I can't believe I woke up with a black President.
It's about time.
I'm just sorry my folks, who spent their lives working for this day, aren't alive to see it.
Bitter sweet.
"Whatever our differences, we are fellow Americans". John McCain.
Now we need to begin the hard part, finding a way to put our country, and the world, back on the road to prosperity and peace.

anything bad that happens in the next year will be blamed on Obama by the McCain supporters. It will take well over a year to stablize and move forward from the crap that Bush messed up.
The people that harp on Obama better wake the hell up and realize that this change is needed. This country hasnt been as excited for a president since JFK.
I think he should have things looking better in the next 2 years. Definetly by the end of his term. If not, then H. Clinton will have her chance I beleive. One thing is for sure, dont expect to see a republican in the white house for a while.
Although I dont beleive McCain would have done a bad job because he isnt totally the republican that Bush was...he is guilty by association. Middle class America (me included) finally spoke up and hopefully it is the right decision. And I dont want to hear that only minorities voted for Obama...he got more of the "white" vote then the demo before him. Its not about color people, its about wealth. The wealthy didnt/dont feel the affects of Bush, but the middle and lower class did/does. And dont act like that Stimulous check that we got should have made people like him because it didnt.
Lets just all hope things get better...Jobs, schools, Housing, health care.... ALL of us ARE affected in one way or another.

Lets keep our fingers crossed guys and support this guy!!!

Amen! His speech was very eloquent and compelling. We haven't had a President speak so well in YEARS! Much better than "This is it, take it or leave it...."

Key question, can Obama get the Republicans to come together for the greater good. He will give them the olive branch, that they criticized him so much for during the campaign, and make things happen.

Time will tell, but it is the best start in a very long time...

One more thing...........

Post by TEAMDEADMONEY »

I do commend McCain on his Speech when he conceded. The man was contrite, classy, Humble, and respectful of the defeat.
He showed that he is okay with the decision and ready to support our new President elect because he wants this country to get back to being the proud, healthy, economically sound nation that he fought for and was held captive for not too many moons ago.
As I said before, I dont think that he would have done a "bad" job because he isnt as "Rep" as most but he was indeed guilty by association (being Rep) in alot of peoples minds. He would have boat raced most other candidates this year if Obama wasnt the one he was running against. Change is needed and Obama with his riviting and compelling speeches pulled people in and won them over.
Im not trying to sway people to like Obama, his term in office will do that..I hope! Im just saying that if some of you havent heard the man speak, listen to some of his speeches and hear his words and how they are spoken. It IS really refreshing and leaves you with a glimmer of hope when he is finished. God knows this country needs it!!

Oh by the way...what does TMI mean Robert??

All I have to say is that he thinks he is Robin Hood and I am sorry but that kind of economic mind set is just going to bring this country further down. Poor and lower middle class people are not the ones providing jobs. I just hope that I am wrong.

We'll see how it works out. I wish he was more solid on his views. I don't want to hear what I want to hear. I want to hear what he thinks without changing his mind down the road when the same question is asked by someone with a different view. I guess I'm rich because I make more than 42 grand a year. I wonder if all his friends that he had to alienate will be welcomed back now?

I also found it funny how Prop 8 was labeled a law that was discriminatory but the African -American votes were the highest percentage for (yes vote) the proposition per race.

Like PEte said it will take a good year or two to straighten out crap, but I believe he will be a great president. One question though? Since his mom was white and father was black why is he an african american?

