why I'm voting Democrat

Post by Rod Martin »

"Why I'm voting Democrat:

I'm voting Democrat because English has no place being the official language in America.

I'm voting Democrat because I'd rather pay $4 for a gallon of gas than allow drilling for oil off the coasts of America.

I'm voting Democrat because I think the government will do a better job of spending my money than I could.

I'm voting Democrat because when we pull out of Afghanistan and Iraq, I know the Islamic terrorists will stop trying to kill us because they will think we are a good and decent country.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe people who can't tell us if it will rain in two or three days, can now tell us the polar ice caps will disappear in ten years if I don't start riding a bicycle, build a windmill or inflate my tires to proper levels.

I'm voting Democrat because it's alright to kill millions of babies as long as we keep violent, convicted murderers on death row alive.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe businesses in America should not be allowed to make profits. Businesses should just break even and give the rest to the government so politicians and bureaucrats can redistribute the money the way they think it should be redistributed.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe guns, and not the people misusing them, are the cause of crimes and killings.

I'm voting Democrat because when someone with a weapon threatens my family or me, I know the government can respond faster through a call to 911 than I can with a gun in my hand.

I'm voting Democrat because oil companies 5% profit on a gallon of gas are obscene, but government taxes of 18% on the same gallon of gas are just fine.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe three or four elitist liberals should rewrite the Constitution every few months to suit some fringe element that could never get their agenda past voters.

I'm voting Democrat because illegal aliens are not criminals, are not sucking up resources through government aid, hospital services, education, or social services, but are just people trying to make a better life by coming to America illegally. We can't blame them for that, can we?

I'm voting Democrat because now I can marry whatever I want, so I've decided to marry my horse.

Makes you wonder why anyone would ever vote Republican, doesn't it? "

Why do people vote Republican?

Because they hate other people on the basis of race, religion, sexual orientation, income, national origin, or gender.

Because they feel that poor people have chosen to be poor.

Because they feel that women should not have control over their own reproductive decisions.

Because they are wealthy and are tired of paying high taxes for the benefit of society, even though their wealth was achieved through the benefits of society.

Because they believe that the lives of Americans are more valuable than the lives of Iraqis.

Because they are uneducated and can't understand the fancy thinkin' of the scientists of the world.

Because they were asleep in political science class and missed the part about the constitutional role of the Supreme Court to protect the rights of the minority.

Because they believe in freedom and liberty and our right to imprison and torture our enemies without interference from a court of law.

Because they are hypocrites and promote the values of less governmental interference EXCEPT in the cases of reproductive rights, marital rights, our right to privacy, our right against unreasonable search and seizures, and medicinal marijuana.

Because they are hypocrites and claim to value the sanctity of Life EXCEPT in the case of the lives of Iraqi civilians, the lives of minority criminal defendants, and the achievement of life-saving cures from stem cell research.

Rod, I tried to mirror your post with "Why I'm voting Republican" but I just couldn't force myself to type the words. I am glad though that you're finally coming around to our way of thinking.

I realize your response was to attack the comments directed towards liberal policy but you crossed the line with a number of comments and either you are way off base on republican ideals or you are a mean spirited liar. Here are only a couple examples;

Your first line says republicans HATE the groups you mentioned. You need to apoligize on that one. I do not know any conservatives who hate minorities or or anyone else. In fact we want all americans to have an opportunity to prosper and do not believe higher taxes and more social welfare accomplishes it.

You said we do not want to allow women to choose. Let me tell you the choice is life or death. How can our goverment allow this "choice" when we stand for LIFE, liberty for all? So conservatives are evil because we try to protect all life regardless of age?

You said that we value our lives more then the lives of Iraqi's. Do you realize that the Iraqi people had been murdered and repressed for years by a dictator? That we are attempting to help the future of Iraqi people to be free and have a democracy and the people we are trying to kill are terrorist murdering other Iraqis.

Go ahead and believe our methods are wrong but do not be so foolish as to think the motivation is too.

I would not go as far as saying that EVERY conservative believes EVERY one of my points but what I've attempted to do is summarize the major reasons I believe conservatives vote the way they do. Not unlike what I assume Rod himself has attempted.

On this particular point, T, you seem to be a newcomer on this forum so let me fill you in on some history. On a number of occasions various Conservative members (and some newcomers) to this forum have expressed thoughts such as:

"I will not vote for Obama because he is a Muslim."

