Sol, Stradic, or Sustain?

Post by TonkaKid »

Looking to get into a new spinning reel. Will be used for drop shotting and throwing senkos. Will typically be pair with 8-10 flurocarbon. Looking at the 2500 size I believe. What would you get, size, and why? Thanks.

I would consider the SOL or the Fuego spinning. I have both and they are awesome reels. I also have a Shimano Sustain 3000FE and the bail already came loose on it. The Fuego is really the biz.

The Sustain hands down. I have 3 and they work awesome never had a problem with them. I have a few stradics as well, but the Sustain is where its at. I dont own any Stella;s but i get to fish with a few and thats the best hands down. Next in line is the sustain. My partner/unc caught the old lake record at DVL 14.85 on a Sustain 1000 and 6lb no problem. Such a sweet drag system, every shooting dive the fish did was handled easily by this reel. I highly suggest it.

I have the sustain 1000-fd and 2500-fd, both are very good reels have not had any problems with them. I think they need a size in between the 1000 and 2500. The 2500 is a little big and don't like the t-shaped knob. I can see they were trying to cover a wider range of fishing styles, like light salt water. The spool capacity and size is overkill for bass fishing stuff. Maybe I'm a picky basstid. Been a loyal Shimano guy. If I could think of the perfect drop reel it would be the older Stella 1000-f. I have no idea why they changed this model. Since I'm a un-sponsored scrub, I want the best regardless of brand and recently bought a Certate 2000. Best quality spinning reel ever. If you try one you will see what I mean

Fuego is now lighter than before with corrosion resistant bearings. And sports the new tech "Zion" composit frames....a full 1oz. lighter than last years magnesium framed Fuego, can fish fresh , brackish , or salt with it now. I own a Sustain 1000 and it's killer too but the best spinning reel for the $?......TD Advantage....period!

I'd get the sustain first, but if I didn't have a good rod for it I'd get a stradic and take the cash saved and put it towards a nice GLX
yeah thats right

Sustain is best among those three options.
If you could afford more, stella would be the best choice.
2000 size are just right for dropshotting.
I have pulled out 13.5lb largemouth with 6lb test on 2000 stella AR.
I went from lower grade shimanos to stradic to sustain to stella to certate and ended up with 4 stellas.
I sold certate away.
Bottom line, Stella is the best and if not sustain comes close in my opinion.
Good luck.
