Everyone alive?

Post by Rick G »

Kinda quiet and boring on here lately. Maybe its just cause the Linehans are on Vacation. Maybe we should send a rescue chopper to Hawaii to find them. Fishing anyone? What did everyone think of their year now that the fishoffs are over? Gonna do better in 2009? Rick G.

Well, considering the state of our lakes at the present moment, I dont think there is much optimism in the fishing community. DVL is closed, and who knows when it will open...Perris has become the destination for every circuit in the IE...which was how it was before DVL. Castaic is the only lake that can handle 2 derbies a weekend for the next 8 months, and its dropping like lead balloon, and taking the bite with it... I think the economic downturn has hurt alot more of our friends than we are aware of, which in turn, limits their ability to fish when they want. they have to fish when they can.

All that being said, I think everyone is in a holding pattern waiting to see what the rest of the year has in store...kind of like waiting for the other shoe to drop...

i think people are over this place honestly. every time you bring up this website around people they are like "Oh god, stay off that thing!" I just cant help it, too much down time at work. I use to set up stuff in the office and pitch stuff into it, paint baits. My bosses prefer this.

One rule I have always believed in is that the Bass have no idea who is President, what gas cost's are, who lost what in the stock market. They will always be in control. That is why this is the best sport on Earth. Im goin no matter what is goin on. Been fishin in So.Cal since 1969 and caught plenty before DVL. Gotta go once it is in the blood. Rick G.

If i had the funds you did Rick id be right there with ya. Im just a young man licking his wounds and trying to get by. Perris gives me the greatest chance of winning some cheese. I know the Sd lakes really well, but pre fishing would destroy me.

Don't get me wrong, I wont stop fishing. I like to fish, and the derby thing makes it more fun. I know there are alot of guys that fish tournaments or they dont fish at all. When they get burned out they stop fishing all together...I wake up every morning wishing I was on the water, be it overnight out of SD...DV Perris or Castaic...or in the Eastern Sierras. I just plain love to fish. But to have a cash prize at the end makes it that much more intriguing.

If all the tournament orgs disappeared, I would still own a boat...and i would still go fishing. I have been doing this as long as I can remember. From walking the bank in Blythe with T Kratzer as kids, to spending weeks in the sierras as kids with mom, dad, and my brother...fishing is part of my life. Hell, is still have the Zebco spincast my dad bought me when I was 5....and my first spinning outfit I got at Ken's Sporting goods in Bridgeport when dad thought i was good enough to graduate from the spincast. :D

That is the reason I fish...

I can't wait for the season to start. I am leaving on Wednesday to finish the season off at Table Rock in MO at the Stren Championship.

I don't know what I would do if I didn't got fishing. I might have to actually spend some time with my wife

Heck I would get a second job if I had to just to go fishing.

agreed the fish dont know who is who Rick, but times are tough. I will always fish until the day i cant. Tournaments at crowded mud puddles are not high on my list. It takes the fun out of it when its blowing 30pm, sub 40 temps and 45 boats throwing c rigs around you. lol.

Mike i think

Post by Rick G »

the entry's going up is a direct result with all the other Org's trying to "Keep up with the Petersons" paybacks. There is also some entry level tours starting this year which will bring in some new folks hopefully like Average Joes and the FPT which is coming South I hear soon. It is also kinda like the banks with boat financing, there is plenty of money to lend, but we are going to up the anty if you want to borrow it. Rick G.

