So, I was standing on the button cranked up on 5 to try to catch up with my buddy and fight the current a bit and I loked down at the head of my motorgide 767 Brute (67lb) and I noticed smoke coming out the side of the head. I of course backed off and ran her on lower settings for the rest of the day with no problems. I ran all day today on 1 and 2 with no prob.
Is this normal for Motorguides? Should I only run for short distances on high power or is it time to UPGRADE!!!???
Please let me know your thoughts
Advise on how to explain to my wife that I need a $1000 Minkota would be helpful also.
Thanks

Smokin trolling motors= not good.. best and safest thing to do is take it in to Sunny's Electric Marine or the Trolling Motor Dr. or just replace it with a Minnkota
Ummm.. Honey well umm the other day I was "working" and a "tool" broke ....I need to buy a new "tool" as you know I need the correct tools to do the job at the best of my ability, Throw in an I love you every other sentence, some flowers and heck even a dinner at a nice resturant Red Robin or maybe even Hometown Buffet. If this doesn't work order it and have it shipped to your buddies house, Install it over there and then when she notices it in a few months tell her you have had it for a while because the other one was smokin and you understand that smoke and boats sound the same but they don't go together. You're right it might have been the haze.
I bought them from Tim at Fishermans Whorehouse in Manteca. I think they call them P&E's. I gave them $95 a piece, they've been great so far.
NorCal batteries in Stockton had Interstates for about that much also.

usually what happens is that a splice joining the power wires becomes corroded in some way (water/salt/contaminants) which starts restricting the wires ability to carry current, the restriction becomes hotter over time since it causes the wires to further degrade which further degrades the current capacity, lather rinse repeat till it overheats and smoke comes out.
its pretty straight fwd to pull the top off - about 5 phillips head screws on the underside. once the top is off have a look around to see what's going on, the smoke is coming from an area that is hot so look for heat damage
