Re: Casitas
Havent benn in a while but my experience tells me you can get a couple blows ups if you commit. They will only be big though. Kinda like chuckin a swimmer. If their up they'll bite. If not fish a jig on light line. Stay shallow in the afternoon with it for the donkeys. Have fun!

Re: Casitas
There is allways a swimbait tied on in my boat. I have not been up there for 3 weeks. The crankbait bite was awsome last time out. Probably 20+ fish with a 3 pound average. They were all over the DD-22's in lavender shad and tennesee shad on the exposed points to the west.

Re: Casitas
3lbers are fun when your catching 20 of em. My info is good for big ones.
I dont do much crankin there. Buzzers and swimmers for the bigger fish. Big profile on the buzzer! Swimmer fish will come with the wind. They'll eat the buzzer and spook all day. stay near deeper water. im jealous!

Re: Casitas
Yea I know you have had your share of the bigger fish from there. I have fished Casitas since I was 6 years old, (I'm now 50), the biggest I've caught from there is 7.5lbs. I have caught 1000's of bass over the years but can't get that DD fish. I have pics of me and my dad in the early 70's with 10 fish at 40-45 pounds which was huge fot the time. Back then the hot baits were Sonics, christmas tree bombers and waterdogs, Manns jelly worms, and football head jigs. Still a great fishery and now days is a great place for fun fishing without all the tournament pressure. Now you can fish a point for an hour before another boat goes by.

Re: Casitas
That is very true. I was there yesterday, and will be going tomorrow also. The bite on cranks was slow. As a matter of fact the whole day was slow for us, but that doesn't mean they aren't there.Byron wrote:Yea I know you have had your share of the bigger fish from there. Do you still use those old baits?
I came. I caught. I released. Life is good! -Saul-
Re: Casitas
No I haven't thrown the old baits for years. I thought about taking everything out of my boat and only bringing the vintage stuff but have yet to do it. I will be out there in my little moonshine colored Nitro 640LX / 75 Opti combo tomorrow. If you see me -- stop by and say hi.
Re: Casitas
Fished Friday and Saturday and the bit is pretty tough. There is shad everywhere, every point every cove was filled with shad. Got a few on hologram shad robo up to 6lbs. Was able to net some shad and it was pretty much wide open on the live bait. Good luck up there.