Not only does such sentiment reveal a basic state of ignorance (as anyone with greater than a third grade education would realize that Obama is a Christian) such a statement is obviously bigoted and racist.

To prove my point I would challenge you to show me how the above statement which is commonly made by your fellow conservatives is different from...
"I cannot vote for Obama because he is a black man."
or
"I cannot vote for Obama because he is a Jew."
or
"I cannot vote for Obama because he is a Mormon."
or
"I cannot vote for Obama because he is a homosexual."
or
"I cannot vote for Obama because he is a white man."

In any case, the motivation for determining ones vote is based on bigotry, prejudice, and/or racism.

Certainly, I do not believe that ALL conservatives believe in this way, but this has been a prevailing strategy of the conservative cause in this election.

I used to respect John McCain, but when he decided to abandon his principles and instead utilize a campaign strategy of fear and bigotry he lost all credibility.

You got me Jeff.
Its all about race.
I'm to stupid to come up with someother reason to want to vote for McCain and against Obama.

I dont know how to read, write or watch TV. So I'm unable to from an opinion.

But I got that white sheet in da closet.

You're right ,only Obama supporters are not hatemongers, only Obama supporters are smart enought to see throught of all the lies to the real truth.,

So I guess I,m just too dumb for Obama, I'll just stay with McCain

I'm not voting for the junior senator because he is easily the least experienced, most under-prepared presidential candidiate I've seen in my lifetime. (And most likely ever....) When you judge each candidate's actual experience, judgment, character and track records relevant to the position they are seeking, the obvious winner is McCain-by a mile. One doesn't even have to get into party politics to figure out who is the most ready to be president in this election. By far the junior senator's support is primarily based on stupid party politics (he's not Bush..not republican blah, blah, blah). If the junior senator were judged in a more objective, logical fashion he loses-by a mile.

I won't vote for Sarah Palin because she is white.

Jeff, I know I can't talk any sense into your brainwashed head, but I'm gonna give it a try.

First "because they feel poor people have chosen to be poor"

How many third world countries have you been to Jeff? My guess is that I've been to more third world countries than you've been to countries other than the U.S. I've seen WITH MY OWN eyes what "POOR" is, Jeff. I've seen with MY OWN EYES what "ZERO OPPORUNITY" is, Jeff. What you socialist bleeding heart idiots don't understand is that EVERYONE that is born in America is born with a CHANCE and an OPPORTUNITY to succeed. This is the case because they are born in a free society that rewards those who work hard. Those that are poor, HAVE chosen to be poor because they have EVERY opportunity in the world to succeed and make money. It's the addiction and reliance on social programs that has brought down the urge to rise above the poverty line for people that are born into it. WHY do you liberals not see/understand this?! If social programs were eliminated, people would actually have to go out, get off their a$$es and contribute to society. Imagine that. And those that choose to NOT get off their butts and work, die off. Pretty soon we would have only those who want to work hard for a living. Right? That is your boy Darwin's theory, isn't it?

"women shouldn't have control over their own reproductive decisions"

Jeff, for a bleeding heart that is so concerned about Iraqi civilians, you once again contradict yourself by supporting Obama and his abortion policies. Third tri-mester abortions?! Partial birth abortions?! Your boy supports letting live babies DIE after botched partial birth abortions. It always blows my mind when I hear libs such as yourself supporting such an atrocious act. Disgusting.
Because they are wealthy and are tired of paying high taxes for the benefit of society, even though their wealth was achieved through the benefits of society.
We support paying taxes, but when you penalize the rich and give to the poor. YOU ARE A SOCIALIST. This we do NOT support.
Because they believe that the lives of Americans are more valuable than the lives of Iraqis.
We also thought that American lives were more important than the lives of Germans in WWII. Was that wrong? They never attacked us either.
Because they believe in freedom and liberty and our right to imprison and torture our enemies without interference from a court of law.
How many people have you ever interogated in your life? You don't get answers by providing short prison stays and tickling the feet of those who you wish to gain intel from. We are limited in what we do, and I assure you interrogation tactics do not injure those being interrogated. I'm glad to hear that you're concerned about those who wish to anhiliate you, your family, and your way of life. That alone, speaks wonders about what a great person you must be.