This is all about the FISHERMAN. They complain cause the payouts are to low, only way to make them higher is raise entrys OR options. NBW has it right, make sponsors pay. Give all the money back to the FISHERMAN. This works as long as you have SPONSORS!!! 100% who advertised 100% took out money to pay for permits not a 100% payout, WHERE ARE THEY NOW? WON Bass gives $15.00 to the Directors, That WHINNING fee should be raised!!!! $15.00 goes to WON Bass got to keep the paper going, $15.00 goes to the fish off or the WHINNER's at the end of the year. So we all can lower are fee's if the fisherman would take LOWER payout's. Times are tough but you the fisherman decide how much entry's are going to be. You the fisherman decide hoe much BOATs are going to be and so-on. So stop complaining and Pay Suckerrrrrrrrrrr's.

wonbass cant compete with the numbers nbw draws so in order to try and make a comparable payout they have to raise the bar. Guess what ours cost $0. I like that number. Bill you forgot the Del Taco fee! Wonbass has always had lower pay outs and everyone knew it, thats why Billy Wonka raised the rates this year. Another reason is, they know the same knuckledheads who fished last year will fish again this year even though there is a slight increase. Im extremely interested to see the first derbies pay outs and weights

28lbs? They need to add those little green swimming burritos until that will be reached. I think NBW this sunday will take 19 and some change.

Most folks have used up whatever disposable income they have, so money for recreational spending goes into living expenses. Most bass fisherman may still fish, but with the same equipement and buy fewer new things, until the economy turns around. I'm not a tournament fisherman and from my perspective the sport of tournament bass fishing is going to see some big changes in 2009.

oh i know Bill. Like unc said, we have been fishing that place since 3 weeks after it went public. I had a 7lb spottie off of world record rock when i was 9.It was right after an article Kramer wrote about the reaper bite back in the day.i remember reading it and telling my dad to take my there. good times. I have still have the pretty picture. It was a jewel back in the day.. schools of spotties everywhere.. deep tree lines.. clearer water. i remember when the tire reef was a secret  I have spent many a nights in those campgrounds, fishing perris is going to bring back some fun memories of where it all started. Perris and Vail.. those were our lakes... until DVL opened and the last 3 years have been there. I need to dust off some of the old tackle boxes and see what still works!

Bill, WON has plenty of

Post by Rick G »

sponsers. If fact, way more than NBW, and much bigger names. The $ just gets distributed to a different group. The Orgs need to stop the "poor ol me cry" as they would not be doing it if they were losing money. WON gets ad dollars, NBW and ABA collect membership dollars, insurance dollars and so on. Nothing wrong with them making a living, IMHO. Rick G.

Where is Hippie?? Don't be squeezing my job Bill!! My year sucked, loss 640 bucks for the year in entrys to payout. My classic sucked but got a check for 3rd big fish, payed like 12th place. In the end, my mind was and still is in a different place than it needs to be for tournaments. When I'm able, things will change. Motivation is a bitch right now.

I'm gonna fish too no matter what and I don't have much $......I do have my fishing priorities straight though. Gonna fish SWBA after a really tough year but a small comeback at the Championship by pulling a 2nd place.....that was cool. Going to fish one circuit or another in the fresh......looks like NBW with a travelers mix of Perris and Castaic. Don't really want to fish against team R&B at Havasu, ABA's schedule for So. Ca. is right on top of SWBA....bummer, but I'll look at the bright side for the NBW fish-off.....I know Team R$B can be beat!. so is the challenge!....see all at Perris or maybe a Catalina run for the weekend?

Doing a little deer hunting this weekend than looking forward to the Anglers Choice region with Jim Rayes on casitas this winter . Thats it . One region as not to get to rapped up in the points chase like some . Just a suggestion to some , pick a region , dont kill yourself in running to every derbi existing thinking you might miss somthing . Just go fishing when you can and learn to enjoy it again . Especially with the economy being what it is . Been there done that , 30 derbies a season plus TOC"s on top of a family life and running a small bussiness. Dont drive yourself nuts .

Thanks again Mike and Clint!! Rick, you know I never won a dime on that lake. I'm so scared of those names I pissed my pants as I read them, NOT!!! Come on, names are just that. Them names never scared me in the pro-ams so why on Perris? Modivation is a bitch because of family stuff Rick. Family is first here in my house so them names can take a hike! BTW, Pete and I are not fishing together this year. Only NBW and WON BASS Pro-Am's for me this year with a few others sprinkled in.
