So what else do you do?

Post by Chaozu »

We all love to fish obviously. I was just curious to see what you guys do other than fish. Do you have other hobbies? Have kids? Lose a leg in Nam? I know there's some talent here other than fishing. I pretty much work full time and take care of my 3 year old daughter. Pretty boring on this side. But what do you guys do?

Well I have two kids a girl 16 next week and a boy who just turned 12, I work for a big poultry company in the central valley and raise about 1 million turkeys a year for them, hence the name Turkeyman. Other than fishing there is my wife and kids and hunting.

Before I got married and bought a house I was at the bowling alley at least 4 nights a week. Then my father in law to be took me out fishing, something I grew up with but had been away from for sometime. Well I can't thank him enough for lighting this flame back up with a flame thrower!
Well as many of you know the cost of decent rig and something to pull it with and then those rods, reels and all the goodies to go with adds up fast. Had to drop the bowling as I have to live within my means(something many of you democrats should look into  ).
My wife and I are also blessed with a little 3 year old girl and with a 50 year old house to boot, ALL of my time besides work is taking care of them, so when I can get on the water, all my chores are done!
I had to come back...I know...

I am a fireman so I usually get to fish during the week :D

Married with 12 y/o son who sort of likes fishing & a 6 y/o daughter who likes short (!) boat trips. Both kids play soccer so Sat are busy for a while.

Used to race cars (Honda Civic's) on road courses (Thunderhill, Infineon, etc). Got out of it after 6 years. Did fairly well racing endurance races. Just way too much time & money on a hobby the rest of the family wasn't in to.

Call coyotes, and blast groundsquirrels to smithereens. :D

Lately, have been revisiting my BMX days and trying to piece together a race bike I had in 82/83. One bike I had in 79/80 was released again as a retro classic!

Also enjoy site clearing, demo, and concrete removal with my Bobcat. The new one is real nice with a cab an A/C. Spend more weekends in that than the boat. To be honest its easier to "get a check" in the loader, than prefishing and trying to beat Gary Dobyns. (Which ain't gonna happen.)

Other hobby is trying write something decent about fishing.

Emergency room RN (good profession for fishing)
Adjunct professor at Canada College (summer class only)
Work with a plastic surgeon doing face lifts (my most enjoyable job)
Play basketball 3-4 times per week
14 year old daughter plays volleyball so I allot time for that as well.
Occasionally get my rear handed to me on various lakes and river systems in northern California fishing bass tournaments.
I would rather jog home from my own Vasectomy than spend Saturday at the mall.

Of course, my most important 'hobby' is my wife!

I am out of a job theses days (construction) Many years of Drywall.
Need to change jobs for sure. I don't speak Spanish. I don't know what am going to do yet. Anyone got a fun job for a man of 45 yeas old? Maybe samples at Costco :? .
I did lots of things through the years, fishing was always in the mix of any hobby. I just fish now. Watch my son (age 22) play a football game now and then, he plays for Merced. His twin sister is still trying to just stay clean and at home again.
Once a year play a paintball game with my brother. Talk fishing with some of you and even go fishing with some of you.
Most of all I like to spend time with my best friend (my Wife).

Don.

PS I would like to get a few of us to do some bowling some time. Even if it was once a year. It would be a fun way for all of us to BS and laugh on the same boat  I would have to dust off the Hammer and Nail

I put together a Southern Nutcase Classic bowling event this year, and I'll try to do the same up North once I get settled in... good recreation during the Winter, and should probably be able to draw several of the Northern Nutcases out to the lanes for fun and laughts.

That all sounds great guys. Your responses were exactly what I wanted to hear. Anyone play drums or any musical instruments? I love me some drums, great stress reliever when not fishing. I used to punch a punching bag like it was my mother in law but hurt my hands too many times. It's hard to grip a pole when your hand is the size of a softball! Neighbors dont like the drums nearly as much as I do but but I'm sure they'll come around, or call the cops again!

Guys, the point of this was to try to make you view people as PEOPLE. Not just a screen name. Stop getting your panties in a bunch all the time and let it go. It's a public forum. Who cares what someone wrote unless you know that individual personally. When your friends or family gets hurt you care, but when it's a stranger, who cares? I dont know them. So let's ALL be friends and stop the BS. Cant we all just get a bong, I mean long :D

I have a 25 year old son (PGE) 23 year old daughter (cosmetologist) and 11 year old son (Call of Duty 4 expert) and soon to add another 18 and 16 year old son and daughter. I work as a Union Electrician (22 years) and run swimbaitcity. My hobbies are collecting old fishing lures and various other collectibles. I love to hunt and go to the range and shoot my pistols and long rifles. I am a member of the 1000 yard club in the light gun class so there is no deer safe when I am on the hunt. I love to hunt with my Grizley 70 lb compound bow and of course I love to hunt giant bass as well as giant stripers. In my spare time I sleep and am trying to upgrade my house

Been senior electronics tech at a semiconductor plant (Adema Technologies) for 11 years, fixing these wild machines that grow silicon crystals for solar panels.
I have ADHD with the emphasis on "HYPERACTIVITY", so here goes..
Fish for just about everything in the state, hunt most everything, ride a quad, play the drums, bicycle 26 miles to work and back, produced a fishing tool that I market to trout fisherman (www.powerskoop.com) (its a crappy web site, did it myself) and have in about 35 stores so far, run my labs daily, scuba dive-advanced open water and nitrox certified, maintain the Viper and the wife.
I know I'm forgetting something, I'll think of it later.
Oh yeah, learned how to fly helicopters a couple years ago.

Before that sold Carbide cutting tools and ran myself a small Computer business primarily building Highend gaming machines and also networks for small business's. Now I live at Clearlake and pickup a side job from time to time to pay for the boat gas. And fish everyday that I feel pretty good and have the cash for the gas. Gas was just hiting about $2 for Prem, when I moved here now have to save up to fill up

I spend considerable time with the kids football, volleyball and music lessons. Spend a fair amount of time doing the guitar thing myself, acoustic only. Enjoy golf, it gives me more time to spend with the kids.
Other interests include tending the garden, sketching and drawing, filming my buddies on the water. Used to play tennis in a league two or three days a week but the knees can't keep up anymore. Mostly like to spend time with the wife and kids but their schedules are getting more and more chaotic, haha.

Fish and play golf. Anytime left is spent working to pay for baits, launch fees, gas, golf balls and green fees.