Because they are hypocrites and promote the values of less governmental interference EXCEPT in the cases of reproductive rights, marital rights, our right to privacy, our right against unreasonable search and seizures, and medicinal marijuana.
First off, you must be smokin' weed if you think that it honestly provides any sort of medicinal value. People that smoke weed, just like gettin' high, and you know it. I personally know people that have "prescriptions" for medicinal marijuana that don't have a damn thing wrong with them. Yet they're able to grow, smoke, and carry marijuana with no consequences. Conservatives ARE for less governmental interference, however unlike you liberals we have these things called morals and values. So when something contradicts morality, we are typically against it. And typically the only people that are against search and seizures are criminals. Are you a criminal Jeff? Do you have something to hide?

Because they are hypocrites and claim to value the sanctity of Life EXCEPT in the case of the lives of Iraqi civilians, the lives of minority criminal defendants, and the achievement of life-saving cures from stem cell research.
Minority criminal defendants!? APPPFFFFFTTTTTT. I guess we don't support executing white people? You are a joke. And are you claiming that we purposefully execute Iraqi civilians? Please atleast answer this one for me...

Have fun voting for the obamarx/Biden ticket.

Nice Going Marty;

While the guys or gals who have a Death Sentence file appeal, after appeal and mire down the Justice System for 20 years, the victims of there atrocities rot in there graves and the families grieve ! But defense lawyers dance a jig getting rich !

As far as the ones in git-mo ? I would give them the same chance for fairness and equality as an American P.O.W. waiting for trial in a Taliban Jail.

Because you have had some limited exposure in the world you are all of the sudden an expert in what people experience everywhere, if you believe that ALL people born in this great nation are born with the same opportunities you are sadly mistaken and obviously ignorant to the struggles right here in America.

How many millions of Americans are one health issue from financial ruin? How many millions of American children go without even the most basic dentistry or medical care? How many millions of seniors have lost their pensions and live solely on a meager social security payment. You must not follow social issues very closely.

You are young, so I can understand your immaturity, I hope for your sake you never have to face what many Americans are facing each and every day in the land of opportunity. In fact I know a G.I. he had a lot of the same views as yourself, both he and his wife served 3 tours each in that dessert armpit called Iraq. He got out a 1 1/2 years ago. Niether have found work, they exhausted all of their benefits and unemployment and are now living with his parents, his Dad lost his VP job with a defense contractor 8 months ago, and his employment is running out. When I talked with his Dad recently he broke down into tears, they've nearly used up all their available credit and are now close to losing their home, it's actually in foreclosure now. His mother has been battling cancer. Oh and by the way, she can't get insurance because it is a "pre-existing" condition. If we all have the same opportunity, why can't she get medical coverage?

You might want to show a little restraint on what you say about your mission or expertise on a website. I am sure your an expert in how all prisoners are treated everywhere, just as your an expert on social affairs in America, but having been in the military I know full well how they frown upon saying certain things in public.

I am never amazed at how people buy into everything they hear, such as "Obama stands for third tri-mester and partial birth abortions" you might at least try to get your facts straight, you heard something somewhere and swallowed it and got guthooked, your not even close to being correct.

You may believe you have all the answers wrapped up nice and neat, but I'm going to tell you that you don't, not by a long shot. Is Obama really better than McCain, we'll probably never get the chance to really measure one against the other, there isn't time. You're right Dan. Obama is gonna CHANGE EVERYTHING! WOO HOO!!! He's going to solve all the worlds problems and everyone is going to join in a giant group hug as soon as he gets into office! Money will fall out of trees, doctors doors will never close!

You are delusional.

Is Obama going to get your friend his job back? Is he going to put money in his pocket? Is he going to give health care to your friend who doesn't qualify?

It's funny that you can call my world exposure "limited", knowing nothing about where I've been, or what I've done.

What I said "militarily" wouldn't even raise the brow of anyone who cares about what "we" say on the internet. I know what I can and can't say. Thank you though for caring about my welfare.

Because of the economic turmoil you and your subaru station wagon driving liberal buddies think socialism is the answer, and to me that is incredibly sad. It's no surprise that you socialists despise capitalism, but we're all going to pay the price if this guy gets in office.

I hope that it's all you ever wished for, and more Dan.

So how do you interpret it?

So I'll ask you

Do we turn our backs on the women who worked 35 years ina factory, believing she would have a pension and medical to retire on, only to have the company go bankrupt, or the pension plan underfunded, is it her tough luck?

How about the 55 y.o. man, gainfully employed his entire life, at 55 laid off, unable to find work because he is older and mostly overqualified, is this just his tough luck?

How about the young man with a lower IQ, too high to be classified as disabled, but not able to fully support himself, is he to be left on the curb, to fend for himself?