Byron,
I agree with you that race isn't what's important right now.
It's results.
But, as someone who grew up in the 50's and saw the civil rights struggle first hand, I have to say I had my doubts about when America was going to overcome the legacy of hate and fear that has gripped this country since the civil war regarding race.
Tuesday, it happened.
It is historic.
If Obama's presidency is defined by just that, then it will have been a failure.
He takes command during a time of unprecedented challenges.
Two wars, global warming, and a domestic and world economy on the brink of meltdown not seen since the Great Depression.
I think his leadership style, inclusive instead of divisive, is what we need to pull through this time.
Think about it. If we don't all pull on the same end of the rope, we could all go down.
I think we'll know more about him in the coming days as we see the people he chooses to help him in the White House as his staff and cabinet officers. Hopefully, he'll chose the best people available, not just Democrats who supported him.
Because it's going to take more than just Democrats to save us from this mess.
The Republicans didn't create the problems alone, and the Democrats can't solve them alone.
I've never made $250,000 a year, even in my best years, so I don't have to worry about paying more taxes.
Right now, I just worry about having enough work to have to pay taxes, period.
But I was talking to a client yesterday who makes a whole lot more than that, and who stands to pay a lot more in taxes. And he was excited about Obama.
He pointed out that we were approaching the anniversary of the assination of JFK.
I told him I thought that the govt. was stolen from the people that day.
He said he thought that Obama's election was a sign that we're getting it back.
Obama's not sugar coating it, or BSing us about what's ahead.
But I get the sense that he understands what's ahead, and he's in the same boat we are, pulling on the oar.

I don't really like politics much but this is a capitalist country, as much as the naive, teary eyed, hacky sack champion volvo driving, bob dylan listening communists out there want to believe. I hope we don't become a socialist country that rewards those that sit on there @ss and do nothing. People should be rewarded on their merit, hardwork, etc not their social class. All the starving homeless vietnam vets (all war vets that are on the street) out there should be taken care of first. People that can not help themselves should be helped, but why should those that have reached higher levels of education or experience be taxed higher than others. We are not talking Bill Gates here. We are talking small business owners and the like. MAybe obama would like to change the amercian flag that he refuses to salute to 50 hammers and sickles instead of stars and stripes.

We can thank our biased media coverage for the final outcome. Look how they treated Palin here just a month ago:

Sarah Palin is invited to meet with the Pope while he is vacationing south of Rome in Venice.

The liberal press reluctantly watches the semi-private audience, hoping they will be able to allot minimal coverage, if any.

The Pope asks Governor Palin to join him on a Gondola ride through the canals of Venice.

They're admiring the sights when, all of a sudden, the Pope's hat (zucchetto) blows off his head and out into the water.

The gondolier starts to reach for the Pontiff's cap with his pole, but
this move threatens to overturn the floating craft.

Sarah waves the tour guide off, saying, "Wait, I'll get it."
She steps off the gondola onto the surface of the water and walks out and gets it, then hands the hat to the Pope amid stunned silence!!!

The next morning the topic of conversation among all the Democrats in Congress, CBS News, NBC News, ABC News, CNN, the New York Times, Hollywood celebrities, and in France and Germany is: "Palin Can't Swim."

How is taxing the heck out of a group of wage earners not divisive? You would think that a person sensitive to discriminative policies would consider this. Or maybe we are still no different than we were in the fifties. "It is no problem for me. I can have somebody else take care of it". Call it what it is. Discrimination. Plain and simple. The crooked will still get out of paying taxes. Look at the Pro Athletes. Their agents are already looking at ways to restructure their clients contracts.
Too bad most small business owners will not have the means to restructure. Most barely have the money for inventory, equipment, wages and a building to put it all in. How are you supposed to hire an agent to keep it away from the tax man? $250,000 doesn't go far in running a business. Probably a lot easier if you make 80-100 million like Oprah or Madonna.
BTW wait until you sell your house for 250,000 more than what you bought it for. It will happen again real soon. Maybe not for the people that live in Illinois but it will happen for Californians. Get ready to write a fat check because that 250K tax rate is going to include you.

