Swimbait question on ROF

I have been using Swimbaits but mostly wake type baits. When you get a ROF of say 5 it means 5 Ft rate of fall to what? 1 second? 1 minute? Or some other amount of time?

When they say â€œSlow Sinker: 5-10 FTâ€

ROF 5 = 5 feet per 10 seconds

when they say slow sink 5 to 10 ft there basically saying that they reccomend the bait to be fished ni 5 to 10, its a sinking bait so you can fish it at any depth you want, but it will be far more effective at this depth.
The rof has alot to do with the speed of the bait as well, if your fishing a rof 12 bait your gonna have to reel it alot faster to fish it in depth of 5 to 10 ft, an rof 5 allows you to slow down and enables you to slowly fish the bait in 5 to 10 ft of water.

Bear in mind, you can burn an ROF 12 near the surface and it won't roll, because of the increased weight. And you can drag it on the bottom, letting it dig and stick and hop.
There are a lot of ways to fish swimbaits. Don't get trapped into thinking they have to be fished one way or another.
To quote Bill Siemental, "they are tools". You can use a paint can opener to clean out grout, and use a claw hammer to open a beer bottle.
Just depends on how far your imagination lets you go.

Different companies use ROF differently. For example Huddleston Deluxe their ROF usage is that number by 10 seconds. In other words, a ROF 10 should be raight at or around 10ft in 10seconds and ROD is at 16ft in 10 seconds ect. ect. Where as some other compaine such as ABT Lure Co. they have a ROF1 which really is just in one second it sinks one foot.

So it kinda depends on what company you are useing. I would recogmend reading the cover or back side of the packages before you buy it or after you buy it to see how that particular company rates their ROF's. I hope this helps!
