When I was a boater...I'd have 15-17 rods in the boat with 6-8 on the deck.

Now fishin non boater, I bring anywhere from 6-10 rods and toss what doesn't get used in their rod locker.

Poor Luke. Your wife is right. I can see Luke when he's out with you, huddled up in a little corner hoping not to step on anything ;-)

Well... If I had a deck it would currently be 7 rods. 5 Dobyns, 1 Steve's Custom Jig Rod and 1 Okuma Swimbait.

Since I don't have a deck and I'm usually trying to cram all my rods in that little slot to the left of the passenger seat, I usually end up bringing less. A lot depends on the size of the boat I happen to be backseating that day.

ON deck, ugh depends on how poorly I am doing. The more dialed in or committed I get its 3-4 rods now as the day progresses and its a bad day or a tough to focus a pattern 10

But I gots about 15 in the rod locker.

Last time out on the Delta I had 3-4 rods on deck

Frog,
Senko,
Buzzbait
WakeBait - came out later in the day.
- JaJa Jigs - Get THUNKED

Dan;
I used to own a 21 ft Triton Bass boat. you could dance on the deck is was so big; with that said, In my 374V Ranger, I still only have maybe at one time only 3 rods on deck; one to use and two to step on (break)!!!. All depends on time of year and conditions/ Sometimes at Mc clure, you know that all you are going toi throw all day is a spinning rod, so 2 rods will do.....One to fish with and one to step on.Sometimes you need more rods to step on: Other wise lift up the rod bos if it is not to heavy, and get another rod or rig a different rod; takes minutes !!

5 rods.
if you can not get it done with 2 or 3 at most you are not fishing a good pattern.
Once I get a good fish in the 4-5 pound range I have to figure that most of the fish that size are doing the same thing in the delta.

Fish that pattern hard and normaly a good bag follows.

If I start throwing all kinds of stuff, (junk fishing) at days end I wonder how many fish I could have gotten if I had kept the bait wet that actualy caught fish.
just shut up and fish

I take to many. I have a bassmaster rod for senkos that is the most sensitive rid I've ever used. They don't make them anymore, Medium heavy, fast action. I have a shimano clarus nearly equal to it rigged wacky senkos or with a frog. Two jig rods - Shimano Clarus heavy - extra fast. and a couple berkley lightning rods for cranking and spinners that never get used.

Fishing from the back, I usually have way too many..Most of the time around 8, plus or minus 2..Seems like I always end up using only 4 of them though..

For me, when fishing from the front deck, it depends on where I'm fishing and the conditions. If there's a discernable pattern I'll usually have 5 or 6, but if it's truly junk fishing I could have 10 or more.

When fishing as an Am on the back deck, I limit myself to 6 or less, usually trying to keep it to 4 or 5. I don't want to limit my options, but too many is too hard to manage. I try to rely on the Pro to give good guidance on the style of fishing for the day, and then bring along a couple to compliment that style, along with the typical dropshot, Senko and jig gear.

Most of the time six. The rest stay in the locker. When I had my 520 I would have maybe ten. But with the smaller boat I had to cut down.

I tend to clean up as I go. Sometimes I'll have three rods up but usually not more then that. I've got clumsy feet and if I get too many rods out I'm sure to step on something I didn't want to. Last time it wasn't a rod but a crankbait and I spent and ungodly amount of time trying to get the trebles out my shoe and yes, my foot.

Fishing out of a 14' Aluminum I can't have 10 rods laying all over the place. With no storage at all, everything I bring has to be on deck. It's usually 3-4 rods.

6' 6" Medium action Spinning rod.
6' 6" Light action Spinning rod
6' 6" MH casting rod
7' 11" Swimbait rod.

Can you tell I like 6' 6" rods? I even flip and pitch with a 6' 6". The swimbait rod being a one piece does get in the way sometimes so if any rods get left behind it's that one. Whether I bring that rod depends on where I am going and who I'm fishing with.