Robert,
I've owned (bank mortgage) this house for 28 years, and my kids have threatened my life if I ever sell it.
If you make $250K, you can afford to pay taxes. It's the top 5% of the population.
The rest of us aren't getting a tax hike.
And if taxing unevenly is socialist/communist, thank the IRS. They do it all the time.
And if we're a "capitalist" country, how come we have public bailouts of private companies? That's not very capitalistic. It's socialism.
If it were true capitalism, the govt. wouldn't do anything, and all those companies would go broke, except for the ones who were smart enough not to invest in those "derivitives".
How come socialism is okay for the rich, but not for the poor jokers who got sold a bill of goods, and a sub-prime mortgage, and who are now losing their homes?
I think, before we give tax dollars to the companies whose job it is to know about money, and who still screwed up, we ought to help the average joe who was just trying to achieve the American Dream of home ownership, and who got sold down the river.
I don't buy that "they should have known what was going to happen before they decided to buy" line the mortgage bankers are trying to feed us. If anyone should have known what was going to happen, it was the money people. That's their job.
And they did know, and didn't care, as long as they were getting their cut.
Personal responsibility starts at the top.
And if we don't demand better of our leaders, and our bankers, and everyone else who is a position of power and influence, we'll never get it.

I agree with much of what you say. Big corporations are corrupt as anything. Unfortunately you may not be right with your stat as to the number of wage earners that will exceed 250K. These tax increases will affect more than just individuals.

Most businesses have to make more than 250K so they can spread the income through all the members of the corporation and grow the business. Corporate taxation is basically a gross tax rather than a net tax as it is pre distribution to shareholders. The shareholders are usually family members that have pooled resources to make a business feasible. Individually there may be only a small number of wage earners that exceed 250k. Most, if not all sucessful small businesses make more than 250K and will be hurt by the tax increase. Big businesses will not care. The shareholders are just you and me with our 401Ks.

As far as your home is concerned, your family members may be in for a rude awakening. Under current law you can sell you home and take 250K individually or 500K as a couple tax free from the sale of your primary residence. You can buy a smaller home and use that 500K (that you have probably accrued in the value of your 28 year residence) for your retirement under the current tax structure. Not under the new plan. Also you can inherit Real Estate with a stepped up value under the current plan. Not with the new. How well will your heirs take to writing a 200,000 check for that 500,000 inheritance?

To many people 250K may sound like a lot of money. Try to support a generation or two of business "partners" on that amount and you soon see it doesn't go too far. Try to retire on your home's equity and see how many years you go before you are wiping tables at the local McDonalds.

At least you will not have to pay much on that minimum wage job. Once you get driven down to that existence.

everyone forgets the boat in their driveway was thanks to Bush and his stupid policies. Remember the 4% unemployment record that ws never seen and remember that 5% was considered a bad thing??? Guess who was in charge? Guess who was in charge of the bad loan companies? Oh, Obamas new chief of staff and the guy that vetted his VP choices......

Look Im glad because I cant wait to get rid of the SecDef.
All i have to say is if you voted for a guy because the color of his skin I really feel bad for you.

IM glad this thing is over and Im glad Bush is leaving but then again 73% of the country agrees. Of course only 19% the country thinks the DEMOCRATS in Congress are doing a good job, Remember Nancy and Harry telling us all they would do? And gas went through the roof and she gave Chavez a tax break?

Point is this election was to punish the GOP and BUSH and the american people DID IT. My dog could have run as a Dem and won, it was that easy. Let hope Obama is as close to the center as he ran.... not as he voted. Thats how much they hate bush. Why did the Dems win in the Congress? Easy its PUNISH BUSHVILLE. Even though congress is more useless the failure of CONGRESS is attributed to the Bush admin and GOP even thougth they have nothing to do with it, they are the minority.

Coupla things. First guess what those evil businesses making 250K are gonna do to make back their taxes???
Yup raise prices. So that 10$ Obama gave you it out the window in higher prices.
Small businesses will get slammed. Right startup small businesses get a credit.... but its a ONE TIME deal. Seems like affimative action to me. So the next year that business better pay up.

