What's your PB Crank fish???

Post by Kelly Ripa »

Non-trout bait type lure....I caught mine this Saturday on a Lucky craft crank that has been my favorite this year....under 10 pound fish still nice but I don't seem to catch very many of my big big fish on cranks. True, the reaction fish are usually my better fish but in my top 5 until saturday they were either swimbait or plastics fish. I had an 8 at Clear Lake at the nutcase event a few years back but it seems like the lowly worm time and again gets me my best fish of the year. I had a 9 in January the week before the HBC and thought it was going to curse me for the rest of the year as I just have'nt had a stellar year and wham! I guess the dark skies and rain are my freind as both of these fish were caught in cloudy and rain conditions.

Rip

P.S. I lost the lure to a tree and went back and ran my rod up it and it was hanging on a guide ...retied fished for 20 more minutes **snap** it sails up onto the bank...beached the boat and found it 10 minutes later in a bush.....Darn thing just doesn't want to stay in my aresenal anymore and from what I can tell they don't make it anymore  ....Have to start fish'n it on 20 pound I guess

I have caught 3 fish over 10 on cranks. They were all from Hodges on a fat free shad.
Biggest was 11 pounds 6 oz.
Big fish just inhale a crank when they want it.

If you believe Ray Easly; 21 lbs 3 oz Casitas lake record was on a Rebel Deep R crank bait ( live bluegill color).
Caught a few big bass in the 15 lb+ range on a custom 8" Bagley Bang-O at Castaic, Casitas and Isabella over the years, that today you might call that lure a "hard" swimbait. Several 10+ on the old Poe's ghost cedar 300 series, good big bass lure for those who still have them. Today the Norman DD22 seems to be working for a double digit bass on occasion.
Tom
PS; there is photo in an old In-Fisherman article of the 15+ and Bang O lure if intersted, PM me with your e mail.

My PB is an 11 lb on a Rapala Extreme RAP jerk bait. The crapper is my girlfriend got a 9 pounder on a Norman DD 14 a few weeks ago at Casitas. Her second fish of her life. Go figure..
