New In San Francisco

Post by senkoskipper »

Hi people. Just moved to San Francisco from Minnesota. I mainly fish Bass. Now that i have moved out to here tho, it seems its kind of hard to go fishing. And i dont know where to start. Seems salt water fishing is the thing out here but all i got is bass rods. Also if anyone is looking for a fishing partner, i can be that guy!!

Senko,

I live in SF. I'm a float tuber but if you're interested in heading out to the Delta or Marin sometime shoot me a PM.

Thanks for the welcome. Can you guys tell me what kind of fish is in this delta? My fishing gear is based on bass fishing so i dont want to be catching anything HUGE since my gear isnt cut out for it. Also whats the structure like on the delta? Is it a lot of rocks and drop offs or is it weedy? In Minnesota about 90% of the lakes are fully of weeds and that was my bread and butter. Would i have to change my style/technique on these california waters?

Hydrilla galore, and lots of tules (bull rushes) everywhere. Docks, rocks almost everything. Very shallow, river system with tidal influence. Probably one of the best, most challenging, fun places I have ever fished period. You can usually always catch fish. As far as gear the standard is heavy rods, heavy line and just about any technique you can think of. Flipping, Crankin, swimbaits etc...you name it.

Primarily Stripers and Florida-strain Largemouth, some can go into the mid- to upper teens in weight. If you have never caught a double-digit bass, this is the place to do it (along with Clear Lake)
Some areas also have a population of smallmouth too