What about the thousands of GI's returning from Iraq and Afganistan-do we give them the same care Vietnam vets got?

Do you believe the Iraq war is more important than our own people her at home? Or the billions we spend around the world to spread democracy, is this more important than funding 500,000 children without even basic medical care?

Funny thing about conservatives, I hear about their morals and values, yet bring it up that they have to pay a little to help their fellow citizens and the "socialism" "marxism" bells start ringing.

As an American I believe it's our moral obligation to see that everyone has at least the basic essentials. That is the Christian way, that has nothing to do with being a liberal, socialist, marxist or whatever other name you want to try and pin on it. What side of the fence do you sit on?

We're not supposed to mix Gov. & religon. Is'nt that what you guys want. So leave it to the states or churchs to take care of, why give $100 dollars to the fed gov. so that 2 dollars can be handed out to people that may or maynot need it.

AGAIN I am not against helping but I am against letting the gov. do it.

How about letting the money collected to help people go straight to the red cross or some other org. that is set up just to help people, instead off having to pay a gov. agency to adminster the money

But that would'nt line as many pockets, would it.

We say God Bless America, we say "under God" in our pledge. Do we want to remove those? Our nation was ounded on Christianinity, was it not? Doesn't Lady Liberty say;

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me:
I lift my lamp beside the golden door."

So we take them in and what? Let them to their own devices?

It is really this simple, either you believe in Christian values and morals and know in your heart what is right and wrong, or you cherish your money more. I don't want a government that takes my money and spreads it around the world to try and spread democracy, I don't want a government that believes in pre-emminent strike and starting wars in all parts of the world, I don't want a government that does nothing about infrastructure needs, crime, homelessness, education, healthcare.

I guess this is why our choice for President is different, no two of us are the same, we all want something different. Nobody is right, nobody wrong, we don't agree on what our government should and shouldn't do for it's citizens. At the end of today we'll know how the majority of people feel.

If we are a society founded on Christian principles, we believe strongly in moral values, is it not our duty, our instruction to help those less fortunate than ourselves? Christian principles would have us teach them to provide for themselves. Not to be dependant on goverment!

Do you worship money or God? It's really that simple, yes or no? God

Abortions-Obama voted against a bill that contained "no exceptions" for the mothers health concerning late term abortions. You will read it however you choose, I already know how McCain/Palin

Andys quote
Quote:
Right? That is your boy Darwin's theory, isn't it

So I'll ask you

Do we turn our backs on the women who worked 35 years ina factory, believing she would have a pension and medical to retire on, only to have the company go bankrupt, or the pension plan underfunded, is it her tough luck? Unfortunatly, unless we want to be a socialist country it is tough luck.

How about the 55 y.o. man, gainfully employed his entire life, at 55 laid off, unable to find work because he is older and mostly overqualified, is this just his tough luck? same answer

How about the young man with a lower IQ, too high to be classified as disabled, but not able to fully support himself, is he to be left on the curb, to fend for himself? Ever heard of family! NOT GOVERMENT

What about the thousands of GI's returning from Iraq and Afganistan-do we give them the same care Vietnam vets got? Goverment has got it wrong both time!! Just goes to show you what we can all look foward to with socialized medicine!

Do you believe the Iraq war is more important than our own people her at home? Or the billions we spend around the world to spread democracy, is this more important than funding 500,000 children without even basic medical care? I believe the war is about our own people. And spreading democracy is bad? Since I find the U.S.A. to be the greatest and most giving country in the world, spreading democracy throughout the world is seen as a positve thing to me.Generations from now,the spread of democracy stands to save billions more children in the world.

Funny thing about conservatives, I hear about their morals and values, yet bring it up that they have to pay a little to help their fellow citizens and the "socialism" "marxism" bells start ringing. What you leave out of your context is..."they have to pay a little MORE and MORE and MORE. And now Obama says he wants MORE of the HARD EARNED money of some, to give to people that are unwilling in some cases to be a productive part of society!

As an American I believe it's our moral obligation to see that everyone has at least the basic essentials. That is the Christian way, that has nothing to do with being a liberal, socialist, marxist or whatever other name you want to try and pin on it. What side of the fence do you sit on?My side of the fence is the one in which you make your own way in life. I can't imagine those that were taught or those with the views that without the help of the goverment all is lost. What a pathetic life that must be!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with you. I am able and have made my way through life on my own. So what about the others who can't for whatever reason?
Screw them? Are they pathetic because of their situation?

