Lead free

Post by Ron T. »

Just got my Deer and Bear tags today only to realize the zone is now a lead free zone . What the hell ! I have allways shot the Federal Premium 165 grain in my trusty .06. Any body have any suggestions on an equal " lead free " amo ? I have my hand loaded Weatherby 30.378 with a barns bullet but that gun is just too much for where I hunt deer . Next we will be bow hunting with rubber broadheads .

Yea we had to switch also. We handloaded our 243's with the 85 grain barnes triple shock. My dad killed a pig about 100 lbs at 80 yards. Bullet performed very well entering just behind the last rib and exiting on the opposite front shoulder, I killed a small forky with one shot through the lungs at about 100 yards, he made a big jump and 2 hard lunges the collasped. We are really impressed with this bullet so far. I will need to get a hog around 200 lbs to become a believer.

Turkey man , you may want to stick with the turkey sized pigs with the 243. I have shot many pigs and have seen many lost with solid hits as well . I learned early not to hunt pigs with anything smaller than a .30 caliber bullet . The bigger thay are the harder it is to break one down . Unlike deer . Just my .02.
