January Stren out of the Casino

Post by Robert F »

Anybody else notice that FLW changed the first CL to the Casino? Write your Congressman! I HATE THAT PLACE. How are we going to launch 150 boats from there? What if there is weather? The Resort is far better situated for this tournament.

At the Casino we have most of the boats in the water in docks, close to town and a good two lane ramp. RV parking is on site.
At the resort it is one lane in the morning, miles to camp in a RV and parking is the pits.

There are also several ramps nearby that will take the pressure off the Casino ramps. Weather can be an issue at Konocti Harbor that time of year if the wind comes in strong from the south.

...and people that rip off your boats on the dock, break in to your cars in the parking lot and no safe place to stage 150 boats for take-off. Move it to town if you want it on the north end.

Dude,
Here's an idea. Dont fish!!!! If it bothers you then dont fish. But before you go off the deep end, We could be going out of Red Bud. Now you want to talk about sleeping with one eye open.
Just stay in town, launch at library park and drive over. Done it a hundred times, not hard.
Besides, the people that own the resort are tring to sell it and word is they are not enthusiastic about hosting tournaments.

Robert,
I have never, ever seen or heard of anyone getting ripped off while at the casino. it happens at the resort all the time because they are lax about security there, but the casino is Indian Land (so they say) and they shoot first, ask later.

Have you ever seen a break-in there or have 1st hand knowledge of it happening?

I love that place because it is so safe, its convenient for leaving your boat in the slips, and the facilities are just fine.

I personally am glad its there.

Hope to see you there.

When the FLW Stren first came to town they when out of Redbud for 2003 and 2004. Then in 2005 (172 boats) and 2006 (200 boats) they when out of the Casino and the Launch was very good. The last two years was out of the Resort. The National Guard when out of the Resort in 2007. I like the Casino and my stuff has always been safe there.

The casino has 'round the clock security, video cameras at the slips, power at every slip, stable docks, and is more than capable of handling 150 boats. It is also shielded from the wind which aides in the safety and speed of launching and trailering boats. They have a hotel and an RV park with full hook-ups for the campers and there are hotels nearby such as Skylark Shores for those that want to bypass the crowd, they also have a ramp that is a short boat ride to the casino. And I don't want to forget the ramps in downtown Lakeport, 3rd & 5th St ramps are very nice and have plenty of parking. Plenty to choose from to eat in Lakeport also. Oh yeah,,,,,,Tackle It is in Lakeport also, at the bottom of 11th St. Way more than what the Harbor can offer. Did I leave anything out? 2 cents

I was just staying in Lakeport- the free ramps (5th St. et. al.) were excellent, the place we stayed was great. That's what I'd do- we putted over to the Casino each morning for inspection and the start.

it'll be alright, except when we get that 30 mph wind from the north then we won't even be able to get out of the marina without getting soaked. i don't love it, but i will fish it.

Got a bunk board stolen from off the trailer at the Casino once. in the middle of the FLW tourny. There security sucks and they dont look at the tapes unless your car is stolen. They put signs up to cover their @22. Who steals a bunk board? Only in Clearlake.

The ABA TOC had 182 boat out of there last week ... and it was smooth as silk..... I don't know if it could of been ran any smoother ??

From launching, livewell checks, blast off, check in's, weigh in's, and trailoring. (Did hear someones motor hit something on the way in not trimmed up -- and heard a docktalk story of where someone's prop got tangled in a bouy cable and there was a need for bolt cutters to free them)

We had 5 boaters that stayed togther in one pad near Walmart. It could of not gotten any better .... Other that not cashing a check between the 10 of us. Brian and Hayman did cash a really good check .... But they did not party with us......and it covered their expences for that week.

You can always do like Mr. Thomas did at last year's Classic -- Go and eat breakfast after everyone else has blasted off. Have someone check your livewells then launch. Go out and stick 30 'sumptin' pounds ..... come in early and be the first one off the water... Then play 21 till the rest of the field comes in.

I am personally looking foreward to getting to that land-locked pond again soon - But the next time will be with the family. :D :D :D :D
You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

Interesting. Sometimes things have to be moved from one location to another. There simply isn't a choice. The resort from what I've been told is out of the question for this event.

The ramps in Lakeport seem a much safer and better location. The times I have seen weather come up it is not blowing west. There is plenty of open water to stage the boats and run the boat check. May not be well situated for weigh-in? Haven't really looked at that aspect. The resort is not great. I did notice last year that the quality of the operations seemed to declining. It is not convenient to other places to stay. It does have plenty of room for tournament events. It is safe as they get for weather as you can approach from multiple directions. I have been in situations where coming or going to the Casino is down right dangerous. As far as "security" at the Casino is concerned, remember the property is a soverign nation. Any issues between visitors and residents will take the residents side. Just hope that a resident doesn't shoot at you "for fun". Nothing will be done. I know this to be a fact.

Sorry, but your opinion differs from most of us. The Casino is the better of the two. 80 boats can stay on the water and not launch. You can launch from Lakeport or County Park and have an uncrowded ramp. There is a protected Bay to stage inside.

Also the only recent tournament thefts I remember were at Konocti Harbor this year when several boats were hit. The Casino has been amazingly safe considering the location.

Now, the choice of fishing Clear Lake in January was a bone head move by FLW. I will agree with that. I have no interest in this tournament just based on the lake choice. I love Clear lake, but January can be one of the most miserable bites on the West Coast. They chose the date based on fishing a spotted bass reservior then moved it to a LM lake.

At the pre-tourney meeting for the ABA TOC, there was an announcement made to keep a close eye on your stuff at the casino, as one of the anglers had his outboard UNBOLTED FROM HIS TRANSOM, and all the cables and lines were just cut!

WTF??? I have never heard of that in my life?? That's insane....The casino and everything surrounding it is soooo ghetto-fied. Serious poverty and shanty-town style living on the native american homelands that surround the casino. The water there is friggin' putrid also. I will never stay there....Ferndale all the way! That place is awesome, clean, safe, and quiet. The only complaint I would have is that the ramp could use some work, but if the water was a few feet higher it would be fine...other than that..A great place to stay(and they have the #1 rated restaurant in the county).