Look I love the idea of getting something for free. Im just not naive enough to believe anything is free in life. Im gonna pay for it some place. Maybe if I go buy a new Ranger that price is mysteriously going to have gone up. I mean Ranger has more Taxes and Rick G has to pay more......... so they pass it on to me.

You know all those pro staff deals? Gonna dry up. Companies have to cut costs to afford the hike. So that free 500-1000 bucks you get is gonna go fast in the .10cents to 1000s you pay in the increase in the price of goods.

If you understand economics its like a Government induced inflation. You increase the supply of money and increase the price of goods. So you pay more money for the SAME object.

But in the small picture most of use will see a bigger check and we will think we are GOOD. Till we realize we paid more for the same baits in our cart.

Its great because of all the government spending. When you are dumping money for red tape etc everyone makes money and when you want to balance the budget CUT DEFENSE!!

We have enemies...  The naivity of some of you is baffling. Do none of you realize there is a reaction to every action?
If you take money from some people they will raise prices or fire people to get it back.
If firing your butt gets me the profit I made back I WILL. Im not in business to give you a check or food on your table. Im in business to make money and if cutting you makes me money i'll do it. Thats how it works.
Now im in the military so none of this effects me.
You know cutting and running would be great. Id get to stop deploying my buddies that have spent years of their lives in a desolate place could forget about it all and relax.... but in the meantime those who hate us... remember the guys that tried to kill us under Clinton and succeeded a short time after he left office?
Well they gain strength and may just be on the airplane your loved one is on when they try their insanity again.

So in the short term and in a small picture its great. But Big picture I may pay over and over and over again for that.

As far as hoping your boss can continue to employ you with the tax increases..... Welcome to the club. Feel fortunate that layoffs and unemployment havent hit your trade yet. Jason, when you hit your knees and pray at night you should thank god that your job is okay so far. ALOT of people ALREADY have had to deal with layoffs and pay cuts.

I dont think Obama is some Messiah... Im just hoping for a better future for me, my wife, my little girl and my friends. All of which have been affected in a negitive way (except for my little one) by the current state of things.
Lets all just cross our fingers and get behind our new President and hope that he is all hes is made out to be. And lets pray for a better future guys!

1st of all the layoffs have happened in my trade im just fortunate to be a foreman and try to do more than whats asked of me to keep my job I have more friends laid off in my trade and feel bad for them. Its construction who knows i may be next. the good thing is is i know i have strong electrical skills and can work anywhere. Next thing prayer is not going to help anything It didn't help when my grandma died it didn't help when my friends died in IRAQ, and it sure didn't make me the man i am today.Prayer and god is a thing for people to have a reason to live I live cause my parents made me and i am going to survive because im not a quitter and when i die and i hope its when i am super old or am helpless. my body is going to rot and if there are any good organs for another person in this hot body of mine they can have them so they can pray to there god and thank the atheis(is that how you spell it) for going to the gym and keeping a few of his body parts functional

You know Im not very religious either and I come from a pretty religious Catholic Italian family. I have alot of the same beliefs as you bro.

So you know where Im coming from when I say this economy has had a big negitive impact on alot of good people. Lets just hope it gets better...we HAVE TO THINK POSITIVE.

As far as you losing friends in Iraq.... Hopefully we get out of there soon so no more young men and women lose their lives over there. We need to be out of there in my opinion!!! Hopefully Obama thinks the same. The problem is WAR is big business so Im not sure they are going anywhere anytime soon. And I have family there as we speak.
Now as far as donating the organs of your "hot body"......maybe when you finally decide to take a dirt nap there will be a midget in need of a new ding ding.....you would fit the bill Im sure!!!

See ya next week turbo!!! Crank the air on when you get to the house in Havasu so its nice and cool when Barry and I arrive around 8pm weds.

I am not quite as angry about as you, but I do agree with your points, and am VERY worried that this country will turn into a socialized country, which would put EVERYTHING that ALL AMERICANS have worked for since the Revolutionary War right in the Shitter.

