season to start.

Being that it WAS good, and is surely gonna BE good again, what happened that caused Larry to close shop before? As a guy who came just after the end, i never got to experience the "good ol' days". (not trying to stir anything, it thats the case, just truly wonder why such an org. had to close shop for a while).

WON Bass and the old Bassmasters have all my starting memories. I still like fishing WON, so i will surely be doing them again this year, but i look forward to also trying out WestCoast.

Hi long I do remember that, I think it was near fourteen mile slough . Not totally clear. My memory is getting older.

I'm in. I remember growing up around my uncle Larry Newby who fished that circuit way back when. He still has all his trophies covering a wall in his garage. It would be neat to get him out fishin again, but I'll definitely be there.

I think a few sponsors had a little to much control and took the fun out of it ultimately spoiling a great thing. Unfortunately we all didn't know how good we had it until it was gone. Looks like we all get another chance.I think west coast bass learned a lot from it as well. It should make them even better is my guess.

Will WCB offer a FPT ? Like the days of old? I fished em with Gary Watts back in the day the tournaments were ran by Kent Brown and Vince Harris the FPT part of it anyway. If they do those will be some big shoes to fill Ranger Boats shoes at that LOL LOL

DOM,
I don't believe they are even going to go after the team tournamnets , which they were big for back in the day. I believe Larry is going after Pro-Am style only; at least in 2009.

Just my observation only

I'm sure he is only doing pro AMs for now. Who knows what the future will bring.