I don't have a deck but I run with 6 when I'm in the tube. I have a pic, but don't know how to include it.

It's usually jig, senko/ worm, crankbait and I'll rotate the other 3 depending on time of year.

Jigs,

It's not a matter of not knowing how to retie. In this day and age there are rods being built for very specific uses. And we have more uses then ever before.

I retie all the time... very, very often in the course of the day for derby days.

However, given the different types of baits I'll throw, anything from finesse dropshot baits, cranks, jigs, frogs, spooks, poppers, small swimbaits, to the 12" Orso, they all require different rods and line to be most effective.

If you've got it narrowed down to one or two rods that will do all that, I'd love to spend time with you, my new master sensi!

Usually 6 rods loaded and ready but only 2 on the deck. Usually a swimbait, topwater spook, topwater buzz, jig, 2 crankbaits/chatterbait. Sometimes one less crank and one more swimbait. That pretty much covers my sections of the river well.

The days of the general all purpose rod is pretty much gone..At least for those that are seriously into bass fishing..You could play a round of golf with only one club, but chances are most people will do better with more of a selection of clubs..Now in my case, it wouldn't make a bit of difference..I can shoot an 89 on any hole on the course..

If I am not doing well its 10-15 rods with everything under sun tied on. If I am doing good its 5 rods with the same thing tied on all of them. Pre-fish the deck looks like a buffet.

After kicking many off the deck in my 40 years, and stepping on a few and breaking a few..........if i am doing well, then one rods is all I need on deck. If I am not doing well, then maybe 2 or 3 on deck. I still no how to retie a bait and it really does not take that long. I figure like for instance a Dobyns 734c does more than one job so I can try different baits on that rod etc.. Makes sense to me.....The cost of rods now days warrants me to do it this way. And thanks to guys and manufacturers like Gary, they put on the rod all the types of baits and fishing that the rod will handle !

2-3 on the deck, if i aint using them there in the locker. I have stepped on too many eyes of my rods to keep 8-10 rods on the deck.

In a 14ft jon over here, usually 2 to a boat lol. And to top it off we're both usually chucking swimbaits at least 1/2 the time (took my first hook to the calf 2 weeks ago).

usually its:
7'11" big swimbait rod
7'11" small/med swimbait rod
7' pitchin/flippin/frog rod
switch between a 6'9 MH or a 7' spinning.
Occasionally I will bring along a UL rod cuz i cant get enough of the panfish while chasing bruisers for some reason.

Have you hit eachother trying to cast? I can't imagine two guys with nearly 8 foot rods chucking giant baits at the same time. Luckily my buddy that I fish with the majority of the time doesn't even fish swimbaits.

Not until a couple of weeks ago when the guy in front swung back too far and buried a #4 Daiichi (from the 9" R2S kong swimbait) into my calf. That was fun to get out.
We've been doing it for a couple of years now so its been a pretty good system so far. Hell, we used to fish swimbaits 3 to a 14ft at one point - that ended real quick!

I've had 3 people fishing out of my 14 footer with just regular gear and it was not that fun. I can't even imagine 3 people chucking swimbait on my boat. That's just asking for someone to get hooked! Knowing my luck it would be me.

I do love my little boat though. It's just so easy to deal with compared to a big boat and super easy to launch solo.

Well I figure I can retie a hook, unless its dark, in 20 seconds or less. So it is far worth it to me to retie, than kick a rod over the deck, which I have done, or step on a rod or two, which I also have done.. So I have lures on deck, not rods..Just makes sense to me.

Again my .02 only

My standard quote to myself as I pull out yet another rod
"What this deck needs is another rod"...

Though I try to keep it down to 6-7 on the deck at a time..
3 flipping sticks.. (2 jigs, 1 plastic)
2 medium heavy rods (buzz baits / spinner baits etc)
2 medium action for top water / cranks..
Any old seven pounder will make my day better...