Dan, most election years I'd same the same thing, and have(if your guy wins, "I'll support him" as he would be our president), but to me this is totally different!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm proud to be an American and what it stands for. As far as Obama...He's an admitted socialist who believes in the redistribution of wealth. Now look back on American history, socialism in no way has played a part in what has made us the greatest country on earth. Why start now? Because times are tough? That's just giving up!!!!!!!!!!!! Generations before us have given us the examples that we should be following and taking to heart. Is it hard to follow in the footsteps that have led us to the nation that we have become? Sure it is,but for the sake of our country, and all that it allows us to be,you must see that Obamas' ways are not what made us great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd love to do a survey of all the people on earth and see what they thought the greatest country on earth is. Who gives a **** what the greatest country on earth is? The earths population is 6.7 billion people, expected to be 9 billion by 2042. So right now we equal 4.5% of the worlds population.

So why are we so effing great compared to other countries? Because we're the most obese? Because we consume 25% of the planets energy? Because when we get crazy ideas like tiny countries such as Vietnam and Iraq are going to threaten us, we just got kill hundreds of thousands of them on trumped up ideas? Because our founding fathers had slaves and Andrew Jackson put bounty on the scalps of Indians who were fully integrated in to white society and living in mansions, just because he didn't like indians?

Because our bass boats do 75 mph? I think people who feel the need to say we're the greatest country on earth have small penises.

There is room for improvement in all countries and all systems of government. I've you want to live in the 1980s, got for it, but please don't block the road to the future.

Personally, I don't feel that I'm any greater or better than any african child dying of aids. I just happen to be born with more opportunity. If I was born in Sweden, France, Japan or Canada I'd be just as happy.

Your no more of a proud American than anyone else who goes out and votes today. You can call it giving up or whatever you like, I call it my civic duty to vote my concious. People have made their choices and if you can't rally behind your nation then I don't know what to say, I guess sit out the next 4 years and bide your time like those who have sat out the past 8. There isn't that much difference between these two to cry over the loss of one or the other. News flash we've been more socialist than capitalist the past 30 years, so in reality Obama isn't anyone to fear. I keep hearing the same thing, I'm going to pay more taxes, he's going to redistribute the wealth. What do you think EIC is? When someone who pays no tax and yet can get a tax refund of 5-8K, isn't that more like redistribution? Thats been going on for a long time already. If we as taxpayers can be forced to bail out the S&L and now Banking, spend billions on wars, send billions to countries around the world then we dam sure can start spending some money on educating our own people, training them for jobs, building infrastructure, providing a fairer system of health care and the like.

Well Shlt I will reply to Greg musing.

Greg you should rethink what you are saying – you have said some dumb @ss thing before but this is going to the top of the list.

Just so happen you were not born Sweden, France, Japan or Canada but why pick on those countries – is it because they are similar to our? Why not pick Mexico, China, Africa or some place in South America? “Oâ€

I see your point. Sometimes as Americans we can be full of ourselves. Pride in our country is good, arrogance as we have all seen in our current president isn't. Their is a BIG difference in PRIDE (the quality or state of being proud) and ARROGANCE (: an attitude of superiority manifested in an overbearing manner or in presumptuous claims or assumptions) to not recognize it is dangerous.

For those who say they don't give a damn how the world views us, well that's being a bit too arrogant. We aren't so mighty as to be able to strongarm the entire world, we aren't so great to be able to defend ourselves in every place without the help of our friends around the globe. Frankly we have lost face with many of our allies, that has as much to do with Bush as any other problem we have. A pack of wolfs are always stronger than a lone wolf, no matter how fierce the lone wolf may be. A community of nations is always stronger and better able to defend itself against a bad guy.

I believe this is the greatest nation ever, it has nothing to do with being able to kick someones arse, and everything to do with FREEDOM, the freedom to choose what, where, and how I'll live. The sense of fairness that we have had throughout our nations history, our ability to rally in the face of danger as we did in WW2, our ability to change course and right the wrongs of the past as in abolishing slavery. America has survived, we have done so with pride and a unique humblness, not because we were arrogant.

At least that's how I took Greg's post.

Someone understands me. I just get tired of the boisterous flag waving BS in the face on when we are wrong in what we are doing. When we do something right, stand up and be proud, but a blanket statement of "we are the greatest thing on earth" is like Dolly Parton saying that about her tits. They are just fine, but they aint the greatest things on earth.

Judging by the spelling and sentence structure, I think Marty needs some coffee and possibly an intervention.
