Watch Yourself Out There Now !!

Post by DeltaDan »

Durring the CL ABA .... I was sitting in the middle seat of the boat (To hug BrothA Coocie) and a lame arse duck turned and smacked off of the driver windshield ! I have no idea how it missed me .... but I had some shat on my shirt. Thankfully going 70 mph it was the only thing as that duck could of killed me as I was "unprotected" and a sitting near incident.... with good results for me and my family.

Then last week DeltaLuke was sitting in the middle as BrothA Bifferz was in the side saddle .... We went slow working through a pile of a mixed bag ~ and then clear.

Suddenly one wayward Ringneck that was crossing our bow with 3 others turned a nosedive between the center of the boat for no reason at all !!

It crushed DeltaLuke's windpipe preaty dayum good ~~ He chokes and spit/hacked up preaty good as well for some time ..... And thankfully were were ~~ as most times ~ just crusin' along at 3200 rpm's. When we got home the first thing he showed DeltaKris was the bruised neck and shat on his shirt with a Big Grin.

That duck-shat on his shirt for an Inaugural moment.

But BEWARE of the ducks and masses of coots out there now ! It used to be fun watching them dive if front of your boat...

Give 'dem Fowls the right-a-way always .... Or they can really really hurt you !
You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

Hey Guys,
I’ve had many episodes with birds but they don’t seem quite as funny as you guys telling the story.

Have fun and be careful guys.

Give them a wide berth and you shouldn't have to worry. I've read and heard of similar stories, but why would anyone run straight into a flock of birds? I see a lot of guys running and have plenty of room to move, but won't?

Glad to hear your boys going to be alright.

If you don't mind I will tell you this story about Coots! I went out in Nov. a few years ago with Alan Fong from the Fishermans Wherehouse and Bill (Don't remember his last name). Alan was using his hand held GPS to navigate because of the Fog. We went all over the Potatoe, Franks and ended up near Mildred Island. Alan has a sarcastic sense of Humor and will display when you least expect it. We came up in the entrance of Mildred and he noticed a flock of Coots about 150 yards in front of us. He got the bright idea to run right through them. I didn't think anything about it. Bill was at my left I was in the middle and Alan was driving the Boat (Ranger). He gunned the engine and in no time we were on those nasty *** Coots. All of a sudden all hell broke lose and those Birds were flying every way possible and some didn't decide to move until we were right on top of them. Those nasty *** Birds started Pooping all over the place and not one drop hit Bill or Alan, it all hit me. I had Goggles on and the **** was all over my Goggles and my Vest. I looked like one of tghe 3 Stooges after a Pie fight only this crap was not Pie. Alan finally let up on the throttle and took one look at me and for the next 20 minutes Bill and Alan laughed until they almost started crying. I was pissed, trying to clean off all that **** and stunk for the rest of the day. The only plus to the day was Alan putting us on fish and we nailed Stripers and Black Bass until it was time to go home. Alan and Bill still remind me of that day when they want a laugh. Those Coots are one Bird I can't stand and hope I never have another encounter with them. They just seem to be all over the place during the Winter; be careful!!!
Life is short enjoy each and everyday!

Aight, DeltaDan, goin' to have to start callin' you Great White (as in Great White Hunter)!!!

Glad DeltaLuke was OK - that is pretty scary. I've been on a couple of rides where we came upon them and had one change direction and spaz out, hitting the trolling motor or the front of the hull, so I can imaging how easy it would be to get one a little higher and take a direct hit.

DeltaDan,
Glad your boy is OK.

nobody should chase them down on purpose 'cause hitting them at speed can surely do some damage - to you and/or your equipment.

I ran across franks tract 2yrs ago and was taking a friends son out for a day of fishing (his 1st time on a boat). well, i always slow down and try to give them plenty of room to maneuver, but when they go crazy and turn the wrong way at the last second, there just isnt anything you can do.

One hit my trolling motor, and WHAM ........... blood, feathers and a whole lot of crap went everywhere. Realizing what just happened i stupidly shut down the big motor and headed up to the front to assess the damage.

Wiping down the blood from the windshield and pushing all the feathers off the deck was bad enough. looking at the boy who was frightened by the experience wasnt good either. His mom was not going to be pleased to hear about this experience. oops! I had to also pry 1/2 a bird from my TM mount up front and toss it over, then realizing that 1 of my TM blades were also gone. Dang it - now i gotta head back to the Hook and get a replacement blade. Jumped back on the big motor only to have the warning light sound off! WTF???

Being stupid and shutting down in the middle of franks caused me to suck up weeds into my intake and it chewed my impeller. I had no water pressure now. UGH!! Our fishing was done for the day.

Hitting a coot can cost you.

1 coot = $35 TM blade + $125 impellar replacement

I stay away from those birds!
