Best frog?
Best frog?
I have been fishing Bobby's Perfect frog and am not all that impressed with it. I find it does not always stay upright as it should. I am very impressed with the Sumo frogs because it is heavier, casts farther and better hooking percentage.
I have fished the Snagproof Line and find them all about the same. Any other frogs that I should be checking out?

Guiding all summer Frogg'in and such. I highly recommed you stay away from the Swamp Donkey. Their quality Control S@##$K.
I had major problems with them
I stayed with Bobby B's Perfect frog, but in one color only. Its the one with the white belly/Green Back. Change out the hooks and thats it.
Today they just looked at it. Caught them on Buzzbaits all day or a Senko.

Re: Best frog?
Can I ask what you mean by not staying upright? Do you mean 'belly-side down"? I have had every brand of frog I've ever fished land upside down at least once - of course only when it lands on some kind of crud. Usually the first pop or two will turn it over! My thoughts are that the fish is mostly seeing profile, not necessarily colors when you are fishing over mats and thick weeds. I don't think upside down/right side up makes a difference in those conditions. But that's just my $0.02
Sumo frogs are good, as are Snag Proof and the Swamp Donkey. I think it's more in the presentation than in the brand, each one performs in a slightly different way and you need to learn how to make each one work to your benefit. Some folks prefer the Original frog and do modifications to it to make it similar to the Perfect frog. Might want to try that. If you like more weight, that's easy to add to the Original or Perfect Frog. Add a BB, shot, rattle, bell or a small pebble from the bank! It's all good, just make what you have work for you instead of spending a ton on different frogs. Of course if you want to throw out any of your Snag Proofs, I'll pay shipping

Re: Best frog?
What do you guys think about the Kanji frogs? Is there anything else from Japan? In terms of 'staying upright' I am referring to staying on its belly. I am going to load up my frog with rattles though. I would love the Sumo frogs if the plastic was a touch softer although I have a really good hook-up ratio with them.
I saw a really neat Barrack video on NCBF about frogs. I am fishing 80lb P-Pro for Frogs. Is that too heavy? As well, any rod models you would recommend? I am currently using a flipping stick but find the handle to long.

Re: Best frog?
Any frog, etc will land belly up at times. But day in and day out you will never go wrong fishing Snag proof frogs/wiggle wogs.

Re: Best frog?
Hello, I am Hideki Maeda from Japan. This is my first time to join the forums. I am looking forward to talking with many western anglers here. I am very proud many American anglers like SUMO FROG I designed couple years ago. I was so impressed with frog game in the Delta, and I tried to make better frog in the market soon. But unfortunately I have found some faults of SUMO FROG later. For example, the body is too wide, so points of hook often comes into the body, and I have missed many fish because of this problem. The nose is easy to tear after setting hook, and then becomes easy to sink. At first, I thought sharper hook was better, but the hook was too sharp to set hardly with strong braid line. So the hook point sometimes chips and bends easily even after catching one. Andre gave me a chance to make improving new frog, which is SWAMP DONKEY. We have made some proto types and have tested it for 3 years to start selling with some good fishermen. SWAMP DONKEY solves these faults of SUMO FROG. And it walks more easily on open water. If you have never tried it yet, and you like SUMO FROG, you should try SWAMP DONKEY once. You will be satisfied with it. I am sure SWAMP DONKEY is best now.

Welcome to the WesternBass.com Forums.
I thought I saw some similarities between the Sumo and the Swamp Donkey. By the way, the bite to hook up ratio is still better for me with the original Sumo Frog. The Sumo may get tore up easier, and yes the hooks do get stuck in the sides on occasion, but I get more fish in the boat. I had a fish at Clear Lake turn the from inside out...the frog has since been retired.

If you can hold out for a couple more weeks the Dean Rojas Frog that was designed by Dean himself will be available at Bass Pro and ANglers Resource. I have had the privledge of fishing with one of the designers of this frog and it's an excellent design. Dean also liked the Sumo Frog as well but he improved on that design with his new signature frog from Spro.

Re: Best frog?
I bought one at closeout and don't recommend it. The Kanji doesn't have a good seal where the weight is located so it lets water in faster than most other frogs...edge wrote:What do you guys think about the Kanji frogs?
