I think that WONs coverage of the OPEN....

Post by Pete Marino »

Has been horrible to this point. Here it is 8:05 pm and the standings still arent posted. Bassfan has an article up but not the whole standings, just the top 5.
I know they are busy with things but come on throw the folks at home a bone already and get those things posted.
Everstart, BASS and FLW all have the results up very soon after a tournament day, while it seems WON is dragging its feet. Lets go guys... :?

Well Pete 1 thing to remember is that there is not just 1 tournament but 2 going on and I am sure a little more paperwork involved. Also I know as well as you that the standings are posted at the hotel much sooner than on the internet. Also Bass fan is covering the tournament so they are able to post a story because they have a freelance writer out there.F.L.W. and Bass have there own writers just doing internet stories.W.O.N. has Bill and George.
They are both writers,George is also photo man,and editor.Bill is also tournament director and also making sure of all other aspects of the tournaments. They have there hands full.Just give them a few and it will be all good.I know you have ants in your pants but slow down a little and it will all be there in time.

Ray quit kissin WONs butt. You have to admit the coverage has been dismal at best. From the snail like pace of posting the results to the tiny article that was written about the days happenings after day 1. Its been a let down. This is supposed to be coverage of the US FREAKIN OPEN, not a small team tournament. AND, this is part of the Western Classic. The article from yesterday was pathetic and lacked any emotion or excitement about the days happenings at what is supposed to be the two biggest tournaments on the West coast and on WONs schedule.
They just need to do a better job, and if that means hiring someone to post the results and write a compelling story of the days events then they need to do it. Your right George and Bill have a ton to do, I understand that, so to relieve presure from those guys and to keep the Anglers friends and families at home happy maybe that is something they should consider for next year.
Hell Ray, you or I would do an awesome job at that. I nominate us for the job. WON should consider it. :D

Did I mention this is the US FREAKIN OPEN

Hey Gary...

Post by Pete Marino »

Perhaps you can keep your stupid comments to yourself and reread my post.

I dont think I'm really trashing them as much as I am stating facts- POOR COVERAGE and SLOW Posting of Results. This tournament has been pimped HARD by WON for the past 3-4 months and I just think they should follow through with the "HYPE". I specifically said that I understood that George and Bill had a ton to do. Thats understandable, but, I'm quite sure they knew it would be like that going into this event so maybe there should have been better planning to produce a product that would live up to the hype in all aspects of the event, including coverage. I dont think I can run a better tournament than WON, I never said that, so for you to come off like that is uncalled for.

That "I AM" a big fan of WON. However I'm not afraid to give criticism when I see something that is not up to par just like I never hesitate to compliment things when things are done well.
If that is too hard for you to understand Gary...well..I'm sorry!

In Defense of Won Bass

Post by Guest »

Pete -
That's your opinion.. and your entitled to it! No arguments from me.

However, I must say this in defense of WON bass...

Truthfully, the people that matter most, are the one's spending the cash to fish the event. Don't get me wrong, everyone matters, but the one's that matter the MOST are the one's who paid the fees.

I am sure Won bass is putting on one heck of a show there.. I don't know, I am not fishing it! Kicking myself for that.. but, none-the-less my boat is there.. and I am here!  So lets assume won bass is doing a great job there and taking care of the angler's correctly. After a weigh in, there are lots of things to handle. Calculations of the weights, Partner Pairings, Broken boats, etc. .etc.. I am sure Won bass is hard at work taking care of these issues.. some of which are unforseen! The postings, as they should be, the last item on their list.

Now they are getting the results up, maybe not as fast as you and I would like to see them.. but, they are being posted same day (From Calville that can't be too easy, although Randy and the gang at Calville are great with us Tournament Organizations and helping out with Inet access etc.) I would love to read more about what's going on out there as well, however, the angler's are pretty tight lipped right now with all that cash on the line. It wouldn't be all that interesting to read a list of the standings in paragraph format. Any more information than that, might effect the angler's!! So I have to agree with what Won is doing in regards to that.

I am sure we will get our fill of information starting tomorrow night! Won bass has no lack of ability to spread the happenings around. Heck just Ron C, can keep you informed of half of what's going on across the world... He is our own personal Bass Fishing CNN (Who needs bass center when we've got Ron) Note: that IS a compliment Ron!

So Pete, I empathize with yah... but, I have to say, Won is probably doing the best job I can imagine giving the circumstances. Not that I am all knowing or anything, just my pidley .02 and we can re-evaluate their coverage later this week!!

PS - Doing the weigh-ins for 2 tournaments in 1 plus changing co-angler's on a daily basis with shared weights is not easy! I have a degree in computer science and Mathematics and it takes me a little bit to get it done! Anyone who has ever fished my events will attest I am rapid fire on results.... but, with this kind of format it's considerably more time consuming. Not to mention double checking all the results before blasting them worldwide is probably a good idea and I am sure they are doing that too!

Tom,

You made a bunch of valid points, and, opened my eyes to a few things that I was failing to see. That being said I still think they should beef up the staff for their two biggest tournaments of the year. Bills head is probably spinning right now from all the questions and things hes dealing with trying to run two events together. Added staff would free him up some and improve the quality of the product all around.

PS hearing things about Mead is making me anxious to get there in a couple weeks for the ABA fishoff. Hopefully Mead is kind to us. :) Its gonna be fun.

You are right..
Added staff couldn't hurt... Problem with that is, everyone wants to fish not work! :)

As for Mead, I know of one bait that is catching fish... I will PM it to you.. It worked at the Classic, and I know its catching fish this week too! Not sure if it will continue to work, because it is top-water, but never know. Better to have it and not need it.. then to need it and not have it! ha ha ha...

Very well put Tom.

I have worked a few 175+ boat EverStarts back East and getting the ACCURATE information quickly to the public isn't always as easy as it looks.

We still need to talk.

I send you my number in a PM.

why is there not a story on how arron took the lead, big fish going to rick clunn(so far). so much to tell and no one to tell it. as i posted two days ago, the coverage is horrible. There is no excuse. you either take the job and do it right or cut bait.

Pub is very important! Bassfan.com does an excellant job at getting the word out with the stories but WON BASS could help by getting the weights out quicker so Bassfan could post what they know. They will hold the stories for a while so they could show the results with them. And yes that little few words called a story was classic. Even better on day two. My pick? Day two! BTW Ray, I thought george was a writer for WON BASS? He's at the tournament being payed by WON BASS? No story daily but just picts and stories to be played out till next year and forever. I'll take a pass, please.

You are so right dude. In this day and age, with technology and all - you would think that a few hours later, after weigh in and everything has been tabulated, that they would put it online. I think what it comes down to is the computer savy people and those of us who utilize the internet are a minority. That is the only thing that I can think of. Now if they would clean up their site and get someone to post things for them, that would be nice.

I suppose I'm just not so sure why everyone HAS to know the results so fast. It's a major event, true enough. They owe it the their anglers to deal with them first and foremost. We'll get the info soon enough. My suggestion, spend some quality time with your families or your tackle boxes and wake up in the morning to get full results.

That's what I intend to do.
