Casitas Boating Question
Casitas Boating Question
I havent been to Casitas in about 35 years but would like to go back in February for a few days, camp out in the campground, and take my bass boat and fish. My question concerns the inspection/quarantine situation. Can I take my boat there a couple weeks ahead of time and get it inspected......and, while under quarantine, do they keep it there? Is there a waiting list to get inspected and get in?
Thanks for any help.

Re: Casitas Boating Question
You can get inspected any time and you take your boat home after the inspection.

Re: Casitas Boating Question
After inspection you have a period of 10 days before you can use your boat.(if you pass). ( The inspection is by far the most complete in the state.) You may leave the boat at the lake, but taking it home is probably most common. Please call Ranger Geoff at 805 797.3314. You need an appointment at this time as we have a small staff in the winter. If you have any questions about the lake fisheries, tournaments, etc. be sure to drop me a message. Hope we have nice weather this winter for you.

and with out saying it
make sure its almost showroon clean, if you have a cover keep it on until just before the inspection.
No plant matter at all, you will be done if they find it

And don't forget to blow out your livewell plumbing.

And while you're at it, don't forget to check the rear of your tow vehicle... undercarriage, axle, etc... no vegetation hanging!

Re: Casitas Boating Question
Thanks to all of you who answered.... The information is very helpful and reassuring. I had another thought. I assume when I go there for my first inspection that some type of band will be attached to my boat and trailer to make sure I dont use it elsewhere during the quarantine period? When I go back after the quarantine period to actually fish will I be going thru the same inspection all over again?

Re: Casitas Boating Question
You pay for a cable and lock. They place a tamper-proof tag on the cable, then after 10 days you return and the tag is cut off. Before you leave the lake another tag is secured. The cable goes around your trailer and through your boat's drain hole, or through the engine bracket. Be aware the staff is now increasing inspection of the cables as there are rumors of some who have tampered with them. If caught, you and your boat are banned from the lake for 1 year minimum.
Re: Casitas Boating Question
The cost is $50 for the cable and lock, plus daily entry fee for the boat and vehicle, plus you can't fish the day of inspection.

Re: Casitas Boating Question
YOU guys need the help of GOOD lawyers...........by GOOD..........I mean can spread the misery.
Is Casitas ready to say they accept no state or Federal $$ to maintain the dam, water and fishery??
Lawyering put the bass devastation in perspective @ Silverwood and then some.
