Lake Casitas
Is it true that Lake Casitas is getting blue stoned this week. If it is true, that would be a crappy thing to do three days before the last A/C night tournament. It would be especially bad considering A/C paid the lake for the right to hold the night tournaments there. You would think that they could at least wait until next week if this is true.

If it is a fact I doubt I will want to lay money on the line. I'm going to be at the lake tomorrow evening and will look into it.

No one I talked to knew anything but I didn't get past the front gate after my inspection. Blue stone is...Naw ...I'll let Old School or somebody answer as I don't want to get nit picked for explaining the process wrong...

They drop chemicals in the lake and it usually corresponds to really crappy fishing for a while.

I will give it a try:
Bluestoning is actually "Copper Sulfate". It is ued to kill most aquatic algaes and moss. In its old form it actually looks like bluish crushed rock hence the name "bluestone".
Many water districts use it in their lakes when aquatic growth becomes a maintenance or water treatment problem.
If done "properly" it does not adversely affect aquatic animals
Although, in my experience, it definitely screws up the fishing for a few days (no proof on this, just observation).
If done at the wrong time and place it can produce a die off.
In the 50's we used to use"copper sulfate" to treat swimming pools with black algae because chlorine would not affect black algae. I think they use other chemicals today.
Somebody like Dave Wilson might be able to add more info but I think that is the basics of it.

Re: Lake Casitas
Blue stone is a trade name for Copper Sulfate. Copper Sulfate is usually available in monohydrate and pentahydrate forms and is blue in color. Lake Casitas hasn't been "stoned" in years, although some of the fishermen..................well. Recreation at the gate won't know- call the main office, they'll have any info.
Re: Lake Casitas
Google Copper Sulfate , Can be real nasty stuff if over done . The lagoon has fallin victem a time or two .

Well, Ranger Rob says "no blue stoning" by this weekend for the night tournament
. Hopefully we'll go yet another year without! Best of luck to all.

Where did the algae go ???? Was up there today and it's gone. Caught 11 today 1.5lbs - 3.5lbs all on DD-14's .Dave Wilson wrote:Blue stone is a trade name for Copper Sulfate. Was there yesterday , was a little cleaner but noticed some green scum around the rental docks. Thinking its that time when it just starts to die off. Less grass on arrow but was also getting torn up by the coots. I think a guy could take about a dozen out with one wide open pass .
Water has cooled to 73 last couple weeks , maybe that has a little to do with it . Your thoughts Mr. Dave Wilson ?
Had less fish but best five still ended up with about 22 to 23 LBS. with the help of my boy .

I've been havin pretty ogood luck with the DD 14 & 22. Was there today, and came out with a few between 2 & 4 lbs. Howexer. I was at some coves at the outside points, and saw some big fish on the graph, but couldn't get them to hit on anything..Byron wrote:Where did the algae go ???? Was up there today and it's gone. Re: Lake Casitas
Most of todays fish were caught on outside points. All fish came from the west shore/lookout point area and willow creek in around 20 feet.