Just a queston from one of the people who put up the $700 billion to "bail out" the financial institutions. How come government/taxpayer money to help out the wealthy isn't socialism, and the same money to help out the people who stand to lose their homes is socialism?

Those financial institutions are an important part of the us economy. If they are not bailed out no money can be lent out for homes, cars what ever. Those institutions were greedy and the home buyers were naive. Bailing these firms out is not Socialism because they are not individual citizens they are business entities (sp?). Now spreading the wealth by taking from some and giving to others is Socialist because it is spread across a collective group of individuals. I don't like this idealogy. Not communist but bordering very close to a Socialist state. I think that Obama is an intelligent man I hope he can do something positive. I guess we'll see.

SUCKERS???

Post by TEAMDEADMONEY »

SUCKERS are you guys crying that Obama is such a bad president when he hasnt even taken control of this country for 1 day yet.

Its pathetic that you people care more about beating the guy down instead of having hope for the future.
Dont know if you noticed or not but this country is the closest its been to a depression since the 20's.
People are losing jobs left and right, the housing market is in COMPLETE shambles, the banking industry is on the verge of collapse, we are fighting 2 wars overseas, our social security is going bye bye, and our parents and grandparents medical is costing them more and more to where they have to pick and choose what medications they can afford. BEAUTIFUL!!!

You crack heads think that Bush did such a good job..... Take the blinders off and crawl out of Bushes A.S.S for a second and take a look around. Things are a mess. Is everything his fault..of coarse not.. BUT ALOT of it IS and the rebuilding needs to start at the top with him.
But yet you "suckers" rather sit on your asses and say "hopefully the company I work for will be able to continue to do business"....Again take a look around......our friggen unemployment rate is higher then its been in over 14-15 years and companies are being FORCED to down size, close up shop, or move their companies overseas ALL accross this nation. Hundreds of thousands of people have ALREADY lost their jobs and thousands of companies have ALREADY had to close down. You guys should feel fortunate that it hasnt reached you yet. Lose your hollier then thou attitudes and give the new guy a chance.
Also ask your parents and grand parents who worked their whole lives if they feel Bush helped them.. The answers you get will be a resounding NO!!! In fact tons of people have lost everything..their retirements, savings, and homes. Sheeesh!!
I can see if we were thriving as a nation, BUT WE ARE NOT! If Obama comes through and helps with half of the things he claims to want to fix, we will be in a better place.
Did you knuckleheads know that MCcain now supports ALOT of the Bush policies that he used to oppose? Probably not...you guys are too far up his *** to see it.
McCain has flip flopped on more things then you "suckers" can possibly fathom. Bush tax cuts for the wealthy, border policies, financial regulation, water boarding, Pursueing Al Qaeda(He balked when Obama said he wanted to track down and KILL Al Qaeda then he didnt say a word when Bush said he wanted to invade Pakistani territory to pursue Al Qaeda) hence the flip flop..
The list goes on and on, but yet you "Suckers" care more trying to deface a man who wants things to be better for the nation as a whole, not just the wealthy.

I personally have stated that time will tell if Obama will help this country. I personally hope he does...BECAUSE WE NEED IT!!

But for you guys to come on here and say without a doubt that he will not help without giving him a chance is hogwash. And for you guys to come on here and call us "suckers" just because we support a guy that gives us affected by the current conditions hope and promises change, is completely elitest...

To some of you guys... we (the guys who want to give Obama a chance at helping better this country) are just suckers. When the real "suckers" are you guys for NOT seeing what Bush and his administration has done to you, me, our parents, grand parents and the rest of this country. Its unbeleivable how blind some people can be...

We, that support Obama, just want things to get better and we have hope so we are backing the guy who is swearing to the heavens that he will help us.. Shame on us for wanting things to get better!! But yet we are the "suckers" in some of your elitest eyes.. Classic..... actually....SAD!
