Trouble with Lowrance Electronics

Post by reellittlephish »

Yesterday I got the LCX 26C-HD back from the Lowrance repair facility. and it still has the problem I sent it in for. Locks up at the first screen and never goes to map. Can't be turned off except by switching off main power at the console.

So this is the fourth time I have sent this unit back to Lowrance since January 2008. Once they replaced the unit with a new one.

Now GPS antennas....I replaced 3 of them (LCG2000 models) since January 2008. Lowrance support even admitted they had a problem with a bad batch. Each time their turnover to shipment was about 2 weeks.

I went out and bought a LCX 28C-HD. Put it in the Skeeter. Runs fine. I ordered a set of converter cables to connect the LCG 3000 GPS to my LCG 2000 network. I am back-ordered till who knows??? Been about 2 weeks and counting....

Just the facts....

Anyone else have problems like this. I figure I am not the only one.

If so,. Lowrance and their new parent Navico needs to know

Never has a SINGLE problem. Could be the rigging?

Sounds interesting.

+1

Something has to be screwy, given that you've had a replacement do the same thing.

I'm running two LCG-2000 antennas on my boat now, and have never had an antenna problem either. There was a firmware release for them some time back that was required for proper operation, so you have to make sure you apply the updates as they are released.

I have an LCX-18C on mine, and the GPS antenna has never given me any issues at all.

an issue with the GPS antenna. Had to replace the one for my LCX-38. The new antenna need continual 12v for better satellite connectivity.

Linda will take care of you.

Thanks Mark for that address. As far as the LCX issues go, thanks everyone for the comments. This early spring, I had the network and wiring apart and tested with a multi-meter. When I could find nothing, I asked Marcus at Las Vegas Marine to go through it. He found nothing. This Skeeter was rigged at the Skeeter factory in Kilgore, TX. That gives me some level of confidence it was done correctly.

We took the Skeeter out of Echo Bay mid September and my partner, Julie, got the LCX26C to boot up by rapping the unit with her hand! It would turn on, but not go to the maps page. The launch before that we got it to boot up with a hard reset. The evening before we were leaving for AZ, It just wouldn't get past the entry Lowrance Logo page.

The next morning, September 27th I bought a LCX 28C-HD and rigged it in the Bass Pro Shops parking lot the day I was leaving for Havasu/Topock Gorge. Right after a clean and dry period, I took it to Powell for a week. I worked fine first time and so far continues to work.

The antenna (LCG2000) is powered independently, not through the console LCX which is rigged to the main power switch. It is part of a 2000 network. NMEA temp gauge, is the only other sensing device. The LMS 520C at the bow is connected to the LCG 2000 network. I can turn on the bow LMS 520C sonar without turning on the main power switch...The latest LCG 2000 antenna has worked for 7 months.

The LCX 28C came with a LCG3000 antenna. I pulled the cable through the hull and now am now running a LCG 2000 antenna for the bow sonar and the 3000 for the console LCX 28C. Until I get an adapter cable, this set up is working.

I am glad to hear those who responded have had good service from their Lowrance units. I ran a LCX 15MT and an X135 for 4 years with no problems. Maybe all my recent breakdowns are just an statistical anomaly....

If the new LCX 28C goes down then I will again look for electronic gremlins in the Skeeters rigging.

Truthfully the new LCX28C(with a hull transducer) and the bow mounted LMS 520 (TM mounted transducer) with update are running and operating better that the previous setup which had a lot of sonar interference below 30 ft.

Actually, the subject of my post had to do with the level of service and quality....This morning after sending a firm email to Lowrance service on Sunday , I got an unsigned response telling me my LCX26 unit had been shipped and I should be receiving it on October 7th. Not addressing my issues at all....
