Speedometers?
Speedometers?
Why do manufactures continue to waste money by installing speedometers on boats? I have yet to own a boat, or been on someones elses boat, that one works. Yep they say you need to clean out the entrance port and it will work for a few minutes (when it cloggs right back up). I don't understand why they even bother installing them. I think just about everyone now a days uses GPS anyway. What a waste.

Re: Speedometers?
I agree completely. What we need is a simple round speedo that fits the standard dash hole, but is GPS based. There could be a small antenna mounted on top of the dash. It could be digital or analog.

On my boat...back when my boat worked that is, the speedometer worked just fine and was consistant with my hand held GPS unit. A WHOPPING 55MPH!! Not once did I have to clean it out in the 2+ years the motor was working! And Im sure if it was still working the speedometer would work today as well!

DITTO !!

74.6 GPS with a full tank of gas and empty livewells from the blastoff. (in the winter ~ and a light chop to break up the surface tension of the hull)
The speedo on our boat always tends to be 4-5 mph faster than the true GPS. An IPod docking station would be cool in that spot of the dash.

You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

They do, Gaffrig, Loversi, Norscog both in analog and digital. (SP).BrianVieau wrote:I agree completely. What we need is a simple round speedo that fits the standard dash hole, but is GPS based. There could be a small antenna mounted on top of the dash. It could be digital or analog.
I have one in my boat. The antenna is on a ledge under the dash.
If you have a fish finder with GPS you already have a digital speedo built into it.
I don't know enough, to leave well enough alone.
Re: Speedometers?
Horace you dont need any speedometer just a throttle indicator of slow and fast, those are the only 2 speeds you know HA!, you put seat belts in that new rig of yours yet?
Re: Speedometers?
If you have a Lowrance GPS just hit the Exit button a couple times and a speedo pops up on the screen
